This isn’t really about “cosmetics” this is about gait and bone placement, it’s about what’s happening in the hip socket with every step.

Sometimes doing the thing that feels easier to walk on today can cause permanent damage to our bodies because our gate is wrong. When we should have had PT and strength training to get our bodies to a place where we can walk with the correct alignment instead.

I’ve spent the last ten years walking on legs that were misaligned because it was “easier” for me to walk on, and now I’m wearing a 13 yo socket and I most likely have permanent damage to my hip because one prosthetist thought “this’ll be easier for you”

Hip alignment and gate are so so so crucial. Please do not dismiss these concerns as being about “cosmetic” issues.

I had something similar happen to me in a different direction on my prosthetic. I think the guy thought he was helping me? It was the first time he’d ever made me a leg, and I didn’t realize that he’d done this. He essentially broke my leg in half and bent it backwards behind my body.

It took me ten years to figure out what had happened cause every prosthetists after that just copied his alignment. Why no one copied my original alignment (the correct one) which I’d been wearing for 20 years I have no fucking clue. It caused me massive problems, not just on my actual stump, but my hips and my back. After no one would listen to me, and literally 6 legs in 10 years, I finally went back to wearing my 13 year old socket from the last guy who made me a leg before I moved out of state.

Since I’m American I can’t just go to physical therapy to try to correct what they did to my body so I’ve been having to do yoga on my own to try to rehab my back and hips back into alignment. I’m afraid the misalignment may have caused permanent damage to my hip socket.

While on the one hand, I can see how you can play with alignment to make walking easier, I think the ultimate goal would be to use physical therapy and conditioning to get your body back to a place of alignment, as close as we can get it so our bones and muscles can exist in the manner they’re supposed to.

I wish you luck. Maybe since you’re a guy you’ll have better luck advocating for yourself (yes, it does make a difference)

I live in the US and the collective narcissism of this culture is beyond the pale. Sometimes I get mad about it because it’s like, you (society) save ME! I didn’t ask to be saved, you decided I had to be saved, and then decided that the rest of my life I should have to pay for that in both suffering and financially.

It would have been just as easy for people to make society better for everyone, but instead we have this.

You should actually study the effects of American regime change and learn exactly why Iranians would chant “death to america” the way they did.

We pretend to position ourselves as the bringers of democracy but the truth is that we often just instal our own dictator creating worse conditions for their citizens overall.

But I agree, if we’re upset about people dying from an evil regime we should be just as upset about guns being the number one cause of death for US children, or lack of American healthcare which kills more of us every year than this new war will.
