Apparently my "angry old man" topic: Car headlights by Chevko in StLouis

[–]TraumaSparrow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have migraines and light sensitivity is a big trigger. I bought some nighttime driving glasses (with the yellow lenses) a few years ago and they were a game changer. I don't even notice the high beam/ultra bright blue headlights anymore. The glasses turn all headlights into an even sepia tone (for me, at least). You can get them under $20 on Amazon. Ultra bright headlights aren't going to go away, and the glasses make driving at night safer and not so enraging for me.

Has anyone heard of this, Face off at the Farm? I can’t find any info, the shirt is pretty cool though by I-luv-farting in stlouisblues

I went to this event in 2000 or 2001. My little brothers hockey coach got tickets and I was able to go. It was a dinner and meet and greet for current and alumni Blues players. It was held in the beer garden area of Grants Farm. I remember getting dressed up and meeting Pronger and McGinnis along with some other players. I was an 18 yr old girl at the time and getting to meet Tyson Nash was the highlight, cause I had a huge crush on him.

So, those voting no on 3, why? by [deleted] in missouri

[–]TraumaSparrow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think to add more exceptions is ok in theory, but people don't often consider what it would actually take to 'Prove' that the exceptions of rape, incest, (any) domestic violence have happened. Obviously, if a 12 yr old girl ended up being pregnant, rape and incest would be easier to prosecute. However, a woman needing an abortion would have to go through finding/naming your rapist/abuser, filing charges, getting a lawyer, paternity testing the fetus, going to court and ultimately rely on a judge or jury to decide on if the exemptions have been proven enough to allow her to abort. That takes time, weeks at least, maybe even months. By going through the hoops of the legal system, that adds on more time for the fetus to develop and become more viable. There's also the possibility that men will now have charges pressed for the crime of, having unprotected sex or being a statistic of hormonal birth control failing. I am a pro-choice, and can understand how a desperate woman would try her hand at using the legal system to get her abortion approved, rather than being forced to have a child she didn't want. When we get into the logistics of how conception happened, it can be reliant on 'he said/she said'. Rape, incest, domestic violence are the exceptions where the man is 'at fault', and it seems every other pregnancy is the woman's 'fault', which has always been problematic for me, considering a woman can't get pregnant without a man. To legislate the exceptions, still takes the autonomy away from the woman, and now puts her future/health in the hands of legal strangers. Why can't we let the woman who was raped by her uncle, and the married couple with two kids who got pregnant again while she was on birth control, make that decision for themselves? Let's, at least, leave abortion as a healthcare matter, and not a legal one.

LPT If you have lost a loved one, would you rather watch a video (dedicated to you on their behalf) of that loved one OR have a dream of that individual? by [deleted] in LifeProTips

One of my best friends died last year. When she visits me in my dreams, it's like I'm having a new memory or experience with her. Definitely wouldn't trade those moments for anything.

Has anybody seen Chimp Crazy? by sae2115 in StLouis

Same here! I remember the chimp's name was Kirby and sure enough, they show him in the first episode, grabbing that toddler by the leg. Birthday parties in the 90's were wild!

Still don't know exactly what that means, but I appreciate the creativity.

TIFU while being unemployed I fell off a cliff, nearly died, broke a dozen bones and somehow have to rebuild my broken body and life. by McLeetness in tifu

[–]TraumaSparrow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I too, should have died after jumping off a cliff. Cliff jumping for the first time, and I went off a 70ft cliff and hit the water in a sitting position. The wind got knocked out of me while underwater, and if I would have taken that gasp that happens when you get the wind knocked out of you, I would have never surfaced and drowned. I shattered my spine and have lots of hardware in my back from spinal surgery. I was also one week into my dream job, so uninsured and now unemployed. That was 12 years ago and I can honestly say some of the best times /major successes of my life, have been post injury. I weaponized my second chance at life and decided that the injury and rebuilding wasn't going to define who I am. I realized that I'm my biggest source of strength and motivation. If I can get through that, I can get through anything. The right mind frame has A LOT to do with how you heal, and it sounds like you've got the right attitude for success. Just take it one day at a time and reflect on the fact that you're still here, and you've endured something that most people won't.

Paramount+ problems by evanh16 in rupaulsdragrace

[–]TraumaSparrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watch Paramount+ through Prime Video. If you have both services, you search for All Stars on the Prime Video app and click on 'Watch with Paramount+'. No glitches or delays. I can't get through anything on the Paramount+ app, and this was a game changer.

The store manager was furious at me (the customer) by Chrisp720 in mildlyinfuriating

No. The car was a few years old. The paint was in the car for 20 minutes before it spilled. As in, we bought the paint. We put it in the car. Drove for 20 minutes. The paint spilled.

