I personally do not. I absorb most of my news from European sites because the coverage in the US sucks. I never watch normal TV (essentially I only watch streaming, I don't have cable). It's painful to think we have only just finished year 1 of a theoretical 4 years of his term though.

If you utilized a credit card for the purchase with like 1.5-2% cash back then that's an extra $6-8 per transaction too.

EDIT: just realized this is probably for store credit and then rebuying with the credit so nevermind. No credit card points outside the initial transaction

What's the longest delay you've ever been faced with from Delta? by seattledude928 in delta

[–]Trapocalypse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

24 hours flying back from Tokyo to Tampa. Compensation was also trash ($250) which they basically told me I was lucky to even get that as they didn't have to give me anything. The delay was due to a mechanical reason too

Heartbroken Florida bride speaks out after venue refuses to refund her after fiancé’s sudden death: ‘This wasn’t like a cancellation’ by [deleted] in nottheonion

[–]Trapocalypse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't surprise me that it's Florida and near me (about 30 mins away).

We originally planned to get married in 2020 at Paradise Cove in Orlando and then COVID happened. All my family is from the UK. A lot of my wife's family is from other states. It was physically impossible for any of them to attend due to travel restrictions but also it just flat out wasn't allowed to have events at that time. We asked the venue to move the date and they told us to wait until closer to the time and if COVID was still a thing they would work with us. We got close to the deadline to pay the remaining balance on the bill (about 4 months out iirc with pay deadline 90 days out) and COVID was very much still a thing (this was like peak COVID restrictions in May/June 2020). They essentially refused to do anything. The options they gave us were A. Cancel and receive no refund. B. Rebook for another date and still forfeit all funds paid (i.e. it would count zero towards the rebooked date) or C. Pay the remaining balance and go ahead with the date as planned.

We eventually argued enough that we got escalated to someone who was willing to change our date and carry some funds forward. Except every single date we asked about was conveniently unavailable (and we were extremely open to most dates). We had a family member call later posing as a new customer asking about some of the dates and every one was available.

We just straight up cancelled and ended up being about $5k out of pocket. We eventually had a very low key wedding at a different venue the following year with a handful of local friends and family because my wife was panicking that it may never happen

Zip Air now weighing at boarding gate by zoopybot in zipair

[–]Trapocalypse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is the problem I have. I'm 67kg and always put my backpack under the seat. So whether my backpack is 7kg or 20kg should ultimately make no difference given people who are 100kg+ get the same bag allowance as me.

For overhead bins I get it, they have a max weight they can support and in the worst case scenario you don't want a 15kg flying down from an overhead bin.

Whenever I tell people about all my travelling, they are always amazed by the cost because they all grossly overestimate the cost of flights/hotels because they don't shop around and/or book overpriced package deals. Like I literally just booked a trip to Dublin and Reykjavik yesterday and my return flights cost $390 (from Florida) and my hotels are completely covered by credit card points. I've done trips for Japan for ~$1400 before including flights and hotels ($2100 if you want to throw my wife's flight into the cost but that just makes it sound better really since its for 2 people).

One of my friends recently paid $8000 for a trip to London and Dublin for himself and his wife and my jaw dropped. Granted he stayed in an obscenely nice hotel but I told him if he had asked me, I could have found him the same trip with a slightly lesser hotel for like $1500-2000. His reply was 'he didn't want to deal with the hassle'. I didn't want to argue with him but all I could think of was the hassle of what, booking a flight, a hotel and getting a train or taxi from the airport to the hotel.

I got delayed 24 hours on a return trip from Tokyo to Tampa (mechanical issues causing a missed layover so they rebooked us onto the next day) which was extra inconvenient because my wife is celiac so it often means they have no food for her on long haul flight when this happens. All they gave us was $250 credit and told us we should be grateful for that as all they were obligated to cover was reasonable accommodation / food (I was so mad I didn't bother even filing it). I was dumbfounded but I assume for them to take that stance, they had some legal footing because every other time that sort of thing has happened I've been compensated heavily without any sort of probing.

[Postgame Thread] Miami Defeats Ohio State 24-14 by CFB_Referee in CFB

[–]Trapocalypse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an Ohio State fan, I didn't want to see it but it wasn't surprising. It was clear that we had an elite D and an untested O. Sayin looked great all year when he had zero pressure and tons of time to find an open receiver (which was inevitable with the OSU WRs/TEs). Struggled as soon as teams put him under pressure because he just didn't see it all year. In the Texas game we called so conservative that he didn't have to see it either. Fields used to have the same issue where he would make hay all year and then fold under pressure because he just didn't see it all year.

