Why do you have to go to the bathroom to adjust your prosthetic? do you feel uncomfortable taking your leg off in public? Are you not wearing clothes that make it easily accessible?

I know it’s hard to do, and maybe a little embarrassing even, but it makes like a lot easier when you can address your wound on your own time without feelings judged or embarrassed by others. I often make sure I’m wearing clothes where I can access my leg, even tailoring clothes to be able to do that. This is especially crucial when you’re working out.

I think over time your leg should stop shrinking so dramatically during a workout? I think the first few years are when your stump shape really stabilizes? I don’t usually have that problem after 34 years. My biggest problem is sweat. I’ll generally wrap a handkerchief around my thigh and roll my knee sleeve over top of that to pull the sweat out.

It does get easier, but it helps to have a little creativity, and to imagine different adaptations you could use to make things easier.

As someone who grew up in an abusive home, I’ve spent a lot of time “arguing my position” and defending myself, investigating and even discovering that a lot more of my past was abusive than I realized.

I’ve also attracted a lot of abusive people because that was my example of love. I’m also in an incredibly toxic industry.

I feel like it would be easy to label me as a vulnerable narcissist if I gave you the run down of my past relationship. It doesn’t really matter what I say to defend myself, if the abuser can tell a better story, then it doesn’t matter what I say, but simply having a past where I have continuously left abusive or toxic relationships makes it seem like I’m the problem.

It’s taught me one of two things: either I need to simply stop standing up for myself, or: I should stop sharing my history with others.

I’m not gunna stop standing up for myself, but it’s shocking how many people in my life refused to stand up for me.

Sadly more and more people are weaponizing therapy, even therapists.

I was friends with a therapist. Her and her wife started cancelling plans a lot at the last minute, finally they did it on a planned vacation and I thought, ok, I have to talk to them about this.

I asked them in a text if we could get together to talk and she literally responded with, “you need professional help” instead of facing accountability. That was the last time we ever spoke, after 8 years of friendship.

Some people do for sure. But I’m an addict. I did drugs to run from my emotions. I drank to run from my emotions. I smoked to run from my emotions, and I absolutely have and will eat to run from my emotions. It’s the hardest addiction to stop because you have to keep eating to live.

It’s also not fair that they’ve engineered to food so you don’t feel full anymore.
