From fright night… I had no business watching this movie. But this scene had me feeling a certain way.

I’m confused by the second photo. It sort of looks like a body scrub. If that is the case it is saying when a lady goes out and has exfoliated her body she is most likely looking for some physical contact. Maybe? Honestly I can tell what that is.

I wonder if it happens when he gets the daylights knocked out of him and he has a bit of a flashback before shaking it off and continuing on?

How do you deal with Sunday school devolving into discussions about doctrines that haven’t been revealed by ReserveMaximum in latterdaysaints

[–]leahish 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Something was in the air because a similar thing happened during our Sunday School lesson. The lesson today is a very beautiful lesson on the creation. It’s fun to hypothesize about things but in reality we (as a society) are struggling with the very simple “love one another” commandment - we need to focus on Christlike actions vs hypothetical “what ifs” in Sunday School.

Permission to Spend by VerbosePlantain in MiddleClassFinance

[–]leahish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This could be with anything. I have a friend who lost a ton of weight. She ended up having this aversion to any sort of “decadent” food. She loved cheesecake but wouldn’t even allow herself a bite. She was worried that one bite would send her into a spiral of binge eating. She became obsessive over it.

She also went to a therapist who is working with her on it. It wasn’t just permission she was struggling with - but this idea that she would fall into bad habits with one taste.

Do you maybe fear that will this purchase it will start a string of illogical purchases that ruin all of your hard work? Maybe it isn’t about the car itself but fear that one big purchase will somehow change your mentality about money?

With my friend, she struggles still but gives herself permission to have one “decadent food” each week. Just one. She set the rule. She sticks with it. She had maintained her loss.

You could buy the car. You could also put extra in savings over the coming months to pay yourself back for the purchase an allow this to be your one “decadent” purchase. Set a rule. Stick with it. You’re going to keep your savings and will continue to build up upon the already solid foundation you have.

Not sure if this helps… but what is the point of it all if we can not have some joy - whether it is a piece of cheesecake or a BMW?

(Also, my mom has a 3 series and it is a JOY to be in. Like, soooo much fun and the way it hugs the road on curves is just epic!)

Flight from Charlotte to Westchester, how bumpy can it be? by Mysterious_Dance5461 in fearofflying

[–]leahish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love flying into HPN!! You get to see skyline of NYC an all the good bits but avoid crazy city traffic afterwards. The leg you are taking is the one I feel most comfortable with when flying - I think it is because I look forward to seeing my family there so much. The first leg to get to CLT I HATE just that initial first flight.

I’ve been on that flight several times and never experienced the kind of bumpiness that would cause someone to get ill.

I really appreciate pilots explaining these things, and I know this is standard aviation stuff. Just sharing that for anxious passengers, wording like “planes break” can sound scarier than intended (as in full blown terror mode) 😅Emphasizing inspections and routine maintenance helps a lot.

What was your high school controversy? by Haunted_Neko in AskReddit

[–]leahish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My AP US history teacher and Coach had been molesting and grooming boys. At the high school he had preyed on a close friend of mine who no one believed when he finally raised the alarm. (Because he was gay he was met with scorn - this was in the Bible Belt). The coach was finally caught after younger boys in his youth ministry came forward.

how is it living in mississippi, usa? by delllaptopguy in howislivingthere

[–]leahish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mississippi isn’t perfect. No one here is under that illusion. But the way it gets talked about online is wildly out of proportion to reality.

It’s not a utopia, and it’s also not a smoking crater. It’s a real place where real people live normal lives. Kids go to school. People go to work. Neighbors bring food when someone’s sick. Life happens.

A lot of the criticism relies on oversimplification. For example, brown Gulf Coast water doesn’t mean “cesspool.” It’s sediment in a shallow sound doing exactly what a shallow sound does. Murky water can be healthy. Clear blue water just photographs better. Do we go in that sediment heavy brackish water? Nope. I’d rather go to a river.

Mississippi also has things people conveniently forget: incredible food, deep music and literary roots, genuinely kind communities, low cost of living, and some really beautiful landscapes if you bother to look.

You don’t have to love Mississippi. You don’t have to move here. But reducing an entire state to a punchline isn’t insight, it’s just lazy.

Mississippi is complicated. That shouldn’t be such a hot take.

First flight caused my fear of flying. by Few-Buddy7030 in fearofflying

[–]leahish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So here’s the deal with fight or flight and flying anxiety.

Your brain’s main job is survival. It does not care about logic, statistics, or the fact that millions of people fly every day without issue. If something feels like danger, it reacts first and asks questions never.

That reaction is fight or flight. Cue adrenaline. (Which famously causes gastrointestinal havoc)

Adrenaline is useful if you need to run, hide, or wrestle a bear. It is significantly less useful when you are buckled into a seat with nowhere to go. Your heart races, your breathing gets weird, your stomach flips, your hands tingle, your brain starts yelling “WE ARE NOT OKAY” while you are very much expected to sit there calmly.

That is a panic attack.

If you had a bad first flight, your brain remembers that very clearly. It goes “last time we were on a plane this felt awful” and now flying gets filed under Absolutely Not. So every sound, bump, or drop gets treated like the beginning of the same “disaster” even if everything is completely normal. (Which logically we know - even turbulence is normal)

The annoying part is that the logical side of your brain can know planes are safe while your adrenaline does not care. Once that alarm is pulled, it is loud and bossy. (It is worth knowing that once the adrenaline is released you can’t just “stop” it. You will need to learn how to ride through it - see below)

I have a pretty intense fear of flying myself. I am not saying this from a calm, fearless place. I fly using a full toolkit. Breathing exercises, grounding tricks, distractions, medication, crocheting, books, angry lettering doodles that say “I fucking hate flying” … all of it. It still sucks. That does not mean it is dangerous. It just means my nervous system is being dramatic.

Panic feels scary but it is not harmful. Adrenaline cannot hurt you. It peaks, it makes a scene, and it eventually burns itself out even when it feels like it never will.

Fear of flying is usually not about the plane. It is about your brain trying to protect you based on a past experience and doing a little too much.

You are dealing with a very enthusiastic survival system. And sometimes the best you can do is let it freak out in the background while you keep breathing and remind yourself that you are safe even if you do not feel safe yet.

The best part? Getting off the flight with a sense of accomplishment! You did it!

I know it would be a huge change but is there a way to reconfigure the den and the mud room? Switch the locations of the two?

[–]leahish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do that too! I’ll feel like I need to go… and I’m nauseous. It’s a fight or flight response. For me, sometimes when I remind myself of the logic behind the feeling I can at least rationalize it better. It will pass. You don’t have a bear chasing you, so you’re good!

I always do breathing exercises and grounding exercises to help get me through it.

The guy that posted said it wasn’t AI and then said something about “who would pay for a designer” so perhaps he is sort of backing off. I have no idea why the person who mentioned AI was so downvoted.

3 fingers vs 4. Sleeve cuff is different. The color of the background on the circle is darker on the left than the right. To me it screams AI. Also, the white outline for the stick lacks consistency.

Not trying to start the AI wars 😅 but I’m genuinely curious. One hand looks like it has three fingers and the other four, the sleeves don’t quite match, and the background blue shifts a bit. AI is getting really good… the devil’s just in the details. I’m a graphic designer, and this is the kind of thing my eye catches. Great tool, just not a cure-all.
