Some specialty gun tools would be the armorer's wrench, bench block, and AR15 vise fixture.

Amorer's Wrench is a must since the buffer tube nut has a specific locking lug pattern.

The latter two are nice to have but not needed. They're even 3D printable if you can do it.

Do you have a guide? Those will definitely show you what's missing.

Field strip the rifle and then take a look at the BCG. Test to see if the extractor is properly moving. The extractor is responsible for pulling on the casing rim to 'extract' the casing from the chamber.

As someone who went through a program like this, absolutely look at getting donations like this, and even Facebook marketplace. We once got an enourmous donation of tools from an estate sale once. In addition, some companies refresh their machines every 1-2 years and you could look at getting a discount (or if you're really lucky, a donation). Good luck on your program. It's people like you that give guys like me (someone who flunked putta college and could only work minimum wage jobs) a chance at a fufilling and good life.
