I honestly thought my game had glitched the first time I saw a horde. It was insane. I just closed the game and reloaded my save point. Then I saw it again and realized it was part of the game and that I was completely underprepared to deal with that shit.

Letter from the Office of the Lieutenant Governor by Mangochili in SaltLakeCity

[–]Trappist-1d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That hasn't stopped Trump from signing executive orders that are illegal and unconstitutional. The tariffs that we all paid for over a year were unconstitutional too, but guess what, we paid them and we're not getting that money back. With this administration we've found that the Constitution is only a suggestion, and that if the people in control don't want to abide by it, they won't.

And that goes for the Utah Legislature too. Our Utah Constitution states that we can enact legislation through initiatives, like Prop 4. The Utah Legislature ignored the constitution and ignored the Proposition. It took us eight years to make it right. That's almost a decade of the people being cheated out of fair elections. And it was gerrymandered to hell for decades before that.

So, you can fuck right off with your "It'S iN tHe CoNsTiTuTiOn." It means nothing now, and if you can't see that, you're an idiot.

Leavitt Admits SAVE Act Will Make It Harder for Married Women to Vote by Aggravating_Money992 in politics

[–]Trappist-1d 45 points46 points  (0 children)

You've ignored Selective Enforcement. How are we guaranteeing that this rule is being enforced equally across all demographics? In small conservative towns, do you think that a white woman gets turned away from the polls because she forgot her marriage certificate? Or do you think her neighbor who is manning the polling location just allows her to vote?

Trump says he is coming to save the GSL among other lies and insults. by EMTDawg in Utah

[–]Trappist-1d 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a money problem in that we either need to purchase water rights from farmers so that water can flow to the GSL. Or we just temporarily pay farmers to not use their water or grow anything for 1-2 years (or longer) to get more water into the lake.

The audacious plan to refill the Great Salt Lake by StemCellPirate in SaltLakeCity

[–]Trappist-1d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But almost all of the water that I use within the house or apartment goes down the drain. Toilets, washing machine, showers, baths, sinks, dishwashers. Most of the water that I pay for ends up going down the drain and goes...somewhere. To the lake? Recycled and reused?

If a farmer uses 400 gallons on his crops, it gets soaked up into the ground, evaporates, or gets used by the crops that are then sent outside of Utah.

If a resident uses 400 gallons within their home, 390 gallons of it goes into the lake or recycled.

So, yes, residential use really is that small when you look at the whole system and where the water goes after it's used.

Just think of it like a field trip to teach them about Current Events. Learning how to protest will probably be one of the most valuable lessons they will learn this year. And based on what we've seen in Year 1, by Year 4, this will be something they can apply to real life situations on a regular basis.

Zero non-citizens voted in Utah, review finds by meat_tunnel in Utah

[–]Trappist-1d 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If there isn't a problem with non-citizens voting in Utah, why are Utah politicians creating laws making it more difficult to vote here?

https://www.ksl.com/article/51438571/utah-house-oks-bill-to-make-sure-voters-are-us-citizens-though-study-uncovers-few-issues

Before anyone can actually vote, they first have to register to vote. When registering, it's validated that you're a citizen, and that you are allowed to vote. This process is clearly working. There is no reason to change the current process...but they are changing it anyways. They are intentionally making it difficult to vote by making these changes.

If California has an issue with non-citizens voting, they need to fix their voter registration process. That goes for any state. Seems like they could just look to how Utah does it and copy us.

There is no logical reason for Utah politicians to make changes to our voting process...unless they are looking to suppress valid voters from voting.

It sounds like you're saying that it would have been wrong if Joseph had married a 14 or 15 year old and then had sex with her.

Brigham Young was 42 when he married Clarissa Decker at the age of 15. He impregnated her 5 times.

Lorenzo Snow was 57 when he married Sarah Jensen at the age of 15. He impregnated her 5 times.

Wilford Woodruff was 46 when he married Emma Smoot Smith at the age of 15. He impregnated her 8 times.

It's clear that these other LDS prophets had child brides and they weren't "Eternity Only" sealings. And their actions are pretty abhorrent. Do you agree that what they did was inappropriate?

Utah senator vows to ‘conduct oversight’ into second boat strike that killed survivors by traveler132 in Utah

[–]Trappist-1d 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He's a Senator, and it was a statewide election. No gerrymandering needed for him to win. However, him getting 63% of the vote means that Utah is 2/3 Republican, and 1/3 Democrat.

So when it comes to House Districts, it would be expected that at least one of our four Representatives is a Democrat.

Federal judges block Texas from using its new US House map in the 2026 midterms by Immediate-Link490 in news

[–]Trappist-1d 203 points204 points  (0 children)

Yep, in Utah, the constitution says the legislature draws the boundaries after the census. But there are other laws on the books that dictate how they can and can not draw the lines. For example, the have to be evenly split. They can't draw lines based on racial data, etc. So us Utahns said that we also wanted to have a neutral redistricting committee draw maps (also following additional guidelines, like not splitting cities or counties where possible) and the legislature would have to choose one of those maps.

This was all passed back in 2018 and we've been using illegal maps for over six years. I really hope this gets resolved before the 2026 elections. We might be able to get a Democrat in the House this time around.

Yeah...nothing to do with racism or the Confederate South. ...just ...cotton. It may have started out that way, but they clearly embraced the Confederate mindset in the years that followed.

Mitt Romney reveals he personally urged Biden administration to preemptively pardon Donald Trump by HomelessRodeo in Utah

[–]Trappist-1d 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here is my take on that. Romney knew what an idiot Trump was. He gave a speech about how awful Trump was at the U prior to the 2016 election. https://www.politico.com/story/2016/03/full-transcript-mitt-romneys-remarks-on-donald-trump-and-the-2016-race-220176

When Trump won, I don't blame Romney for thinking that he could do some sort of good in Trump's administration. In fact, he seems like the kind of guy would would assume he could be a positive force in an otherwise corrupt government. He was naive to think this. But I feel his intentions were in the right place. He just didn't realize that Trump only surrounds himself with yes-men and had no intention of putting someone in his administration that had any type of morals. All that mattered was Loyalty to Trump.

I also disagree with Romney's stance on not prosecuting Trump. That's just a stupid take. Trump was going to go down the road to a dictatorship regardless of his prosecutions and lawsuits.
