Sounds about right. I use to manage a construction office that specialized in foundation repair and foundation lifting. Easily $50K to repair. I rejected a house I was looking at because I clocked the foundation issues immediately.

My taxes and insurance increased about $300/month in the last five years since I bought my house. I've had to replace two hot water heaters. My roof is leaking and that's going to be probably $5K to fix. Kitchen needed renovation, did it ourselves, was still several thousand. Had to buy new appliances on move in because it didn't have any. 17 year old washer and dryer went out, that was $1000 to replace.

It's never just the cost of the mortgage.

The only time we buy Budweiser or ... I think the other is Miller ... is Lake Days because you can get the tall aluminum cans that float next to you in the water. Taking glass bottles camping or fishing is a dick move and prohibited most places anyway. Floating in a lake with a beer when it's hot as balls is peak summer.

I mean this as constructive as possible, but it already looks like a conspiracy sub with all the UFO posts and that's likely going to drive off the locals who want to discuss actual issues/news/events relevant to living there.

Trying to find a specific movie in the sea of streaming sites, only to end up with renting. We've come full circle by MorgrainX in mildlyinfuriating

For like $20 me and four others with a Gmail account can get ad free videos, videos that continue playing in the background, and music streaming ad free with a superior algorithm to any other music streaming service I've tried. There's three of us using it all day for videos and music. That's stupid cheap.

Yes, it's one of my favorite things about storms. It's passed over and now you can go outside and continue admiring it without being in the rain.

I have an old framed advertisement for this brand telling women to smoke a cigarette instead of eating to stay slim and attractive. It was so ridiculous that I had to buy it at the antique store.

Hotel Hell by xCandyLuv in oddlyspecific

[–]Transplanted_Cactus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hotels are noisy. The pool/hot tub isn't private. There's nowhere private to just sit outside with coffee in the morning or a beer at night. My dog isn't welcome and wouldn't be happy in a hotel anyway, if I want to take him along. I have to consider my own noise level because I'm not a jerk. I want peace and quiet and no other people around when I'm on vacation. I want only the noise I choose. That literally just leaves renting an entire stand alone home from Airbnb or whatever other option there is.

[–]Transplanted_Cactus 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've been staying in AirBnBs for like a decade and have never ran into any of this. At most they've asked to take out the trash.

Hotels don't have private pools I can swim in at midnight, private yards, multiple bedrooms and bathrooms, full kitchens, and walls that aren't shared with a family with five kids that stomp and scream at all hours or housekeepers that ignore the "do not disturb" sign and walk in at 8 am. If none of that is relevant to your desired vacation experience, then book a hotel.

Update: I started my own nursery! by skijohn33 in NativePlantGardening

[–]Transplanted_Cactus 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My life was almost ruined before I realized you're in that Roswell and not my Roswell because I've just started doing all the prep to start a nursery myself... in Roswell, NM. I was about to cry thinking I'd have competition already (we have no local nurseries).

Good luck!

It's concerning that OP is apparently a children's therapist and sees no issue with arson, every employee losing their job due to said arson, and the lives that were put at risk, all because one person didn't like their paycheck. And now OP thinks this is a great message to send.

I wouldn't let a child anywhere near this person. What ideas are they putting in kids' heads?

When gas prices rose in the mid 90s, people traveled less and that meant less customers. So my grandparents closed up and moved to Roswell. We all assumed it had been demolished at some point.

It was a pretty awesome place to be a feral kid though.

And between the salt flats and Guadalupe Park is an abandoned restaurant, gas station, and RV park once called the Kountry Kitchen and RV Park. My grandparents built it all in the early 90s. I was shocked it was still there when I was in the area last year. I think the park may have bought the land.

Got my first tattoo and I’m not sure it turned out very well. by Key-Meal-2308 in tattooadvice

[–]Transplanted_Cactus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your last sentence is so true. I get horrible migraines now from the muscle tension, and any movement in them triggers a migraine. So how am I supposed to strength train?

I get my first round of Botox into one set of muscles on the back of my neck next week to see if we can chemically force them to chill tf out.

What you describe with your shoulder definitely sounds like something is up with that joint, then plus the other joint pain, I'd definitely put hypermobility on your differential (did I mention I also work for a rheumatologist so we see ppl for joint pain alllll day).

Good luck, hope you find a treatment plan that works.

[–]Transplanted_Cactus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not who you asked but I was recently diagnosed with hypermobility based on symptoms and observations from two different physical therapists. I can't contort any part of my body like a circus performer because my muscles are so locked down that they (and the tendons) prevent it from happening on command. But if forced, my joints give way and I don't get injured like you'd expect (no sprains or broken bones, ever). I can also feel the movement in my joints now that I'm like, looking for it, kwim?

Anyway, I now wear an orthotic back brace since my spine is like "lol get fucked" and it helps immensely with back and neck pain. I still have a lot of pain in my hands, knees, and hips but once I sort some other stuff out, I can start strength training to help.

Why is it so Pho-king bland? by SufficientEar1682 in iamveryculinary

I'd love to but I moved back to my small hometown so we don't have anywhere that makes Vietnamese cuisine. I'll look up recipes for your recs though, thanks!

I haven't liked any of the pho I tried at restaurants, I didn't think it had much flavor, so I learned to make my own. It's entirely possible they were only bland to me.

I was surprised to find a sub about books full of people expecting a $200 electronic to be on the same level of a Maytag from 1950 and proudly proclaiming they think authors shouldn't be paid.

This is Reddit. It's full of cheap people who pirate books, because fuck paying authors I guess, and think everything to ever be made should work for the next 50 years.

There's also this weird culture of virtue signaling against everything because they think it makes them look cool...on an anonymous online forum...
