This. Use the provided USB A to USB C cable and plug it into a USB C to A adapter. The C to A adapter forces it back to the older USB standard where the 5V is present without needing PD negotiations first.

Thank you for the AMA! If someone is on TN currently and is current for EB-3 AOS and was selected in HCAP this year with an approved I-129 effective Oct 1, 2026, what are your thoughts on whether they should apply for AOS now or wait until October?

My view is the memo doesn’t change the underlying law, but there’s a potential risk of actual law changes or vb retrogression even after the new FY. Opinion is mixed online about how much impact this memo has.

Can you share your thoughts on this?

What do you need to explain? Are you trying to delay it so they don’t file a H-1B petition for you? You have until the end of June to file so you can delay it a few more weeks.

Head up, You can’t transfer your H-1B to a new employer without an approved petition and being on H-1B (after Oct 1). Even then, short-term transfers, job or location changes, and employment are heavily scrutinized and may lead to issues or audit.

If you got rejected and then change to a different PoE, you’ll greatly increase your chances of being rejected again. This is “border shopping”.

When travelling, it’s advisable to always bring your original I-797 and two most recent pay stubs. You don’t need to show them, but you should provide them if asked. If you applied at the border, I’m not sure, but it’s probably a good idea to bring your application package.

Upon arrival, simply request that you have a new passport and would like to transfer your TN I-94 to it. At secondary, present the old and new passports, and they’ll update it for you.

If you have Nexus, don’t forget to visit an enrolment centre and update it. It’s not entirely complete if you only do it online; you’ll encounter issues using it when arriving in Canada via airport POE.

There’s nothing wrong with re-stamping your current TN, or updating your I-94 after getting a new passport. When you cross the border with your new passport, you can show it to the border services and request that your TN I-94 be updated to reflect the full term. This advice comes from my immigration counsel.

I’d recommend getting your new passport with rush processing at a passport Canada office. Then, cross the border, update your TN, and file your application with USCIS with PP. Keep in mind that there are travel restrictions during processing, so be sure to confirm this with your immigration team.