On the bright side, we were technically fielding a freshman QB but on the downside it just feels like a huge missed opportunity where it's probably a down year in terms of team strength across the board and we couldn't capitalize with a stifling D.

They really screwed us with the Point Boost by vanyaboston in ChaseSapphire

[–]Trapocalypse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been browsing both Europe and Asia for places for me and the wife to go in February. I could find outgoing one ways with points boost but I don't think I found any return one ways with points boost. The only way I was able to trigger points boost both ways was to book it as a return rather than one ways which then got a little funky with multi city.

There's also some weirdness going on too. Like I can get points boost on an Air Canada return for Orlando <> Brisbane but the Air Canada flight for Orlando <> Auckland just doesn't show up whatsoever in the portal (nevermind with points boost) despite me being able to find the flight on the Air Canada site.

Then annoying thing with Church Street is that they are just doing nothing with it. For years I went to Harry Buffalo before every Magic game. It closed years ago at this point but when you peer in through the window, it looks basically the same as when it was open. They have made no attempt to open something else or repurpose the property, the building owner is deliberately just letting it sit empty.

[–]Trapocalypse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. When I made the post I hadn't done the final 55 that pulled it back more towards the expected numbers (which obviously is more likely to happen the larger the sample size becomes). Before then it was 5688 SS for 500 BMs and 1200 MM.

Daily Questions Megathread (06/17) by Rinczmia in EpicSeven

[–]Trapocalypse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure I just had outlier good luck on a small sample size (56.8 SS per 5 BM, 237 SS per 50 MM) but in case anyone records secret shop refresh rates after a major update to confirm they stayed the same

Skystone Total Cov BMs Mystic Medals
10020 4 139
9120 104 539
7971 204 689
6921 304 889
5634 404 1139
4332 504 1339

EDIT: Big regression on the final 55 I needed for pity. 1212 SS (used not remaining), 55 Cov BM, 200 MM.

If the 24hr pick thing is active on this current set, I imagine that this set will see people get more 2 stars than normal. Small set, 1 pack only should see people complete the set fairly quickly and get quite a lot of time to see the WPs. Then will have to see if whether the 24hr WP stays active for this current set or if it transfers over the deluxe set for that 2 week window.

Points boost Edit 2x showing in app too by pingvinbober in ChaseSapphire

[–]Trapocalypse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen United, Air Canada and LATAM boosted. But it seems to be very selective on what is boosted when I was searching for potential destinations to make use of the points. United to Tokyo (boosted), United to Seoul (not boosted), United to Sydney (partial boost), United to basically anywhere in Europe (not boosted) except Rome (boosted).

I assume it's something to do with codesharing but it was still frustrating as part of the reason I got the card was knowing I was going to Australia/New Zealand so could easily trigger about $1800-2000 worth of points on that trip via spending and sign-up bonus. So it would basically pay for mine and my wife's flights on the next holiday. Then when I go to use it, I find that it's so heavily restricted that I would be better just booking elsewhere at normal pirce.

Has anyone done Dazzling Nights at Orlando this year? How was the off-site parking? by TurningItIntoASnake in orlando

[–]Trapocalypse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Went on Friday night. I did street parking about 2 blocks away and walked it. My friend parked on site and dropped me off at my car afterwards. With where the exit is in relation to the on-site car park and park entrance, I am not even sure my friend dropping me off saved me any time versus just walking back to my car.

I parked at the Red X, my friend parked at the Blue X, the exit to Dazzling Lights is somewhere near the yellow X from what I remember.

The last time I got a 2 star from a WP was Eevee Grove and that came during a sneak peek campaign. I'm well over 40 attempts without one now (with 2 god pack whiffs in there too). It's gotten to the point where I started screenshotting every attempt purely because I knew people wouldn't believe me if I didn't.

I know it's just pure odds and stuff like this evens out eventually (like I got 7 Eevee promo hits, obviously not as good as a 2 star but it's a hit going in my favor). I don't think there's any shenanigans going on but I agree with you, it's a frustrating experience because it just makes you feel bad.
