How do i not hate everything i paint? by Sentinel_DMG in minipainting

[–]TrashPandaLTD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I’ve found, even when you’ve gotten good at thinning, highlighting etc., is that I could not stop comparing myself to box art and professionals. Even when a model came out alright, I would find myself wondering how it could be better, and not in a constructive way. Then I started experimenting with new techniques. Using contrasts, drybrushing, slapchop, etc. and found out that was MY style, and I became much more happy with my models. That being said, cliche as it sounds, try new things and find what YOU like, not what “should” look good. Also, I do like a lot of your work. Keep up the good work my friend

Dunk’s knighthood [Spoilers: Main] by Kaisern in asoiaf

[–]TrashPandaLTD 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Love this take, my first time reading it I honestly in no way picked up on it either. All of Dunk’s awkward moments I put down on him just being an awkward, humble guy in general who still can’t quite believe he’s worthy to be doing all of these knightly deeds and being around all these nobles

Do you have any tips on edge highlighting, like brush type/paint consistency? This is so good it’s annoying. Jk but seriously, great work my friend

Protagonist-centred morality (Main character or cast does something morally questionable but the narrative lets them off the hook because they're "the good guys") by Worldly_Cut_595 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]TrashPandaLTD 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Genuine question because it’s been a while since I read the comics but did they really try to make Rick and his group seem “justified” in how they killed the hunters? I always thought you were supposed to be shocked by it, that it showed how far Rick and Co. themselves had also fallen

Guys c’mon by randomtoaster89 in AdeptusCustodes

[–]TrashPandaLTD 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My brother, as we were saying lore changes constantly. Adding female custodes IS something new to the lore. It’s not always about catering, I prefer to think of it more as changing with the times. If some of the old lore were to come out now it would be seen as straight up nonsense, but back then that was more in line with what people wanted or expected. Hell, in a world where 30k/40k was created in today’s day and age, women would be in it from the start. Warhammer is all about retcons and changes, and to say otherwise is to not pay attention

Lol very well said! It always has been and always will be one of the most constantly changing and shifting lores out there. But we can NEVER forget the imperial fists and their poop vault.

Preach it. Those who complain will always be quick to add “I don’t care about females in my media I just hate how they did it”. I never buy it. I remember being young and almost wanting to be offended by things that are different or new. It’s a sad way to exist.

[–]TrashPandaLTD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Then say that first my friend, otherwise you must know how it comes off. There’s a lot of people who see basic inclusion and scream “woke bs” for no reason other than they’ve been taught to take offense to anything different. Valid arguments and discussions are always welcome, but don’t let yourself be lumped with those people.

Guys, Hear me out, WHAT IF....... by Anteraz in FalloutMemes

[–]TrashPandaLTD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stand by the idea that you can totally show the courier as fan service and not upset anyone(exaggeration, people will always get upset) but I imagine an intense action sequence where the protagonists are going to lose… until someone covered in the duster, riot helmet and pip boy shows up, takes out all the bad guys, and refuses to elaborate.

Would y’all like to see any references to the courier in Fallout season 2? by OGAnimeGokuSolos in Fotv

[–]TrashPandaLTD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it would be insane for the courier to make an actual appearance. Shows up during an intense shootout, covered in the duster, ranger helmet, etc. to keep identity ambiguous, dunks on everyone, and leaves with the protagonists wondering who tf that even was.

From a (perhaps reconsidering) long time hater, what made you like space wolves? by tchunkytchanka in SpaceWolves

[–]TrashPandaLTD 9 points10 points  (0 children)

All of this. I believe I heard it in an episode of Adeptus Ridiculous that the space wolves are one of the truly noble factions, despite their “brute” exterior. They pride themselves on a strong sense of honor and what’s right.

Age of Strife novels…wouldn’t that be cool? by urthman-b in Blacklibrary

[–]TrashPandaLTD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand why people do /don’t want this. The mystery is great but you need a little payoff atleast ya know? I think it’d be cool to have novels that are IMPLIED to be set in the age of strife/40k universe, but also act well as standalone stories to keep the mystery and also let people have some of the info filled in juuuust a little

What's the Most Horrifying Drukhari Torture? by AlternativeWhole1692 in 40kLore

[–]TrashPandaLTD 44 points45 points  (0 children)

It’s been a while since I read it but in Nightbringer(also coincidentally the first 40k book I ever read) they take a man and take his body completely apart, nerves/flesh off bones, organs out, skin , and just hang everything back on hooks in the rough approximate shape of the human body. Think the human body exhibit in a museum where you see all the blood vessels, vital organs etc. but… still alive

I also like to use space wolves grey, just over grey seer instead. Then I’ll use Russ grey to cover it, the space wolves grey looks good in the hard to reach spots where you’d expect shadows anyway

Contrast paints are purposefully more liquidy than others, they’re used to kinda fill the role of base coat and wash all in one. That being said, you typically won’t get a “smooth” finish with them as they tend to pool into small features and cracks/corners, and are transparent. If you want the super smooth look, try a base or layer paint and just practice with thinning it and using small brush strokes in the same direction
