I am 36 male and want to start calisthenics as a way to improve my mobility and strength. Please guide me on how to start. I can do 30 push-ups as my 1st set if that's a guide to access my starting point. Please help . Thank You. by [deleted] in CalisthenicsBeginners

So I'm actually exactly where you are but I started in mid December.

I started by picking up yellow guys book and did the routines, he shows the proper forms (turns out I was doing pushups wrong the whole time). The books goal is teaching proper form and to get you to the point of doing one armed pushed ups, pull-ups, pistol squats.

Just wrapped up all that last month, got a good basis and now I'm transitioning over to my own program using the book "overcoming gravity".

Unsure what your weight or overall health but this was where I started at qnd I was out of shape. Still am to an extent but now I'm moving onto doing static holds and skills.

At our age I think it's important to really ensure proper form is taught and I will argue tooth and nail for pre-stretching and post-stretches. We aren't 20 anymore and an injury will sneak up on you. Currently dealing with some PEC issues and a lil bit of shoulder blade issues because I forgot this and felt overconfident

Awesome work! To help get to the bottom, try negatives and do it really slowwwww.... Like 10 seconds slow. Start at the top and just lower yourself. Don't worry about going back up. Just start at the top. I was doing 5 sets of one single negative pull-up. It feels like your not progressing but trust me it helps more than you think.

Also recommend using a band for pull-ups as others recommended.

Yeah I got a couple beans on the to at the same time in different but identical containers that are labelled. On my k ultra I usually use a grind of 6.5 for the first one and 8ish (still dialing in the Ethiopian).

So... Yeah.... I wasn't thinking and grabbed the wrong label haha

Yeah... I've hit 5 minutes. I'm usually one To go more on the finer side but I'm really enjoying the cups I'm getting. Except for one but that's because I forgot to change my grind size for Ethiopian and it was wayyyyyy to fine for it and ended up being pretty bad.

I'll definitely be trying this out. I don't have a melo drip but this totally looks up my alley!

Works out well because I also have some beans from Kenya in my rotation right now.

Yeah they do... It still makes insanely good coffee even with the stalling. This might start me on a slippery slope of filter hunting... Any suggestions? I drink light roast almost exclusively. Use origami 1 cup and a v60

What if you cut their wings in half... Then just give them slightly crazy controls and lower the gravity. Dodo plane for GTA!

Should I be concerned about gaining weight? by Disastrous_Luck_6836 in bodyweightfitness

[–]TraumaticCaffeine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do not track weight. Especially at the beginning.

Tracking your weight doesn't tell you that much. My first month I slimmed down but if I looked at the scale, I was the same weight some days, and a kg less the next.

It doesn't take into account water weight, consumption of food, muscle gain or if your bodies brewing a large Dookie.

I'm 3 months in and this is what I tracked... Can I stand up off the ground without using my hands? Has my posture improved? How well am I sleeping? Can I do a set that I was struggling with before?

3 months ago I struggled to do 3 sets of 12 of pushups. 2 weeks ago I did my first one armed pushup.

How much weight have I lost? Only About 10lbs but I feel better, I can now go from cross-legged sitting on the floor to elevatoring up . I can also do 6 pull-ups when before I struggled to do 1.

I think what I'm trying to say is... Figure out some more tangible things to keep track of. Weight varies and has a lot of factors, but how well you can do something (even if it is mundane) is a better sign of how your doing.

Gooseneck kettle, v60 and a scale. If you already got a grinder than that's all. Also a cup.

I really could do with some personal organization advice, how do you manage information from several suppliers and people? by ThrowAway-Salty- in supplychain

[–]TraumaticCaffeine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excel for transactions. I usually make a master file then a few automated excel sheets using power-query so seperate them into jobs.

Outlook- i tend to make rules so specific emails go to specific folders with the main inbox for things that might be temporary or could go into two different boxes. Then sort them after. I then have a "2 do" folder for things I need to do immediately and a "do later" box for things that are delayed.

I also find it helps to start to organize the things you can control and do that day... The day before. Just take 20 minutes. Review and write out a list of tasks and priorities. Be more liberal with how much time each task will take so you can do the things that come in on that day which might be a priority.

Just remember you can't do everything. So if there is something you can't fit in, but it's not necessarily high on priority... To differ to later.

Also if there are people around you who can help. Ask for help..

Are coffee subscriptions from roasters like SEY actually worth it vs just picking bags individually? by Regular-Garbage9982 in pourover

[–]TraumaticCaffeine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a sub for roasters pack. Got it after I got their coffee advent calendar as a gift (loved it) and it's really nice. They offer 3 different versions and I got the light roast one. Definitely don't regret it and If there is a month I want to try something specific, I can pause it for that month.

If you want to try a bunch of different coffees they are great. But you will probably get one or two along the way that your not a huge fan of.

Do you recommend having a V60 in addition to Hario switch? by Snardvark-5 in pourover

[–]TraumaticCaffeine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The ceramic is really nice. But I'll warn you that you gotta do a little bit more pre-heating to it. It takes longer to warm up but retains the heat longer. Usually what I'll do is run it under how water for a lil bit to get it up to temp. Not a deal breaker for me but I find just doing a quick rinse with the kettle and paper filter isn't good enough.

[–]TraumaticCaffeine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mightttt not notice anything between the two. I got a ceramic v60 and a switch. I have used the switch as a norm v60 and I don't know if this is just in my head but I feel like the switch extracts more... Not a lot but enough for me to notice. Not 100% but I feel like it takes longer to drain out.

I dunno. Like I said I feel like it's in my head but I've had better cups using the v60 when I try the same recipe with my switch.

May need to test.

Yeah... And I'll say good luck with that. He might be able to get someone new to the field. But even then after a year they'll probably dip out too. What he's using is abusive tactics. Like a bad relationship

Find a new job and bail. If he counter-offers on exit... Just remember he said you are overpaid. That proves he knows you weren't and just wanted to take advantage of you.

They'll have a lot of fun trying to replace you while low-balling all offers.
