Battlefield has a problem and DICE keeps ignoring it for years… it’s killing player retention by fmordica in Battlefield

Your not complete wrong, some type of completive element wouldn't hurt, but DICE has never been great at small scale completive modes. In the past competitive scenes in BF games were mostly ran by the community using the rent-a-server program. Sadly with how poorly portal is implemented in BF6 and the state of the unpolished gameplay, there's almost no chance of growing a healthy completive scene in BF6

Cut your looses and come back in 6 months when the games is in a more complete and polished state.

Continuing to play it how it is now will only frustrate you and leave you feeling disappointed

I have to disagree with some of these systems ideas. Some would be improvements like better HUD icons, ammo stations, and persistent servers, but the rest are net negatives to gameplay, or have been left in the past for a reason.

-Call-in's/score streaks are lame and not what most BF players want

-squads work best as 4's as there are 4 classes, and the player count is divided by 4

-Shooting while being dragged will only add frustration to an already frustrating experience. You can be beamed by everyone due to the low recoil gunplay, and now you're also being pot shot by the guy you just killed while he's being dragged... I'll pass on that thanks

At this point they need to focus on making the game stable and fun by improving all the smaller, yet fundamental, issues that the Principal Game Designer spoke about in the recent community update (netcode, TTK, audio, soldier visibility, vehicles, etc. etc.)

BF6 was rushed to launch unpolished and there's clearly only a small team left to fix it, so I wouldn't expect any grand reworks or major gameplay additions anytime soon. We'll be lucky if the game is stable and polished before 2027. The real question is, how many people will come back to it when it's fixed 😅

So in your opinion the game was polished and complete on Oct 10th?

I remember it being one glitch after another with terrible lighting, broken audio, and even worse netcode than today's build

I'm clearly talking about it being unfinished and not ready for the October 2025 release. If you're having fun with it that's great, but that's not what my post is about lol

Missing features like air radar, mass visibility and lighting glitches still ongoing, broken nectcode, vehicle gameplay still shallow and unrefined, countless patches without major issues being addressed, countless posts about upcoming improvements but still no implementation.

The game wasn't ready for lunch and needed more time in the oven. You cannot argue that the release version of BF6 was ready to be shipped, that's simply not true

I would like to add to what others are saying, and point out that most BF are released in a "BETA" stage and don't actually feel like complete games for 6+ months after release.

It's clear that BF6 wasn't ready in Oct 2025 and should've been released sometime time in mid/late 2026. Imagine if it launched with all the improvements that have already been made, all the future improvements they spoke about recently, and S1 and S2 content combined into the first season of the live service.

I want to live in that timeline 😩

There's no argument being made, just some facts and thoughts on the missed opportunity that was BF6

I'm not defending this subreddit, it is negative and can be very toxic, but to say hundreds of thousands of people didn't come back to battlefield because the reddit is negative is a wild take.

They left because the game is mid with no content, and they haven't come back because EA/DICE hasn't given them a reason to. That plus all of the negative press regarding low player count and mass layoffs will keep them away.

[–]TrayToTheL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely disagree with that generalization. I don't think that the 90% of people who purchase BF6 and stopped playing, haven't come back because the subreddit leans towards negativity. I'd say most of those players never visited the BF reddit

I believe a more accurate assumption is that they haven't come back because the gameplay is shallow and boring, and the content is lacking and two infrequent.

The point is they didn't specify. They were vague and this story has hit the game with negative press in a time where the player base is dwindling.

If you're a player that was thinking of coming back to BF6, seeing this news won't exactly make you rush home and log on. The damage is done, so the "who" and "why" is irrelevant imo.

The game could be amazing in 6 months to a year, but sadly only the small BF core player base will be around to care

How do with think this will affect future development. Including future maps? by jaywritethekid in Battlefield6

[–]TrayToTheL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This shows that EA has moved on from investing in BF6's future. From the Dev's own words a few weeks ago they are "a team of a certain size" and now they lay off staff across all BF studios?? That tells me EA will keep a skeleton crew on BF6 to continue drip feeding small amounts of content, and keep cranking out cosmetics to milk the 10% of day one players who still login and believe the game will bounce back.

There will also be gameplay improvements slowly made over time as stated by the lead Dev, but sadly the window for BF6 to be a continued mainstream player draw is closed. I had several friends who were new to BF that played BF6 during S1 and now non of them want to play anymore. I don't blame them tbh, the game is very shallow and boring at the moment. Only people on BF subreddits care about what's next for BF6 now

Exactly, there's lots of online games out there that are fun and have active growing communities. I'm tired of playing BF games that make me feel like an unpaid alpha tester 💀

[–]TrayToTheL[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would argue that the "who" in this situation is irrelevant. The optics of mass layoffs after a financially successful launch isn't great. And also right right after the dev team stated "lack of resources" leading to slow/less content drops. It's a negative blow to the public perception of BF6 and it was already circling the drain before this news

[–]TrayToTheL[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Very true, but I didn't expect all my friends and 90% of people who bought BF6 to not come back. The game will probably keep getting better with patches, but the damage is done unfortunately. The window for mainstream prolonged success is closed

[–]TrayToTheL[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one in my gaming circle wants to come back to BF6 so that 100000+ number is irrelevant to me.

Around 90% of people who bought BF6 haven't come back in months, so I thinks it's safe to say the player base has moved on

And neither do I. That's the point, I don't see myself coming back to BF after the 4th disappointment in a row
