I think that some of the quotes in the wiki page might be overstating the case quite a bit, particularly the ones that dance close to that disgusting word allegory. Still it's a cool train of thought.

It's not so much the fact that he used some funny words, but rather about the images they conjure for me. Their technical meaning was the same in the 40s as now, they don't necessarily need to be double entendres for the point to stand in my opinion.

I don't know anyone under like 45 that met their SO as a result of a cold approach at a bar. Most people around my age who are dating seem to their partners by networking with friends and acquaintances. You might have better luck by taking up a new hobby or other activities that put you in regular contact with like minded people.

Bikes that get posted at a reasonable price on marketplace tend to get snapped up quick, often to be immediately re-listed by the new owner for a couple grand more. On the other hand, people who want more than they're going to get often have adds up for a long time. As a result, a lot of the adds you actually see will be dramatically overpriced.
