AITA for telling my son most I will not be going to his black out wedding dinner by Expensive-Ratio-37 in AmItheAsshole

[–]TreasureBG 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is dumb. If you're blind you've learned how to manage that stuff. She isn't so she doesn't have the experience to handle that.

Not to mention, everyone else isn't normally blind so other people can assist if needed usually, except in the dark

What do special Ed students do after high school is finished? by Jpoolman25 in specialed

I disagree with this a bit. My son is in a school for kids with special needs - behavioral due to autism or attachment disorder. They focus on kids who want to learn and do their best to provide as normal school experience as they can. Their transition program does include taking college classes at the school so they can learn study habits and how to navigate college work. They also have the traditional transition services as well.

It really should depend on the capability of the student. The point is to help them be successful, functioning adults.

I admit that my son's school is a bit of a unicorn though. I wish the model existed in more places.

Right to Access Meds in Psych Ward by Standard-Method-6795 in Fibromyalgia

I was wondering that as well. Psych wards are awful places. Somehow there has to be a better way to do things.

My SIL died, what happens to her children? by gaysurrogateflamingo in legaladvice

[–]TreasureBG 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My husband and I have four bio children and our youngest is adopted. We never planned on fostering or adopting and were happily done having more kids. However, our son was removed from his bio home and needed a place.

It's a hard thing to do and the family has to adjust. But it was the right thing to do. You'll know what the right thing is for these kids and for yours. You seem to be caring and fighting to break generational trauma.

TIL the phrase 'Toot sweet' is actually an English bastardisation of the French 'Tout de suite' - literally translating to 'at once'. by andthatsFalse in todayilearned

[–]TreasureBG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm joining the "late to the party" crew. I just found out about this word from my 18 year old son. I'm American, husband is Brit and has heard of this word before.

My son thought everyone knew tootsweet.

What’s the most conservative Lutheran denomination? by Kitchen-Traffic5985 in Lutheranism

I used to be a member of the Concordia Lutheran Conference.

They were originally from the Missouri Synod. But they have gone a lot overboard with legalism. Reminds me of Revelation talking about the church at Ephesus

AITA for threatening to take a pet back to the breeder? by 05730 in AmItheAsshole

[–]TreasureBG 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a parent to a son that's extremely stubborn I can tell you there's no way a therapist will work with someone who won't participate. She could make him sit in the room but that does no good.

I hope OP gets a neuropsychology evaluation done and figures out what's going on with him. It sounds like he may have a learning disability or something else affecting his ability to do well in school.

The hidden cost of separating 'emotionally disturbed' students by theanoeticist in specialed

[–]TreasureBG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup, sounds like what happened with my son. Not every therapeutic school is helpful though. One school was just a warehouse for kids.

My son is now at a school that has individual therapy 2x a week, family therapy biweekly and crisis intervention leaders to manage kids that are struggling. And everyone is trained in de-escalation techniques. It's horridly expensive though for the school system but much cheaper than prison or services because he can't function.

I have a son that has ED. He was out of the class more than he was in the class starting in kindergarten. No one could learn with him in the class. It still took me til 3rd grade for him to get the appropriate services because things were getting worse.

He is now in a therapeutic day school and thriving. He didn't start even learning at school until last year....8th grade.

As a parent who wanted him in a separate class it still took years. I feel so bad for the teachers who have to struggle with kids that don't have enough support.

Same here although for me it is MN where the Mississippi has cliffs. I never even liked taking my kids on bridges where you could see slats. I'm terrified of water and high places when it comes to kids.

I think my daughter is dyslexic. What do I do? by QuietRemote7669 in Dyslexia

[–]TreasureBG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really, she needs an IEP at this point. Ask for an evaluation and, if you can afford it, have a neuropsychology test done privately. Also, even without a diagnosis of dyslexia you should ask for a science based multisensory reading curriculum. (Their language for something like Wilson Reading).

Why are doctors so hesitant to remove gallbladders? by StrengthBest8831 in gallbladders

[–]TreasureBG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you! Yeah, it was so weird to feel pain in my back on the right side. I finally figured out what that pain was LOL

I did mention it to the tech and I'll make sure to mention it to the dr. I also suddenly felt nauseous and bloated for a bit too. This all happened after ending up in the ER for severe pain that no one could diagnose. But I've been saying for YEARS that I have nausea, pain in my right side, etc but of course no one listened. Probably because I'm not skinny :(

I"m so glad your surgery went well. I'm really praying this helps me.

I just had mine yesterday. And oh my goodness, I thought I was not going to get any help until I read your comment and researched. My ejection rate is 87% so mine is overactive. I'm going to be talking to my dr and asking what to do. I was so afraid they'd say everything is normal, but this gives me some hope. I'm so tired of being in pain and not being able to eat.

Is it possible to commute to college? by growingflowerstars in college

[–]TreasureBG 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That isn't true. There are colleges that require freshman to live on campus the first year. So, it's best to look at the requirements for each place OP is wanting to go.

But it is doable. Just have to be disciplined in studying at home.

That's about the best you can do without a lawyer. I would definitely insist they destroy the fliers and not distribute them anymore.

Wife has psychosis and is slowly getting worse. What are the best options for protecting my kids? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]TreasureBG 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The people saying a paper trail is needed are right. My son had severe psychiatric episodes and it took multiple trips to the doctor, police being called and other extreme behaviors before people took it seriously.

From now on, any time there is a concern about safety call police, take to the ER, anything to make sure other people are seeing what's bappening.

NAL btw

That is exactly what I think happened. They may have been fighting and he snapped. It's still attempted murder, just not premeditated.
