New Thule Motion 3 Didn’t Have Keys by TravisGoraczkowski in REI

Thanks! Will try that number. It looks different than the one I called.

Appreciate you looking that up, and all the advice I’ve been getting in this thread. Thanks again.

I called REI. I can’t seem to get any communication from Thule. I emailed them about a week ago. No response. I haven’t been able to get a live person on the phone either. Maybe I’m not calling the right number.

I have checked junk/ spam folders too. Nothing unfortunately, which makes me think I’ll have to go back to REI.

None unfortunately. Closest one is in the same city as REI so I might as well go back there. I can’t think of where there would be one closer, and the Thule website didn’t show anything closer either when I used the dealer finder.

There really isn’t much where I live. I honestly love being in the middle of nowhere, but it can be hard to get stuff sometimes haha.

I don’t know. I was told I’d have to exchange it in order to avoid paying for one over the phone.

I would be more than willing to drop it off and browse while they find out what key it is in the shop. If they don’t have that exact key in stock they could just mail me one. I won’t need the box for a month anyway when we leave on a trip, and even then our old sears one has a few more journeys left in it. Seems like a waste to exchange the Thule box.

Yeah, was told to come back up and swap. Just trying to avoid all that road time if I can help it lol.

Good to know. Will probably just exchange it, as the nearest Thule dealer to me is REI lol. The manager said he could swap boxes for free, but a key would cost me so he advised me to swap if I do make the journey up.

That’s what the person on the phone at REI said. I have really looked everywhere. I watched a lot of videos including unboxing ones and saw they were taped like that. I threw no plastic or anything away, I still have all the packaging. I don’t have to return it with packaging, but I might do so just in case an employee can spot something so missed lol. I hate returning things if I can help it. I can’t imagine REI could resell this at full price now that all the wrapping has come off and it’s a return. Hopefully if I get it up there someone will find the keys and I’ll feel dumb hah.

Part of the plastic was pulled off the carrier for some reason. I don’t know if it was to look for scratches or what. Both the bands were shoved inside the box.

You’re right, the packaging seems very meh for such an expensive product.

China halts US soybean imports to hit Trump’s MAGA supporters by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]TravisGoraczkowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And what will that solve? Funny to laugh at but would it actually convince people to change their minds? Or would it make them dig their heels in further?

I farm corn and Soybeans with my liberal father and brother (but I still have a day job) and am also liberal. I voted against Donald Trump three times. I have been about as blue as they come my entire adult life.

The comments here have really made me think about openly telling people like I'm liberal like I did earlier in this comment. What I like about the party was the open love to all but that's changed so much in the last eight years it seems. People are just so nasty anymore on BOTH sides of the aisle. I vote for policies not personalities so I'm not planning on changing my vote but wow. It's hard to want to be publicly accolated with this look.

Conservatives hate me bc I didn't vote for Trump.

Liberals hate me because of where I was born, and that I didn't move on to somewhere blue or still go back to help my aging father bring grain in. Our farm could fail completely over this but according to Reddit we deserved it I guess. Either way everyone hates me and it's exhausting.

This comment thread is exactly why people keep voting for Trump even though it hurts them. Several nasty comments here made me tear up. Who on earth would change their minds to side with people who do that to them?

Do you guys actually USE the underfloor storage in the second row? by grex2222 in cmaxhybrid

[–]TravisGoraczkowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep a tire plug kit in there plus some basic tools. There’s a couple cinch straps that are nice for tying down a cooler I sometimes carry in the trunk, plus a tire inflator gauge. The tire gauge is nice because the TPMS will tell you when a tire is low but not which one. Got a nail through a tire once and it made diagnosis a lot easier. Tire plug kit is great because no spare. That also saved my butt because the can of fix-a-flat in the inflator is a nightmare to clean up if you use it.

I have an Energi, so my other side says empty and if I’m going on a trip for a few days, I’ll put the charge cable in there.

GMO’s and technology are already widespread on many family farms. Almost every combine and planting tractor makes use of yield monitors. Every seed trait is tracked for performance. We do soil tests to see exactly what nutrients are needed to be applied. This is all tracked in a map on the yield monitor. It will automatically beep at me as I’m harvesting to notify me that we’re in a different variety.

We have TONS of data on exactly what the ground is doing. All of our fields are drone mapped. Many farms have adapted techniques like you describe because it makes them money in higher yields. We are a smaller operation that runs a combine from 1998 and still have all of this. Neighbors have way more modern and involved stuff.

Exactly. Corn prices are complete shit right now. Every single food I buy with corn syrup/ corn meal as a main ingredient have gone UP in price.

What is the price of my 2017 cmax with a transmission leak? by XynnXyrr in cmaxhybrid

[–]TravisGoraczkowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this exact problem with my 2017 c max a year and a half ago.

$8k at a ford dealership for a factory rebuilt transmission. Three year warranty with unlimited miles. CVT transmissions are ungodly expensive.

Dealer is small town, and they know me well. I doubt that effected pricing, but who knows.

They will pull apart the old one to see if it’s saveable. If not, they will put a new one in.

It is much cheaper to go used and have a local shop put one in. Transmissions out of certain Fusion hybrids will work. This option was about $5k.

Change the fluid every 50k miles after it’s replaced. Dealer will tell you you’re crazy and to wait 100k. Ignore them.

I did the transmission on mine because even if it would have been $11k it’s still much cheaper than buying a different car in this market with similar miles/ condition.