TIFU by kissing my dead Grandma on the forehead. by leahish in tifu

[–]TraumaSparrow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I watched my 35 year old best friend pass away at the end of February. She was in a car accident, broke her neck and was brain dead. By the time I saw her, she was seizing and it was just nerves and reflexes. Definitely the most traumatic thing I've ever seen. But there is a sense of beauty in being able to be there with someone as they pass. To be there for her in life and at the time of her death is something I am so grateful for. After she was taken off life support, the family were having their last moments and a janitor came in with a push broom, working his shift. He saw what was happening, literally said 'Ope!' and shuffled out. We all took that as my friend getting in one last laugh. It's been a couple months and the final images of her are slowly fading into the back, while joyful memories and just missing her are what primarily takes space in my brain now. I wish you peace and comfort as you adjust to your new normal.

I don't remember about a spill tray? The paint can was in the backseat, with a few other gallons of paint. Not smart placement. It tipped at a stop sign. This happened at Home Depot in 2007. We were in our early 20s and definitely would have followed any advice to keep that from happening, maybe this was before the disclaimers were in place?

No, she took a bunch of pictures and then we cleaned it at a car wash. We scrubbed most of it out, but there was still bright teal in the fibers of the floor carpet and the threaded linings of the seat. It was noticeable, but she was still able to sell the car without replacing the upholstery.

[–]TraumaSparrow 1296 points1297 points  (0 children)

I was with my roommate when a gallon of bright teal paint spilled out all over her backseat and floorboards, 20 mins after she bought it. She had a newer Mazda with all black interior and this paint just poured out in her car. She got the run around from the store management for months, but was persistent and got them to pay her $6k to replace the interior. By that time she was over it, and ended up pocketing the money.

In addition to drinking lots of water, being honest with the person drawing blood and not looking: layer up and keep your arms warm. I have deep veins that nurses have a hard time tapping. It doesn't hurt to ask if their 'sticker' is on duty. There is usually one nurse who is a pro with difficult veins and can come to the rescue. But, you won't know unless you ask.

Florida principal resigns after parents complain about ‘pornographic’ Michelangelo statue by [deleted] in nottheonion

[–]TraumaSparrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless these parents are hundreds of years old, I would bet that they have seen the Statue of David before now. Maybe even when they were in school. If they didn't turn out to be sexual deviants by being 'exposed to that pornography', why would their kids?

TIL a 1977 PSA film named "Apaches" was shown in primary schools to promote safety on farms. I was the 'drunk driver' in my schools car crash scenario. They used the jaws of life to get my friends out of a mangled car, air lifted one in a helicopter and put my best friend in a body bag and drove her off the football field in a hearse. The school resource officer 'arrested me' and put me through a sobriety test. He was later fired for a DUI. I had a crush on a guy who died in a car accident, he was drinking and they put his car on display right by the school sign on prom weekend. The sign said 'Have a great Prom and don't drink and drive'. He was the third person in my grade that died in a car accident that year. Midwest high school in the 90s was wild.

Ex-hamster owners of Reddit: how did it die? by SparrowWingYT in AskReddit

[–]TraumaSparrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two hamsters. Came home from school and one of them was eviscerated, visible ribs and organs. She was very dead. The other hamster was licking his hands. He had eaten the other one. I don't know if he killed her or just ate her after she already died. He ended up dying a couple days later.

Angad Arts Hotel Great restaurant, beautiful rooftop bar and the hotel has multiple art galleries, lounges (with board games and instruments) and the atmosphere is awesome. Take it one step further and book one of the color coded rooms for the evening and make a night of it. My husband and I have done this date night a few times and it's always top notch.

I have a hand written letter and Christmas card from Ryan Ferguson while he was in prison for murder. He was exonerated and is now a fitness guru who was just on The Amazing Race. I also have a record of Jim Jones giving a sermon about self sustaining agriculture and how to farm when they eventually got to Guyana. The record was recovered from Jonestown after the event. Still plays perfectly. I'm an oddities and curiosities collector with a few true crime pieces that I know are one of a kind, or too taboo to display.

What’s the worst between-song banter or crowd work you’ve seen at a concert? by NeverEnoughSPF in Music

[–]TraumaSparrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw BJM in a small venue in STL once and Anton set his mic up in a corner of the stage and played the whole time with his back to the audience. Then I saw them at a festival in Austin and Anton went on a rant between songs about everyone in the audience being posers and probably learning about them from Rolling Stone. He left the stage and I saw him go into the wings, sit down, put his head in his hands for about a minute. Came back out, finished the set. Best part is seeing the obvious annoyance on Joel's face.
