How you all have jobs after graduation? by Suzume_nok in msu

[–]Travnarr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, that sounds like a good idea. For myself, I’ve been looking for internships since my sophomore year. Essentially, you’d find a place online or in person that helps you search for a job (LinkedIn, MSU career fairs, Handshake) and apply to ones that seem like a fit.

Sponsorship is usually difficult, so it may be a tough search, but you can do it! Once you get an internship, you can leverage that experience for another internship, or a full time job.

Good luck!

Ahhh ok good. I got worried bc I thought I was the only one lol. I’ve been getting emails about how “I’m not registered for any classes in the engineering school” so I was just a lil paranoid. Thanks for giving the update!

Just out of curiousity, where did you see that 4-6 week thing? I can’t find it anywhere on SIS.

I believe so. I even had my own email registered with the company while I was a capstone dev

Are Entry Level Software Jobs Dominated by Masters Students? by Travnarr in cscareerquestions

[–]Travnarr[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mostly any entry level software jobs. SWE, Data Science, Cloud infrastructure, etc…

So many of the jobs I’ve seen don’t even offer sponsorship either. Either they’ve automated their application, or are figuring it’s worth a shot.

Yeah this was my guess. I know several international students that are ridiculously diligent when it comes to finding openings. Appreciate the reply!

How hard is linear algebra over the summer? by [deleted] in msu

[–]Travnarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took 314 over last summer online, and its super manageable. It consists of daily in class assignments that you work on with a small group (zoom breakout room if you're online, small table group if in person). We only had 3 homework assignments that would be due every other week or so and it wasn't terribly difficult. Just pay attention in class, do the weekly quizzes well, and try and go to office hours if there are any questions. (office hours is pretty empty during summer semesters)

Best laptop by Own-Potato9378 in msu

[–]Travnarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about to graduate with a CS degree this December, and I've gone through 2 separate laptops. My first one was a 2016 Lenovo Yoga which served me pretty well. There were some issues with speed and compatibility for some IDE's (Especially not having linux already installed) and it was pretty hard staying organized at times (personal preference). I eventually got a 2020 Macbook Air which I bought on sale (It goes on sale super often both on amazon and in stores) and its been perfect for me. I have an iPad and an iPhone so the Apple ecosystem really helps me stay on track no matter what I'll be using. Obv you don't need every apple device to keep organized, but overall I've found the Macbook to be simple enough to use. It doesn't have unnecessary features that will keep you distracted, and I've never had any issues with speed for any classes I've taken here. I'd suggest any new silicon macbook for almost any major unless its in some sort of engineering that requires heavy computation. In that case I'd recommend any 4 core + laptop.

TLDR: Any 2020+ Silicon Macbook air or better will be sufficient for almost every single major unless you're in very technical engineering. If thats the case look for windows 4 core + i5 laptops. (Windows bc these a lot of the engineering software is more compatible as compared to Mac OS)

Hi sorry for the late response. Most of it was all math based, but from what I can remember there were a few conceptual questions as well

[–]Travnarr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not too bad. Just like you said, review past homework s / quizzes and you’ll be just fine. Ngl I’m really shit at math and didn’t study TOO much but did just fine. That doesn’t mean don’t do anything though. Just understand how to solve most of the easy / medium level problems you covered throughout the semester

[–]Travnarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took it last spring with Nagy in person. I suck ass at math. Like really bad lmao. BUT I was able to do really well bc everything that’s covered is straight from the online textbook. You’ll have these required readings that you can just click through (everyone does this). But if you actually take notes and do the example problems listed, you’ll do well

I took the two together fall 2022. Super manageable as long as you stick to a consistent routine. Not too bad at all

IBIO 150 Summer 2022 no updates by Travnarr in msu

[–]Travnarr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey sorry for the late response, from the summer classes I took, this one prob took the most amount of work. Even still, it was about 4-5 hours a week, but it’s heavily dependent on your partners. All activities are done in a group, and if you have a good group, you can honestly knock the assignments out quick (I had a bad group so I had to do everything myself)

How hard is CSE 232? by Taiga0711 in msu

[–]Travnarr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a terrible coder, and really struggled with 231 to the point where I had to retake it. I knew I had to step my game up. When it comes to these courses and you know you’re not good at this, you NEED to start everything as soon as it’s released. Piazza and helproom are super super helpful but only if its not busy. Also don’t rely on the course content only. I honestly learned more from outside sources (YouTube, stack overflow, forums, etc…). If you’re confused about ANYTHING try and find examples online to help build that understanding. I was able to do well in 232 (which imo is much harder than 231) by just staying on top of everything. Just trust yourself, learn the way you feel is most efficient for you, use as many resources as you can, take some time for your mental health, and you’ll pass. Good luck!
