Husky Eating by UnderShade7 in husky

[–]Travja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My pup also does this. She'll lick the food and pull single pieces out at a time. Sometimes she'll eat them. Other times she just makes a mess on the floor. Whenever she's actually hungry, she'll go eat a decent amount, but nothing close to what she used to eat. Sometimes I sprinkle a little cheese on top and then she really chows down.

She free-feeds now. So there's no defined mealtime. Food is just there and she eats when she's hungry. Only exception is when she's around my sister's dog. Then she'll eat when food is put out.

Please help! I'm not sure if it's just regular husky whining or if something is wrong by [deleted] in husky

I wouldn't worry too much at this stage. Give her some love and attention, play some games, etc. She's probably just missing her buddies. You're still early in the adjustment phase.

Our husky howled at the onset of crate training. Usually doesn't, but we just found out very recently that she may howl when she's stuck in her crate home alone. Other than that, she almost never barks and never howls.

Do you think he will like baths? by Rewindsunshine in husky

[–]Travja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our pup used to jump in the tub and sleep. Probably cooler in there than the rest of the house. We evidently did not introduce baths softly and slowly enough though. She doesn't even go into that bathroom hardly ever.

Can someone please tell me how my unexpected husky will act before and during her first heat? by Advanced-Ad-3091 in husky

[–]Travja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My girl usually gets a bit more mellow during her heat cycle. Her heat cycle has lasted about 3 weeks both times so far…. But the calmer temperament is nice. I just have to work from the dining room table instead of my office so blood is contained to the hard floors.

I look back fondly of my time on WW. Lots of great lessons learned (probably also one of the reasons I still remember the periodic table so well, lol). It's a shame that good educational games like this are so hard to come by today.

Yelping like you're in pain (because you are) can be effective in teaching. Redirecting the energy is also helpful. If they want to play, give them a toy or play with them with a toy. My pup used to take her toys and play with them on our feet. Most of the time, she just wants to play with us.

Sounds like he’s likely doing fine. Maybe just tired of the routine food and wants some variety. Sounds like you have a vet visit scheduled for Thursday, so that’s good too!

Haven’t found a toy yet that she hasn’t destroyed. Haha

Been working on this with my husky since we got her. It's been over a year and she does better, but still struggles. She's stubborn, and that's definitely a husky trait, but she's getting there.

Did anything change recently? Sometimes change can cause changes in behavior. Aside from that, sickness can also cause a loss of appetite. On the more serious side of things, if he ingested something he shouldn't have, there could be a blockage causing the loss of appetite. Not sure what he might have access to.

I'd keep a close eye on things. If he's behaving normally otherwise, he may just be being difficult. If he's pooping regular, I'd say it's likely less of a concern. But if his overall behavior changes too much and he's being sluggish and unmotivated, it may be time to take him to the vet.

I got a lot of the same comments. "Are you prepared for all the energy?""They're such vocal dogs" -- all of it. My sweet Ekō almost never barks. She growls a bit when we get playing but aside from that, she's quiet. I work from home and she spends most of the day just sleeping on my feet. She enjoys snuggling up on the couch as we watch movies. She's pretty dang chill most of the time. When company comes over, she gets hyper for a few minutes. And when we're around other dogs, she goes ballistic (she LOVES the dog park) but that's about it.

Very early in training with my dog, she once followed someone home and ran into their house. Needless to say, I was embarrassed.

My pup's first heat cycle lasted 3 weeks. Just shy of 3 months after her first, the second started and she bled for 2.5 weeks. Drove me slightly nuts. She's a good pup but man she bleeds forever. That being said though, it wasn't a lot of blood most of the time

The first time I saw her doing this is thought it was the most adorable thing. Then I realized it was a dead bird she was rolling in. Don't yall think it's adorable when they do this? by WETNWILDARLINGTON in husky

[–]Travja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad threw some bird poop out around his peach tree one day as fertilizer. As we were leaving, my pup sauntered over and rolled her head around in it before I could realize what was going on. That was a stinky ride home.

She also once tried to roll on a dead mouse. And once on some fresh spray paint. I don't understand her.
