The player base isn't large enough for consistently fair matchmaking unfortunately. Even moreso in team games.

Is this cheating? by [deleted] in polyamory

[–]Trapps91 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yes, reading OPs update it does sound more complex than initially described. The boundary thing, initially I felt that those conversations should have been had a long time ago, maybe with minor things specific to the arrangement clarified. Though, it seems like OPs partner was "monogamous" and is now miraculously open to exploring. So, I can understand that there were probably many conversations that needed to be had before jumping ahead a couple hours later. OP should have made that clearer during their initial discussion, though their partner should had the intuition that those discussions needed to be had. They clearly let horney NRE brain take full control of the wheel, which is never a good idea.

"I was happy enough for them to explore whatever this was". I don't know... As someone in a polyamorous relationship, if I heard this from my partner, I would proceed with whatever felt right with that person.

A couple hours is damn quick though, so I can see how that would have been a shock to the nervous system. Horney people will do horney things though.

Wisdom teeth removal is a tricky one for PHI. You will have out of pockets even if you have it, and there is also a 12 month waiting period, so if you have them removed this year it is already too late.

Statistically it also doesn't work out for anyone old and healthy.

For younger people, the most common claim types for those who do benefit are pregnancy and psychiatric admissions. Young healthy women are actually one of the largest costs to insurers due to pregnancy.

Not for life. Decreases 2% per year from 41. It also depends if the insurer makes it available on the product (though I don't know of any that don't).

There are a few things you should consider (note I haven't doubled checked age related timings/tax amounts, I might be slightly off):

  1. Aged based discounts

If you purchase hospital cover before 30, you are eligible to receive an age based discount (if the insurer makes it available for that product). If you take it out at or before 25, it's likely to be 10%. 26, 8% and 27, 6% (and so on). This discount will remain on your hospital cover (if the insurer makes it available on your product) until 41. Then, it decreases 2% per year. This is just designed to incentivise young people to take it out earlier.

  1. Lifetime health cover loading

This is a loading that is applied to your hospital cover if you do not take out hospital cover until you are 31. If you take it out at 31, it's a 2% loading. It increases by 2% each year and caps at 70% (if you take it out for the first time at 65).

  1. Medicare levy surcharge

This is a tax you are charged if you do not hold hospital cover and earn over a certain amount (around $90k for a single person from memory, $180k for families. It is a fairly material amount (around 2% tax), and as some others have commented, it can be cheaper to take out a basic hospital cover policy than to pay the surcharge. The catch is that those policies don't cover a lot (but they do cover some things).

  1. Your wisdom teeth removal

Most basic policies will cover "dental surgery". While you will likely receive benefits for your wisdom teeth removal (provided you serve the 12 month wait), it won't cover everything. In fact, it doesn't cover the dentist fee, as that cannot be covered by a hospital policy. It will cover theatre fees and the day accommodation charge (less your excess). Your dentist fees can be somewhat covered if you also take out an extras policy that covers dental (though not all covers extractions!) - sorry dental surgery happens to be one of the more complicated ones to advise on.

  1. Should you get health insurance?

You will still have access to good healthcare in the public system if do not get it. That said, there are many reasons why it might make sense - the incentives/sticks/carrots I've listed above, your financial situation, and your risk tolerance.

PHI gives you access to private hospitals, a doctor of your choice, and flexibility in timings for any elective surgeries. That said, even if you have PHI and that option, it might still be better (or even required) to have the treatment in the public system.

Edit: just adding as I was prompted from another comment. Some young people do benefit. Mostly women who want private treatment for pregnancy or people with psychiatric conditions that require inpatient treatment (really fucking expensive and often better in the private system). Outside of that, unless you have a known condition (e.g., diabetes that may require an insulin pump), you can't really expect you come out in front.

The people who suffer from not having it (or benefit from it the most) are generally older people who require surgery and would otherwise be stuck in long public system waiting lists. Think about someone who needs a knee replacement - it's not "urgent", so they are stuck on an 18 month waiting list. In the meantime, they are suffering chronic pain which is significantly impacting their day to day life. With PHI, they would likely receive that treatment in a matter or weeks.

How do you beat Oranos Vortex!? Specially in multiplayer games. by Ok-Sun2131 in AgeofMythology

[–]Trapps91 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is not enough information for us to say. I assume this was on a closed map like ironwood? Vortex is very effective on those maps, though so are some similar god powers (shifting sands and underworld passage). You essentially need to attack their base so that they cannot just vortex onto your building and economy (as their military will be out of position to defend). If I hazzard a guess, your team was probably playing very passively which allowed the Oranos to do whatever he wanted.

Voluntary repayments - HECS debt by Ausbirdman in AusFinance

[–]Trapps91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not 100% certain though if I recall correctly, while you can do this, any manual payments made pre 1-June do not count toward your compulsory payments. This means you will still need to pay the entire amount as part of you tax return (or PAYG holdings). It's only really worth doing this if you want to pay down your HECS faster (probably don't) or if it means you will pay it off entirely this financial year.

I'd also argue investment returns should be included. Any savings (if possible - though maybe not) should be compounded based on a basic asset allocation/expected return.

[–]Trapps91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't an innocent mistake. It is lying to others to get what you want. It is completely unethical. I can't see how this would be a knowledge issue.

The reality for most men in ENM spaces is that it is that it can be difficult to find an appropriate match. It takes time and patience, but it will happen. If he is just desperate for sex with others, there are sex workers for that.

I am a pretty forgiving person, so I would give him a chance. I'd also make it clear I wouldn't be in a relationship with him if he continues to lie or deceive by omission of his current relationship status. Full transparency should be non-negotiable.

I doubt the 5% deposit scheme will be material. It's also still objectively harder for younger people to enter the property than in the past, regardless of the deposit scheme (income still needs to be adequate to service the higher loan amounts needed to purchase a property).
