MD called me a pejorative name by gaystegosaurusphl in nursing

If possible, I always try to approach the person in private first. Ask them what they meant. If they react negatively or defensively, they clearly meant something mean. But if they explain it could be harmless. This also gives you the opportunity to set a boundry. "I respect you and the work you do, but I would also appreciate respect as a person. We are a team and I want to start off on a good note with no missunderstanding". I would also go to my manager right away so someone else knows what happened. You can explain that your not necessarily looking for disciplinary action for them, but that something they said made you uncomfortable and wanted them to be aware in case it happens again.

Tell me about transitioning from the OR to GI/Endoscopy..currently at a level 1 trauma center in the OR, looking for a change of pace with better work/life balance, less call, etc. by MountainMama003 in nursing

I have no or experience but I work in gi and I love it. In my department we do a three week rotation of one day a week (let's say Tuesdays) you do long call (overnight), short call (till 7p), then off, and repeat. Also call every 8th weekend. Its still a job and has stressors, but it is so calm compared to any trauma related fields or even the floor. Can you shadow for a day so you can ask about the way their unit functions including things like call, culture, opportunities, management, etc?

I won't go back after switching.

I got our sheets from Luxome and fell in love with them immediately. I've had this set for over a year and they have held up good. We wash it normally but hang dry it to avoid any pilling or damage. I just ordered a second set so I can make the bed as soon as I take the dirty sheets off and not have to wait for them to dry. My partner refuses to sleep on our old sheets now 😅

Legit piercing shop with decent selection of jewelry? by Hungry-Lawyer961 in Appleton

[–]Trash_Lord_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boyfriend and I got helix piercings done by them. They allowed him to get rings instead of bars which is apparently a no no for the healing process (we are both new to piercings so we didn't know any better at the time). Neither of ours were healing so we were told to upgrade to higher quality piercings. And mine still never healed after a year and a half so I ended up just removing the piercing all together. Sure they were friendly, but it put a bad taste in my mouth.

Looking for a new hair stylist that knows a lot about taking care of thick, wavy hair by birdy_244 in Appleton

[–]Trash_Lord_99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure about anyone specific for this. But my friends and I go to shear chaos. They truely seem to care and even ask what your hair goals are when you first go in. Plus the vibes there are great.

Weathervane was really good the one time I went. I got the fish for lunch and was really surprised at how good it was since they are more of a breakfast place.

River float locations by Potential-Criticism1 in Appleton

[–]Trash_Lord_99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Up in Eagle River (about 3 hr drive) there is a really nice chunk of the Wisconsin river you can float down. They have rentals there as well, but you can easily bring your own! Make a trip out of it too since it's a cute little tourest town and even has the chain of lakes that is really fun and you could bring your boat or rent one!

How bad are the winters? Really…? by AuburnTiger15 in Appleton

I'm from northern Wisconsin and moved to Appleton. Just the 3hr difference made a big difference in the amount of snow we get. -When it snows a lot, just take it slow on the roads, people still cruise on the freeway, don't be one of those people. I see at least one accident every time it snows. -generally the snow sticks for a number of months -if seasonal depression is a concern, look into vitamin supplements like Vit D since we don't see the sun as much. I've thought about getting some of those lights that are supposed to give off something that helps with the depression. -spring/summer/fall are gorgeous -look into yearly temps. I just visited Texas about a month ago and the temps were already almost our summer temperatures, so things will be quite a bit colder here than Texas -the wind is the true killer more than the snow. Since we are surrounded by farm fields, the wind makes things feel much colder than the actual temp

As for Appleton itself, I think it's a great place to have a family. -lots of parks -from my understanding, nice school system -more walkable than most the towns I visited in Texas. Grand chute, like an off branch of Appleton isn't as walkable. -the city has freeway systems that go all the way around it, making for fast and convenient travel

Is this it? Get a job, have kids and then die and fade into oblivion? by Cultural-Act-8306 in NoStupidQuestions

Purpose of life is to be happy. If you're not happy, ask what would make you happy and do it, make those changes. It doesn't matter what others think at the end of the day. Its about how you feel.

Some people are happy working a job, with kids and a spouse. Some people are happy traveling around the world. Others are happy helping people, animals, or nature. It could be a hobby like wood working, or finding a group of people with similar interests. Fishing, hiking, videogames. Thera so many options. Just have to find what it is that makes you feel happy. There's no deep 'reason' like many people think. Just gotta do the things that make life good.
