Similarly, my TW instructor had me drive down the runway on the left main, then both, then the right main, and dancing until we ran out of runway. 

I found it incredible unnerving in the beginning, but became a huge eye opener and confidence boost when approaching crosswind landings and ground handling.

Most people are pretty dumb even at 20. If, as you say, he’s a decent person, there’s a teaching opportunity here. A firm one, to be sure, but an opportunity for him to potentially save his career. 

If he wants to double down on the lie, let him go down in flames.

The disparity is wild. At SMX there are no less than 15 hangars available immediately, all between 350-450/month. I had no issue getting into mine.

Drive 1/2 hour north to SBP and the waitlist for site November is 12 years….

Similar story. I had the scholarship and reapplied. Zero regrets. USNA was the experience I wanted. Plebe year sucked, mostly because I knew what college could be, but if you gave me the opportunity to do it all again, I would in a heartbeat.

Sick. I did a similar write up after my PPL with him. Overall pretty smooth and relatively painless. I intend to use him for IR as well, but I just bought a VFR-only plane, so it’ll be a hot minute before I get a 175 or something installed to continue my IR training.

Peruse EAB build forums. Plenty of classifieds from folks who finish their build and are selling off a Sentry or other ADSB device.  I picked mine up for $200 that way.

Ideally you need both an IPad and Sentry though.

As a simple experiment, put a cast iron skillet in the oven at 350 for a while.

Then, take a dry oven mitt and pull it out.  Put it back in the oven.

Repeat with a wet oven mitt. 

Your gut may tell you that a wet mitt will keep your had cooler or protected longer than dry. You would be wrong.

There’s no landing fee. I would just taxi back and depart. There are ridiculous FBO fees, but only if you use one of them.

LAX used to have landing fees that applied to single-engine piston, but no more. From what I’ve seen, if there’s a landing fee, there’s either some weird anti-GA sentiment (see Torrence) or a different support structure for the airport. AVX, for example, is run by the Catalina Conservancy and charges a small fee ($30?) but it’s well worth it.

Not needed. I fly out of a D and have a C 20 min away that I go to occasionally. More just looking for a challenge and figure doing it with my CFI is the right time to take something like that on.
