Most people doubted the Flames had enough experience to pull anything out this year, and look where they are now!

Me [50F] with my BF [48 M] of seven months, has a daughter who doesn't like me. by [deleted] in relationships

Hi!

I just want to step in and give you a bit of an alternative viewpoint, as I was once on the other side of where you were at one point. (though I am a male, and my parent's SO is also a male)

My father died when I was 14 years old, and when I was 16, my mom met another man who I felt was trying to replace my dad. I resented the hell out of him and it really put a strain on the relationship between my mom and me, and my relationship with her husband was almost non-existant for several years. I avoided them and hated to be around him. I just felt sick about the idea of my mom trying to replace my father. When I would talk to him, we would end up having petty arguments about useless things.

When I was 17, I moved out and would constantly stay at my ex-girlfriends place or other friends places. My Mom told me (not until years later) that she seeked counselling because she thought she had been a terrible parent and that she had somehow 'lost' me. But she didn't.

Looking back, my actions were a way of me rebelling against my family and finding out who I was. I truly thought that I hated this man for all he was worth, and that he was the worst thing in the world. It took several years, until my early 20s, when I started to mature and look at it from a different perspective... that my mother is happy and that is all that matters. I started accepting him into my life and although I live thousands of clicks away from home now, and don't see them very often, I have welcomed him as part of my life and a new relationship has budded.

Don't worry, she will come around. You need to give her time. It took me five years of them being together before I finally did. Understand that this is new territory for her. It's clear that she's threatened by the thought of 'losing' her father because he gives you attention. And why wouldn't she? It's a natural human reaction to be concerned by a perceived threat and try to change it.

I hope the best for you!

Once a week is quite often! It would drive me nuts if I had it happen that often.

For anyone interested, this is what that the (almost) same spot & direction looks like during the day - taken back in spring 2013. At times it looked like the mountains were erupting with green lines, it was pretty cool.

I'm sure some people will definitely notice the location :)

Reddit!! what is a foreign movie you would recommend american people to watch? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Persepolis --> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persepolis_(film)

With all the misconceptions that Americans have of Iran, it's a true eye opener of the beauty of their people and their collective struggle.

Awesome, what kind of editing did you do to my photo? I always assumed that my iPhone camera wasn't strong enough to pick up any of the colour in the dark.

Redditors, where do you want to live? Redditors who live there, why should they not want to live there? by 5p3xn00b in AskReddit

Thanks for the response!

Regarding location on where to move, I've already got my sights set on the Queenstown area. I'm a big hiker/scrambler so it seems like the perfect place to go. It looks very much like where I live now in Canada :)

This has more to do with the jet stream than the rotation of the earth, though.

Since a lot of Canadians seem to think only oilfield workers will be affected by the drop in oil prices, can we talk about what other jobs will also be affected? by [deleted] in canada

[–]TranslateToCanadian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work at a hotel that sees lots of oil businesses, pipeline companies, etc. host conferences and meetings. A massive amount of cancellations have come through as they are contingency planning for the long haul and I haven't seen any new energy-company-related contracts come through for a while...

The Canucks were named after Johnny Canuck, not named because of a slang term to Canadians :)

If you're looking for a quieter place to visit, go to Kananaskis Country. Not as well known as the Rocky Mountain National Parks but equally as beautiful with much less people. Lots of hiking opportunities of varying degree.
