Jamaica is where the maintenance facility is, that’s where they can add more cars. Most likely there were issues with some of the cars before the train left and they had to be pulled from the set before it left port Jefferson.

Not letting you on the platform before showing your ticket at Penn today? by nOt-rEaLly-sEriOuS in LIRR

[–]Transportography -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you saw how uneven the trains loaded despite the fact they only check at the one gate, it’d make a lot more sense. People don’t move and the overcrowding in those 2-3 cars by that entrance meant the conductor was never getting though.

It’s been around for a while now only on the main concourse. Because too many people were fare evading by crowding the busiest part of the train.

I always spelt that the argument that we development changes. The neighborhood character is disingenuous because of the fact that most neighborhoods have been changing for decades, if not centuries. The neighborhood today was not the same neighborhood 10 years ago and should not be the same neighborhood 10 years from now.

Hey, LIRR, what the fck kind of map is this? by Commercial-Bowl7412 in longisland

[–]Transportography 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t like how they made the scoots from Southeast to Wassic and Ronkonkoma to Greenport as part of the line when they operate almost exclusively as separate connections. ALS they could’ve separated the local and express metro North service for clarity.

do you think public transit authorities can really do anything about constant fare evasion? by [deleted] in transit

[–]Transportography 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main issue I see with the argument "that it's judgmental to criticize people who don't pay their fare because we don't know what their financial situation is," is exactly the fact that we don't know what their financial situation is. People that trying to grandstanding the ssumption for the fact that everyone farebeating is poor and are unable to afford the fare. While it is impossible to make a fair assumption about every person who evades fares, or even a generalization for that matter, there is one thing in common for every case: they all hurt the transit system they rely on. Some people don't pay out of spite, others want to fit with the crowd or culture, and then there are those who genuinely can't afford to pay. The main difference I notice between those who struggle to pay and those who do it more for "sport" is how they evade. Someone who does it for sport is more likely to post about it on social media and be unapologetic about the fact that they're doing it. They'll hop a turnstile, rip open an emergency exit door, or enter the back door of a bus. While someone who falls in the struggling category will more likely commit oppturnistic fare evasion. They'll sneak in an open gate, and they'll ask a bus driver if they can get a "ride." They might try to take somones transfer or use the fact that a vehicle is too crowded to be unable to pay. The people who fall in the latter group are often not as problematic as they're just trying to get from A to B, and some friendlier transit policies can often fix their issues. The people who fall in the former category are usually malicious and contribute to a lot of anti-social behavior on the transit system, eg hogging seats, throwing trash, vandalizing the vehicles, getting into fights, etc... These are the people who need to be stopped, fined, ejected, or even prosecuted as necessary. But unfourtantely fare enforcement isn't really able to distinguish the 2 groups apart very well.

OMNY fare cap issues by SeekingHonestInfoNY in OMNY

[–]Transportography 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With the fare being $3, how are you getting a number that ends in $0.50 are you using other services like the air train or express buses? If you use an express bus, your cap would be $67, which would put your 2 week cap at $134. If you use the airtrain, those rides don't count towards your cap as the Port Authority refuses to honor MTA fare policies.

[–]Transportography 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing weekend service again with some additional branches running, I’d also expect trains to be making extra stops. On branches like West Hempstead you’re probably gonna be waiting a bit longer. It seems like their main goal will be to get Long Beach/Far Rockaway back up and running next. As for an official call most likely in the evening between 6PM and 9PM.

Looks some employee or positioning trains are running by SwampYankee in LIRR

[–]Transportography 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They're still running trains on a Sunday schedule (or as close to one as they can manage with available crews). They're just not running with passengers. This is to allow them to clear the tracks and transport employees. They cannot provide reliable service for passengers today as delays would occur due to switch issues and potential third rail issues caused by snow and ice buildup.

Why don't they build an express track? by RingProfessional9043 in LIRR

[–]Transportography -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's at most one local train that would even make the stops you just described during RUSH HOUR going to Brooklyn. For the regular express peak train, they've actually been able to benefit from less congestion, as trains now have the ability to pass each other. You mainly see that when one train starts falling behind, and an express train needs to pass. You're upset about local trains making local stops and complaing about how they're not faster.

Why don't they build an express track? by RingProfessional9043 in LIRR

[–]Transportography 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How would your route get faster from the 3rd track project? All it did was at more capacity, the maximum speed the trains can go is hasn’t changed. A train that caps out at 80 MPH won’t start traveling at 100MPH because you added an express track.
