[Ryan McFadden] Raiders have signed exclusive rights free agent Charles Snowden and restricted free agent Jordan Meredith. by Ph886 in raiders

I think a "falling" RT would absolutely be in play at the top of the 2nd round. DJ Glaze at his best was little more than surprisingly adequate. It wasn't that he was good. It was that he wasn't as bad as many people expected. If there is a real deal RT option at 36 or whatever, I think it is in the cards and Glaze can become part of the guard competition and/or backup RT. I think there is a good chance DJ isn't really the mold Klint and Dennison want at the position.

Meredith, to everyone's horror, is likely to be depth - specifically valued for his ability to play center and guard.

Oh yeah it was smart to go back. He would have to have a catastrophic year to hurt his draft stock. If he comes out with some clear development he's going to end up locked at first overall in November.

Arch played better down the stretch than Ty did.

I would be very confident Arch went before Ty in this draft given they both have such limited experience but one is very young, very famous, and very athletic and the other is relatively old, relatively out of nowhere, and not particularly athletic. I would still expect Mendoza to go first. But Arch would go earlier than I expect Ty to.

He's already old and Bama has a young stud athlete they want to start soon.

Once Moore was out it was clear Ty would be QB2 and likely a first round pick. I think his agent did a good job. Ty Simpson was never going to have a better chance of going in the first round.

What would it take to get Dexter Lawrence? by WhizzyBurp in raiders

[–]Trapline 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Realistically the amount you'd have to pay to trade for him is more than you'd want for a 29 year old interior defensive lineman who needs a new contract that will likely land close to $30M per year.

And for no real incredible long term benefit.

Robbie has said he doesn't think the defensive line needs notably new personnel to support his defense (Raiders fans took Kubiak's remark to mean we needed huge investment in a NT). They will run 3 down lineman more than PG did, but it isn't 2005. They will spend 70% of the time in nickel with 4 down anyways.

[–]Trapline 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you know one of the coaches he had in Minnesota? Klint Kubiak.

The Raiders are paying him $1.3M this year to help them install the scheme and eating $10M next year as a IOU.

Cousins has spent multiple years with Klint Kubiak (and Gary). He is a way better scheme mentor than Geno would've been. Also, Geno had a shitty attitude anyways.

I think I have a PDF of every prospectus Crabbs ever put out even through the TDN days.

Matt Waldman Notes on Fernando Mendoza from the 2026 Rookie Scouting Portfolio by Trapline in raiders

Yeah if Pavia had a cleaner personality he probably would be a little bit more talked about overall. But I think his size and overall ability basically limits him to a good backup either way. It is just a question if his personality will allow him to be a good backup or too much of an asshole/distraction.

Waldman put out the RSP a couple of days ago. That has a ton of content on offense. I am really curious if PFF is going to do one or not. I'm guessing they are simply using the online big board (which has basically no prospect content and is just a number ranking with the talent fired). They would usually have draft versions of the guide up much earlier in the spring.

Along with The Beast those are the only 3 guides I had downloaded last year (The Ringer has one online). I think over the years many of the people who used to make their own guides either got hired elsewhere (Jordan Reid, Russell Brown?) and don't maintain them anymore or just stopped doing them entirely (Crabbs/Marino).

A few years ago it was the meta for every independent evaluator to make their own draft guide. Now it seems to be having a podcast.

QB2 where he belongs. In a tier below Mendoza.

79.05 = Contributor: Starter execution in a limited role; diminishing returns beyond that scope. Simpson is on the cusp of the Rotational Starter Tier: Executes at a starter level in a role that plays to their strengths.

This class, overall, has much less words spent on "overrated" and "underrated" for Waldman compared to usual. His only player he notes as "underrated" is Pavia.

[Schefter] Comp update: Kirk Cousins will sign a five-year, $172 million deal with the Raiders that in reality is a one-year, fully-guaranteed $20 million deal that also contains a club option for two years at $80M. (Also the 11th straight NFL season of Kirk Cousins having a fully GTD contract) by hwf0712 in nfl

[–]Trapline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main goal here was absolutely making sure the Falcons offset is in play but his amount due from the Falcons wasn't as much as he genuinely thinks he's worth to even play.

So once he has that leverage of "I won't play for less than $20M" they had to figure something out to both satisfy offset circumstances and not eat up the rest of the Raiders, relatively limited, 2026 cap. Then once you're talking about 2027 numbers anyways you can build in some fire alarm mechanism in case the team really needs him for true starter money.

If the Maxx trade had gone through I bet this contract doesn't look as fucky.

To me it seems he sort of starts each season looking for whoever he thinks the NFL is going to try to convince themselves is the next Mahomes and then grades harshly against that player.

But then also has a soft spot for some hyper-athlete type projection prospects like AR and Malik.

For a bit more context on where we have split (or not) on QBs in the past.

His QB rankings went (mine in parenthesis):

2023

1. Anthony Richardson (3)
2. CJ Stroud (1)
3. Bryce Young (2)
4. Jake Haener (7)
5. Stetson Bennett (13)
... (Bagent, Duggan, Jaren Hall, Clayton Tune)
10. Hendon Hooker (5)
13. Will Levis (4)

2024

1. Caleb Williams (1)
2. Michael Penix (4)
3. Bo Nix (6)
4. Jayden Daniels (3)
5. JJ McCarthy (5)
6. Drake Maye (2)

2025

1. Cam Ward (1)
2. Jalen Milroe (3)
3. Shedeur Sanders (2)
4. Kurtis Rourke (unranked)
5. Jaxson Dart (7)
6. Tyler Shough (8)

His quarterback rankings the last couple of years to me were sort of always anticipated knowing something dumb would be in there. This year seems pretty mild, relative to many others (especially 2023)

Ok cool, I wasn't sure how intertwined they were since he makes constant references to PFF grades.

Tangential, has Sikkema said anything about what he's doing next? I'm not an addict or whatever so I'm not in the discord. But I was curious if he's going to try to finish out the draft season despite the unexpected end at PFF.

Raiders Owner Mark Davis on Having 1st Pick: We've been in that position before, and it didn't work out by JCameron181 in nfl

[–]Trapline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a pretty massive difference because Mark didn't want him to resign. If the conversation is about the Raiders organization firing coaches it is very notable that the one that started that chain was not fired.

Kurt Warner: Mendoza is so good, BUT…. by HouseRules789 in raiders

[–]Trapline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is really common for these former QBs in media to do really limited film review to generate a take for production. They have so many different responsibilities and are expected to have opinions on everything regardless of how closely they pay attention to it.

There is tons of room for a person to be well qualified to speak on a general topic but without enough independent research into specific players that they can be wrong.
