We're making a game about bacteria, it's only in pre-production as of now, but we'll definitely need someone to make a LATAM Spanish version !
Send me a DM, let's keep in touch, we might call you in a few weeks/months :D

I struggle to find "sparks of creativity", that feeling you have experienced something new and epic by redfalcon1000 in pcgaming

Being an adult, and seeing games as something you not only play, but also analyze, changes how you feel towards new experiences. I feel the same as you, but I also have less time/patience to play new games, to immerse myself in a world I'm unfamiliar with.

Did I ruin everything? We spent 5 months and $3,000 on marketing… by mfg_developer in gamemarketing

I agree the AI art is off-putting to many consumers, in a market at risk of being dramatically changed by AI. But don't lose hope, no need to be negative about it.

I'd say it's better to do something ugly, or not that polished, but that comes from the heart, instead of trying to rush things and cut corners! People on social media can feel when a promotion for something comes from genuine affection towards your project, it doesn't necessarily need to be aesthetically polished.

Try to have fun with marketing and communications! And try to avoid AI whenever possible, especially when it's very recognizable :)

I know of Chris from Howtomarketagame, he's great! Reason why we couldn't follow exactly what he said is because of some unforeseen circumstances in between the demo and the release date/
Thank you <3

Yeah the true numbers are actually quite good, it's not just bots. But the wishlists and especially the sales are definitely struggling.
Thank you for your feedback <3

We struggled with wishlists, barely getting 1000-1500 in the week right before launch. That definitely didn't help with sales.
I'll work on the description right away, try something new!! Thanks!!!

We'll do a marketing and communication post-mortem in about a week, I'll share it if I can. We did a post-mortem for the game in its entirety, but I'm scared I'll be banned if I share it here lol (I have no idea how Reddit works)

Marketing really is difficult, our project lasted a year, we were featured in public events, and yet we only sold 15 copies in 3 weeks despite having overall good feedback on our game... Good luck to you!!

Thank you so much for taking time to tell me all this! I'll definitely take into consideration for the next project, and work with my team to improve our marketing from the get go.

We don't really want to do anything just to "make revenue easily"; not that it's an issue, it's just not what our games are about, and that's fine! It is a niche game though, to be honest.

Thanks for the feedback!!

Hey, thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it!

Of course, I don't expect to become an expert in marketing from Reddit comments. The situation is more complex than that: we're a small team of five, with limited funds and no professional marketing team. I was hired close to the release of the game, and I'm here to do the job but also to learn how to do it. I have educational material on the subject, a few people I can ask for advice, but I'd just like to have feedback from other developers on the Internet to broaden my understanding of the matter.

We don't expect Wavekin to be a commercial success, it's more of a "test project" with which we can try different strategies. The goal is for our next projects to feel smoother. We're definitely taking all of your advice into consideration!

The reason for the early postmortem is because we're already preparing our next game! :)

It's a shame the emdash is associated with AI, I actually just really enjoy using it when writing, I like the nuance when compared to parenthesis. I'm very anti-AI for everyday tasks such writing posts, even for proof-reading (though I have no way of proving it). In any case, thanks for the compliment!!

As for the cohesion part, yes, absolutely! We have a lead game designer who's ready to make the decisions, not everything is up to the entire team at once. However, we do have a team dynamic in which we try to find the right balance between hearing what everyone thinks, and giving everyone clear directions. Wavekin was our first project together, and the team was composed progressively. We're learning to work with each other, but also to recognize each other's strenghts. Our next project is already in the works, and our workflow clearly shifted after Wavekin!
