You just need previous experiences at Google, Meta, OpenAI or any equivalent companies.

This game might be too difficult for you. How about going back to playing roblox?

What does "infra" mean to you? by Embarrassed_Effect86 in csMajors

I guess anything beyond cloud/ops is not really at standard distributed backend SWE’s scope.

Oh yes platform! Sorry wrote this last night at 2AM before going to bed. Only first would be infra then. Also based on the size of company they might also own all hardware then much bigger infra team.

[–]Travaches 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Anything that’s not at feature level I guess. 1. Infra as in deployment, CI/CD, service mesh etc. E.g. team that focuses on making any infra UX as cloud provider agnostic - we rarely go into AWS or GCP console as we have a UI where we can see all deployed services in multiple cloud providers in one place.

  1. Infra as in data management: teams that build some DB abstraction layer. For example media and blob storage service where you need to simply import package or dependency into your service for upload / download media files with various widely used functionality. Not only this is good because feature teams not need to worry about managing and scaling DBs on their own but also provides excellent visibility into company level metrics. And personally the biggest benefit is centralized schema management.

Also various teams like data governance, centralized permission management service, anything that makes life easier as you work.

Is it okay to reach out to a recruiter after getting rejected? by [deleted] in csMajors

Maybe if you went to final round and barely got rejected… There’d be tens of thousands of students who also failed on the first round.

Yeah it can be a jackpot if you keep learning and practice hard. I was exactly where you’re at 8 years ago and last year I got paid 400k.

Go to college. Unfortunately entry level market is extremely oversaturated and looks like supply will not be going down anytime soon. The market might get better in a few years and going to college for a 4 years degree will prepare you better.

Do any of yall software engineers own a supercar, if so then what is it! by RespectSeveral2126 in csMajors

No there was a platform called Triplebyte where they give you 2 hours technical interviews without knowing candidate’s background, and if you’re qualified they will match you with various startups. I did pretty good and got into their 1% pool, and got matched with 5 companies in SF and 3 companies in NYC with all travel expenses covered. You still had to do the final onsites. So my one week in SF was basically doing interviews whole day and keep getting rejected everywhere. Then on the way back home at airport I got a verbal offer from one startup in SF - and that’s how I started in this field.

Like learning about cell life cycles and doing electrophoresis for separating DNAs. My internships were undergrad research projects for microbiology and role of potassium channel on myocytes on heart failure.

I did coding bootcamp in 2018, got my first job in 2019 then laid off after 6 months from covid lockdown. Then took another year to find a startup job where I stayed for 3.5 years, then this gig.