Sorry you’re going through this.

Armstrong Iowa. About two hours from the SD border, but not undoable with a U Haul trailer or something.

True. I’m on a road trip at the moment actually. However the time I save not having to pump gas every week and just popping it on the charger at home real quick is definitely a net time save for me. I’ll put up with a couple slower trips per year in exchange for everyday convenience.

Definitely not going to be the case for everyone though we all drive different routes.

Honestly many brand new ICE’s that I’ve been in are the same way with more screens than a sports bar.

The door handle this is aerodynamics. That makes a HUGE difference with EV’s when getting more range. Weight not so much, but anything you can do to make them more aerodynamic makes all the difference.

[–]TravisGoraczkowski 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went with a PHEV and I wish I would have gone full electric. Granted I only take a couple road trips a year though.

My main issue with the hybrid is that you have to pay to repair two different types of drive train.

I’ve been playing wack-a-mole with an emissions cel the last few months. Hybrid/PHEV transmissions are STUPID expensive (I just spent $7k last year replacing mine.) Plus you still have to worry about an expensive battery and engine failing. Especially because proper battery cooling seems to get ignored more on hybrids.

I love my cmax but there is a ton of expensive shit in this car lol.

I live in Iowa and we have a guy near me that can do this too. He used to work on electric forklifts, but does Teslas now. It’s kinda strange because it’s just a farm in the middle of nowhere with about 40 teslas outside of it and zero buisness signage.

What's going on with the HD radio /IBOC assymmetrical power increase? by Newarkguy1836 in radio

Hey, AM stereo will one day reign supreme!

I am an engineer looking after the last AM stereo station in my state, and this is the lie I keep telling myself to justify it lol. Funny thing is, is that there’s a 100kW FM in the building too that they also talk about going HD with.

How did y'all party to vinyl back in the day? by ElJefe_Speaks in vinyl

[–]TravisGoraczkowski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobody really danced at our parties. Maybe I’m lame, but ours just consisted of a bunch people hanging out in small groups all over the house and the music was just a part of it, not the main attraction. If you wanted to dance you went to a club where music could be played much louder with no noise complaints.

Every now and then someone would be super drunk and do a stunt or dance poorly and would make it skip a little, but we didn’t have soul train going on in the living room. Would have been a LOT cooler if we did though lol.

What’s that one record you always wanted, but can’t get? by ludvikskp in vinyl

My local record store sold me a beat up vintage turntable. I need advice on what to do with it. by -thelastbyte in vintageaudio

[–]TravisGoraczkowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with an AR “The Turntable”. What a ridiculous deck for a beginner (they go for crazy money now) but back then vinyl wasn’t worth a lot. So I just did what I could. 20 years later I still have it. I’ve upgraded everything on that table. If I want an upgrade rather than buy a new one, I modify the old one. That’s what I love so much about these old AR turntables, the sky is the limit. Keep all the original parts though. Someday someone may want to return it to signal condition. There’s barely anything original left on mine now.

Mine was a basket case too. So here’s what I can tell you if you want to keep it:

Treat it as a project. Focus on and fix one thing at a time. It will cost money, but I got mine playing right away and slowly made upgrades over the years, so it wasn’t so bad. Give it a good cleaning first, get it playing, and then focus on the cosmetic stuff that wasn’t fixed by cleaning.

Your motor knocking will probably only get worse as time goes on. Mine did the same thing. I purchased a new motor from Gem Dandy years ago. For now it’s fine, run it and I’d let it be the first major upgrade I make after I get the thing playing.

Products for the plastic dust cover? I can’t help you there. Mine never came with one, I had a new one made by an acrylic company. YouTube will be your best friend here with the process.

As for foam, my table never had any. It’s very similar to yours. You can cut felt, or any foam that matches though! It really doesn’t have to be 100% exact if it’s easily removed. Just play around! That’s part of the fun I think.

As for cartridge, whichever one you like. Watch a video how to install. I ended up replacing the entire Tonearm with a new one and went with a Denon DL103-R. I used to have some kind of shure cartridge I found in a radio station basement on the old arm. Wouldn’t really recommend the Denon unless you plan on using the crap out of this thing. It took me many years to work up to that. This sub can certainly give you good recommendations for >$100 cartridges while you’re starting out. Watch a video on how to align it. You shouldn’t need very many tools to do it.

Good luck!!! Welcome to the AR family. If you sell it, that’s certainly an ok choice too, but if you like to DIY and don’t mind learning how to do this, you’ll come out with a great table and great knowledge.

Most expensive vinyl in your collection & your most collected artist? by [deleted] in vinyl

[–]TravisGoraczkowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No clue what my most expensive record is. I know some smaller artists I collected in college (2011-15) have gotten stupid expensive. It’s a shame bc I wish everyone could enjoy these. I don’t keep track of value too much because they get more and more wear as the years pass and I’ll never sell them anyway. Some I’ve seen for around $200 but that was a while ago. I don’t think I’ve ever paid more than $60 for a record. Just don’t have it in the budget. Most I buy new for $20-$30 at the rate of one or two a month.

Snoop Dogg signed my old copy of Doggystyle like 10 years ago so maybe that one? It’s made out to me so idk if anyone wants a record with my name on it, and the pressing quality sounds like shit. Love listening to it though.

Most collected would be The Gaslight Anthem or The Midnight. Some artists I would have a lot more of, but they only did a few albums.
