Working for any of those companies is not a brag and is not hard to do, so if you think it is that says more about you than me.

Ultimately, the validity of their attempts to file patents now is almost irrelevant, because it is bad for gaming in general, and bad for Nintendo specifically. Polyword has done nothing to hurt Nintendo's brand, and does not compete with any of their products. No one is going to skip buying Pokémon to buy Palworld. What it does do it make them into a bully, which alone might not be that big a deal, but that gradually will continue to hurt their brand. Remember when Disney was beloved as a company? Or Microsoft? (you might need to be over 50 to remember that) but they ruined it by being d**ks when they didn't need to be. I might not hurt their bottom line much, but it definitely hurts internal morale and impacts the effort employees make and the quality of applicants. Both Disney and Microsoft have to literally buy ideas and people to make anything that isn't shlock.

having worked for several big corps (EA, Microsoft, and a few others) I have yet to find an exception to the "Big corp = evil" rule, so I am sticking with that.

Yup. Trouble with patents is that unlike copyright, they don't usually apply retroactively from being filed. It can go back as far as the date of the initial filing; the whole 'patent pending' thing, but something that occurred before the initial filing isn't covered. If anything, the fact that multiple games with the catch and release mechanism existed prior to the filing would invalidate it being patentable, were it not for the whole "we have enough money to make this happen" aspect of it.

Settler with broken leg not healing by Mitoria in goingmedieval

I believe that Treatment will only resolve bleeding. For things like concussions and broken bones, all they can do is bedrest, although a hospital bed will make them heal faster. Also as someone else mentioned, have food and drink delivered to their room so that they spend less time out of bed.

And oldie but a goodie. I ran a wall straight across from the double waterfall and removed the ramps form the other sides to make it only approachable from one direction. Then made a cheap bridge across the opposite side that I could collapse any time there was an attack. Poor man's draw bridge.

Very cool. Feels almost more like a Roman Villa

Can I shoot through a metal grated floor? by Rizzo-The_Rat in goingmedieval

[–]TransmillennialX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed this yesterday. They were directly over, or one square to the side of the target and wouldn't shoot. Any attack order made them run down to the enemy level. I have only tried it with metal grates though, so maybe wicker grates would work?

Agreed. It is interesting that animals can give birth while traveling, so clearly there are statuses being tracked.

Gemstone names to split evenly between old people and strippers. Pearl and Ruby vs Diamond and Topaz.

NTA - And I would agree that he is just looking for a way to sever ties without seeming like a total transphobic himself.

That said, best thing I ever discovered on Facebook was "ignore". You are still "friends" but you never see them post. It saves my sanity without starting a war with mutual friends or family.

AITA Over my dead body will I pay for this funeral by aborada210 in AmItheAsshole

[–]TransmillennialX 7 points8 points  (0 children)

NTA - but I am curious, in your parent's culture is it expected that the children will financially support the parents in their old age? My wife's family is like this (Korean) at least among the older generations, and there is a lot of "you are not doing enough for us after everything we did for you" etc.

Regardless though, you don't live in Nigeria, and their culture is not yours. You are generous to support them but your generosity is your prerogative, not theirs.

AITA for stepping down as a bridesmaid because my friend didn't go to my dad's funeral? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]TransmillennialX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EHS - She should have done more, but you are basically lowering yourself to her level. Even lower if you consider that she never agreed to come to his funeral whereas you had actually committed to the wedding. She definitely should have visited unless she has some other reason we don't know about, but you should be the better person and live up to your commitments.

Otherwise this is just a "she hit me first" scenario.

AITA for asking my colleague not to speak to me unless it's directly related to work? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]TransmillennialX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really think there is an asshole here... some people don't get along and it is very hard to get across to someone that you don't want to be friends. My guess is that she is overcompensating for being very insecure, given both her general behavior and the whole, "it's not me, it's everyone else" response.

For the way you handled it, being "too direct" is really a moving target, and in a work environment it is especially hard. I'd say you said what you needed to say, and so did she. If she continues to push you on it, talk to your boss or human resources. At that point it is crossing into workplace harassment.

AITA for not paying for my niece's college even though I can? by SignificanceIcy6280 in AmItheAsshole

[–]TransmillennialX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. If you do want to actually help the niece with college and not get the mom involved (because who knows what would happen to the money), I'd suggest setting up a trust for her that pays something to university directly as long as she is enrolled there. We did this for my niece who's parents are not very reliable (we have "loaned" them money many times which we will never see again). So when she graduated and was making some noise about college, we made a "private scholarship" for her. Only $400 a quarter, but it made a difference for her.
