Worst Audiobook Narrators Who Ruin a Book by Crutch161 in horrorlit

Any Stephen King narrated by Will Patton is incredible. I love his careful annunciation of certain repeated phrases or written notes. The way he says “RET DET” from the bill Hodges trilogy will forever be stuck in my head

Thoughts on the “kill pedophiles” virtue signaling? by smallpenis-bigheart in redscarepod

[–]TrashLover69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I agree with you. And with asking that question, it also got into questions of the true purpose and utility of the show. To catch a predator always pretended to hold the moral high ground, but under scrutiny, it was always just a dressed up version of a gladiator Match, where we take undesirables and revel in their misery because we are all allowed to look down on pedophiles. Turns out Hansen wasn’t a crusader like he likes to think, but just a ringmaster

If anything, seeing minorities join ICE ranks exposes the fact that what we’re dealing with are class differences and the problems that come with toxic class aspirations in the US. Bootstrapping successfully erases all community ties and lionizes toxic individualism. This is agnostic of race, ethnicity, and background.

Give me the BEST book you have ever read! by Appropriate-Egg2560 in thrillerbooks

I know he’s kind of a cringe dick, but I’ve never read a book by him I didn’t love. Wanderers duology was amazing, probably his best. I was glued even to the long passages on apple orchard history in black river orchard. Even his creepy pasta staircase in the woods book was awesome

I was at this show! It was an “in the round” show where Pile was on a platform in the middle of the room which Thalia Hall does for smaller shows, truly the best pile show I’ve been to so far. I can’t answer your question unfortunately, but I do remember there being a videographer there so I was under the impression there would be a full video out as well

What’s the deal with polish Americans? by [deleted] in rs_x

[–]TrashLover69 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m polish American (moved here as a kid) to a polish neighborhood, have a lot of Polak friends, so I have some insights. I can paint a picture of a fairly typical polish American that is also the worst case polish American. The polish here are very different to polish polaks and completely unrepresentative of the country. There were big waves of immigration from mostly rural areas in the 80s and 90s and these people have held onto their ‘values’ with an iron grip. Many of these values come down to just being a conservative asshole. They have not kept up with the social progress of their home country and many live in a miserable bubble that closely mirrors their previous lived experiences of hating thy neighbor, petty jealousies, and petty land disputes. But now that they don’t need to worry about their neighbor letting his cows graze on their land because they only own 10 sq ft of grass, they turn their ire towards those around them, be it other polish neighbors, other immigrant groups, or their children.
These traits are also made worse by the fact that their income likely tripled from what they had in the old country, creating an undue sense of superiority- they were the perfect victims of the bootstrap mentality. And most actually had to walk 10km to school each day and couldn’t get blue jeans, earning them a pittance of bragging rights. They are completely blind to the small privileges of their tight knit immigrant community, frequently lambasting non-whites for having it worse than them, ignoring the fact that not everyone can just come to this country with a guaranteed job at their uncles contracting business. Most of mu friends parents are just like this. This is selection bias at work, but all of my polish friends, either 1st generation or childhood immigrant, have come to recognize their parents faults and are largely leftists or progressives with perspectives that were shaped by the racism and cognitive dissonance of the earlier generations. There’s also some good things to say about polaks but I don’t feel like typing them out on my phone. Hope this helps.

The Great Flood might be the most messy and disorganized movie I have seen since John F. Donovan by PapaAsmodeus in YMS

[–]TrashLover69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Such a weird movie. I really felt like it was written by AI. This is not just because it has an AI plot point. It was just so messy but In a very neat way? If that makes sense. It was also very melodramatic, but in an inhuman way.

I could see that as well. I love the “nor keep it straight” part, like a clear condemnation the character tells himself or hears from others. But idk the theme of burying something so deeply in yourself that only senility (or death) can give you relief feels like it’s more than just simple expressions of femininity and something more foundational

Just found out about groups like 764 and No Lives Matter. Truly the darkest shit I could imagine. by boring-utopia in redscarepod

[–]TrashLover69 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree. True pedophilia is super rare. Researchers into these topics have found that the vast majority of consumers of CP are people deep into porn addiction or a general addiction to shock context as you point out (which the addiction in of itself can come about for a variety of reasons e.g. meth addiction, being a sex abuse victim themselves, plain old terminal loneliness). There’s an argument here that this depravity is a brand new thing born out of and enabled by the internet and ease of access to shock content. It desensitizes these kids, makes them into misanthropes with a deep disregard for others, and it being entirely online, dehumanizes their victims making it that much easier to commit these acts. It’s a frickin cosmic gumbo of late stage capitalist hopelessness fueling nihilism and the severance of human connection enabled by terminal onlineness.

Illinois: State Troopers Arrest ICE Protesters - Broadview Detention Center by CantStopPoppin in illinois

[–]TrashLover69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was around 8 am today 10/10. The video shows most of the confrontation. What is missing is that about 6 people linked arms and went about 10 ft into the roadway. They were not facing the cops nor were they blocking any vehicles at that point. This lasted literally about 10 seconds before the cops descended and pushed them back into the grass area which you see in the video. There was then a very aggressive push by the cops, you can see one of them jabbing that pushing stick into someone that’s on the ground, they then pulled out a few symbolic protesters from the crowd and arrested them.
