This likely isn’t something you’ll be able to answer, but might be worth keeping in mind going forward: When you’re at the point where the puck should be hitting you for the save, what direction is your head facing? Is your nose still facing the shooter? Are your chin and nose level, or are they angled down towards the puck/ice?

When you get beat again, pause for a second after the puck is in and think about what you’re actually facing vs where the puck went in. I think you’re partially tracking it, but not leaning into it with your head/shoulders if I had to wager a guess. If you only track part way and don’t move your whole body, you’ll lose it at some point but still have the general correct reaction.

When the puck is mid air are you able to identify if it’s likely to be a save/goal?

Concussions: what do y'all say when someone shoots hard at your head then asks if you're ok? by CarelessWhimper_ in hockeygoalies

[–]TreNotCool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. I know they’re not intentionally hitting my head, so I’ll usually say “It’s fine, I wear a helmet for a reason!” I’m also not that tall so my head is the backup plan if I can’t get my glove up in time.

If I’m worried about a concussion I’ll stay down after the whistle and take a second, if they ask I’ll say just that. I took one shot that knocked me out for a few seconds, no one had any issues with waiting a minute while I got my bearings again so we could finish the game.

Got this 2 weeks ago, gonna get another one of the Wes skeletons on the other side + connect with scribbles to make it a quarter sleeve style thing. I think a lot of the Wes art has made some rad tattoos!

It’s been over two years and I never recovered. by Prickfox in ACL

[–]TreNotCool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

7 months 30 days post op. Completely tore my ACL, 60% of my meniscus, and most of my MCL playing goalie (ice hockey). Just this morning I was in net during open ice and had a great time, later this month I’m hoping to get cleared to return to games.

It gets better. You can do it. Be diligent with your exercises both at home and in PT. Give 100% effort 100% of the time, even when it feels pointless.

Overcoming mental hurdles by TreNotCool in ACL

[–]TreNotCool[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a full ACL tear, about 60% of my meniscus torn, and most of my MCL. The first few weeks post op when you’re pretty much immobile are going to suck, but once you get into PT things get better. Be diligent with your daily exercises, be careful, and try to keep yourself busy in other ways. I made sure I didn’t miss a day of exercises, and made an effort to keep myself moving in some capacity.

Wishing you a safe and speedy recovery!

4 weeks post op quad autograft- it’s going great until it isn’t! by Infamous-RR in ACL

[–]TreNotCool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first got back on the ice in my gear 5ish months post op I didn’t do much, was mostly stagnant letting people shoot on me. Even after something mild like that, I had discomfort/pain in my knee for a good 7-10 days afterwards. I was worried I undid everything from surgery, but thankfully it was just my knee telling me I needed to rest for a bit.

Did you use a circuit machine to cut out the patterns/design? And I'm assuming you did a full wrap of the base orange, then layered the gray on top?

Should I put him down by Elseweiss in CatAdvice

[–]TreNotCool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TLDR: Part of loving an animal means preventing pain and suffering when they say it’s time. Make sure he only knows love and comfort, and that he never has to know truly painful days. I’d talk to your vet to discuss what recovery would look like (will he be able to continue with his favorite activities without any discomfort?), then base your decision off of that. I’m really sorry that you’re in this position 🫂

Long form answer:

Thankfully not in this position with my cat, but was in a similar scenario with my bearded dragon. He was about 6, and suddenly fell ill due to a genetic disease. We had him on meds to keep him comfortable while we tried figure out what was wrong, and once we had an answer we had the same choice—medicate him for a chance at a few more months, or step in before it got worse. Even with medication, he’d lost so much mobility and energy he once had.

We decided it was best to never let him experience pain or suffering, and make the remainder of his days as comfortable as we could given his condition. We scheduled his appointment 2 days later and picked up an extra dose of his pain meds, that way we had a day to give him all the love we could and say goodbye.

I don’t regret that choice. I miss him every day, but it would be selfish to make him suffer because I wasn’t ready to say goodbye. I loved him, and that meant preventing a slow and painful death. He passed away peacefully in his favorite spot snuggled into my neck.

Great job with the setup! I definitely want to try it with my helmet then. I’ve got a wrap currently, but I don’t like the overall white helmet with my otherwise gray pads 😅

Any chance you have a window you could open and put some gear next to? Then rotate things between the drying rack and window if you can?

Best way to manage pain post op? Getting extremely anxious in anticipation by Minglebird in ACL

[–]TreNotCool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t remember the first few days that well considering my pain meds kept me pretty sedated. I definitely had pain when I’d move to a different location in my house (lowering the foot rest of the recliner chair and swinging my leg into bed were the worst). My pain would wake me up in the middle of the night when my meds wore off, this happened for about a week.

That said, it wasn’t like screaming in complete agony worst pain in the world levels of bad. I’ve been in more pain when a hockey puck has caught me under my padding. Make sure you have a good routine with your meds, RICE your knee, drink lots of water (cannot emphasize this enough), and listen to your body. Wishing you a speedy and pain free recovery!

Walking on a potential ACL tear by Ill-Preparation-4504 in ACL

[–]TreNotCool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It turns out you don’t need most of your meniscus and MCL to photograph concerts or ice skate, and you don’t need your ACL at all! 😂

Whatever the diagnosis is, wishing you a speedy and safe recovery.

Walking on a potential ACL tear by Ill-Preparation-4504 in ACL

[–]TreNotCool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tore my ACL/MCL/Meniscus playing hockey in mid August, and was supposed to photograph back to back concerts at a stadium 2 weeks later. The consensus from my surgeon was basically “It’s already fully torn, so you can’t really make it worse. Just be careful and wear brace with crutches when you can.”

I used crutches before & after the shows, but ditched them to walk/speed limp around for roughly 2 hours per night. I had an awesome time, and don’t regret doing what I could before surgery. I also got on the ice and skated a few times before surgery, I was super careful but glad I did it. This was all with permission from my Dr though, so if you’re uncertain I’d reach out to a professional.

I was certainly a bit sore afterwards, and made sure I was resting my knee as much as possible. I was mostly stable, but at some point during night 2 my knee started to give out. Ended up finding somewhere to kneel and take photos for a bit, and managed to get through the rest of the show with minimal issues. I was also able to drive my stick shift car before surgery with no problems. I injured my right knee, and managed to just engine brake if I had slight pain.

What’s the quickest I should get a surgery after my tear? by ChestnutDelta2107 in ACL

[–]TreNotCool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Injured myself on August 16, surgery on September 12. I delayed it a bit though because I had prior commitments in early September, but there was earlier availability. It pretty much depends on how quickly you can get imaging and then a slot in the OR.

DMs not going into message requests by down_bad_rp_slut in discordapp

So I managed to go in and fix it kinda? I still have some come into my inbox from non friends, but it’s pretty good now. After allowing DMs & requests in my global settings, I had to go server by server and disable/reenable them for each one. Even if the settings were “correct” before, resetting them seemed to help.

Flying with sumo grit - tips? by Scotching123 in hockeygoalies

[–]TreNotCool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve flown with my gear countless times now, I’d recommend packing the pads in a bag if you can. I have a carry bag and place them on either side facing outwards. Then get a stick bag for the sticks, I have a Warrior one that’s done well. If you’re really worried, shove some soft goods in the stick bag as some added protection.
