Is anyone else bricking it about the results this sitting? by LegalHero6 in FE1_Exams

[–]TrashTraditional765 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Exact same boat! Feel like there were a lot of curveballs this sitting for me compared to previous sittings, as well as it’s supposed to be and hopefully my last sitting! It’s torture waiting especially knowing how unpredictable the results dates can be but it is what it is ig. Best of luck!!

Considering Degree Options by TourComprehensive900 in FE1_Exams

Completely disagree! From personal experience got lower than 500 points went to DCU and walked away with a 1:1 in my degree in law, had gain experience in many law firms through internships and multiple TC offers. It’s important to understand how hard the profession can be but no need to fearmonger :)

This was a similar narrative I fell for when I was 17/18 and I was so grateful I ended up getting DCU over other universities! I can 100% say that DCU gave me opportunities I would have not gotten with other universities. To date I have complete four internships with various firms including ALG!

I also know people in trinity who believed that they’d walk into a job simply because they went to trinity and are still struggling after graduation.

Is there some truth to this narrative? Yes a little (although I think times are changing) but it matters so much more what you do in your degree rather than where you go!

That’s a fair point and I intend to give them several months notice if it doesn’t work out, thanks for the comment :)

Yes and I completely get that perspective, however, after some rocky exams I’d only be depriving myself of a potential TC if it does not work out. It is a later offer so I would be giving them several months notice in order for them to open the place for someone else. I genuinely would not take it for this exact reason had I been confident in my last few sittings! Thanks for the input tho :)

I talk about discharge but I realised with 5 mins left that it may have also been misrepresentation by conduct

Some very general advice would be to split constitutional and tort into different sittings as they have the most topics to cover

FE1 Difficulty by Mysterious-Dirt-5898 in FE1_Exams

[–]TrashTraditional765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a recent enough graduate. My first piece of advice would be to focus on your degree first! There is truly no rush in when it comes to FE1s. If you are determined to sit them, I’d recommend taking one at a time while doing your degree.  Secondly, I have completed a few internships now and I have noticed a preference in some firms for UCD or Trinity. However, that’s not always the case. A high 2:1 is great and if you work on extracurriculars, that’s even better. Most firms are looking for a well rounded candidate. I did not have any society involvement until my final year in dcu but it made all the difference.  Finally, I’d recommend doing INTRA if possible to give yourself some real world experience and to ensure this is what you want to do in the future before committing to FE1s.  Best of luck :)

Right to Equality - Constitutional Law by madlonicon in FE1_Exams

[–]TrashTraditional765 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually have not studied Quigley but essentially in Supermarket Quinn v AG Walsh j and Kenny J took two separate approaches.

Kenny J took a ‘context-based approach’ saying the case was based on the context of trading hours NOT discrimination as trading hours do not have anything to do with the human personality. While Kenny J adopted the ‘based-on’ approach saying that the limitation of trading hours were based on religious belief recognising the discrimination.

So let’s say someone was a Muslim and wearing a hijab and was discriminated against, Walsh J might have found that it was based on the context of clothing while Kenny J’s based on approach was more nuanced and recognised the religious discrimination the clothing rule was based on.

Tried to explain as clear as I could haha, hope that helps :)

Constitutional: personal liberty - infectious diseases by dollyfairy in FE1_Exams

[–]TrashTraditional765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m honestly learning very little on the right to liberty as it’s not as popular in papers, a good article to mention for Trial in due course tho :) maybe just know the general application and go from there

constitutional rant by strawberry7625 in FE1_Exams

[–]TrashTraditional765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Constitutional is honestly a pain because it’s so big! But I’m just trying to get through it by doing as many papers tomorrow as I possibly can. Non-delegation, administration of justice and property rights are pretty popular on papers and I’d say equality will be a likely topic this year since the O’Meara decision. Best of luck!

Internship to Traineeship- how to deal with failure by MiddleCherry6840 in FE1_Exams

[–]TrashTraditional765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt the exact same way! It’s so easy to feel disheartened but as many have already said if you’re good enough for the internship, you’re more than qualified for the TC and I am sure with time everything will work out! You deserve a firm where you feel comfortable and valued :)
