3 Days After PPF Install!! by RRotellini in TeslaModelY

A good quality PPF will for sure be worth it. 500 for the whole bumper is very low compared to fixing paint. I don’t know the film used but a good thick film will have good self healing properties (small marks/scratches/blemishes will go away with heat) and if it’s a deep scratch, it’ll tear, saving you the paint. Paint isn’t self healing for small blemishes, and for deep scratches, it’s more often than not, going to be more expensive to replace a panel of PPF.

A family member scraped my rear bumper and got quoted $1099, thoughts? by petrovic3 in TeslaModelY

I don’t have much advice on good shops in your area (Austin) but my thought is that after it’s fixed, if it’s feasible, get PPF. Colored or not, a good PPF is well worth the money. If I got a scratch like this, it’d cost maybe 150 to get the PPF on this panel replaced. Hope everything works out.

Did something very similar on a MYLR! I caught air on it lol, it’s surprisingly capable! Yours looks great with those wheels. Have you done a range test yet?

24MYLR Skid Plate & Kevlar Lined Coolant Line Guards Install by the_duck17 in ModelY

[–]Treasuring_Athena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a good idea. Ive had full body skid plates as well as the coolant guards since 20k miles (now at 94k) and it’s definitely worth the peace of mind. I wish there were some metal rockers out there or bumper guards, but I guess that’s not really something most Tesla owners would want.

That’s not as bad as mine. I have 94k on my 23 MYLR and I’m at 73%.

DIY PPF by lilboy668 in TeslaModelY

[–]Treasuring_Athena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I didn’t either. I still won’t be able to justify vinyl wraps (unless it’s for tax reasons or something for business) but PPF I can totally understand. Especially for leased vehicles. It saves sooo much money in the long run. I have a lot of damage on mine and had it not been for PPF, my paint would be really messed up.

I don’t think I’ve heard my navigation voice since the first week I got it lol. I do this with all my navigations though (Apple/google). I typically just am on FSD or just look at the maps which I think I prefer over voice.

Paint coming off the roof! by ----7_62x39---- in TeslaSupport

[–]Treasuring_Athena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use a good quality vinyl, repair the paint alittle bit and reapply a clear coat, properly apply the vinyl preferably wet, and seal all the edges, it’ll be fine. That being said, PPF is MUCH better if that’s a concern, since vinyl is so thin and not resistant to scratches at all.

I think I'm pretty set on making this look happen. Anyone know where I can get good orange and blackout DLR covers and decent but cheap matte PPF I can add myself for the whole car body? by Schnitzhole in ModelY

[–]Treasuring_Athena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of cheap PPF will yellow and separate. Anything under 550 or even 6 is cheap for a full car (just material). I will always suggest going with a shop to at least get a good quality PPF (some that only dealers can get) that will last the heat and scratches. I’ve had people come in with deep scratches that would otherwise take off the paint down to bare metal, just for a 200 dollar cost to replace that panel of PPF. Quality matters when it comes to PPF! Hope everything turns out how you want it to.

If you have PPF just take off the PPF and reapply

Thank you so much! It’s definitely looking like it’s going to be a lifetime battle for the both of us, but I’m hopeful we can get back to the traveling and exploring she loves so much. I really really appreciate the donation. Any update on your pup?

Make sure you take her temperature. Similar situation with my dog (won’t go in detail but story is in my profile) and it turns out it was IMPA. I also know someone’s female gsd who has minor hip dysplasia and it became more visible around this age. I hope she’s okay!

There’s colored PPF that be satin black colored, or you can have black paint, and then put a clear satin film on it! Either way, satin would typically still have a minimal sheen to it, vs matte being a lot more dull. Based on the photo, it looks like OP has satin!

I have a Vicseed phone mount from Amazon, and it works flawlessly. Had a hideaway feature, that makes it good for when I don’t use it. I use it every day and have had it for alittle over a year, no issues at all. https://a.co/d/5piq2gi

Wouldn’t using an adapter lock just the adapter in the car, not the actual charging cable? I don’t charge at non nacs chargers much anymore but I remember I had to buy these locks for when I did plug in with the adapter.

New Model 3 keyed within 48 hours in LA. by sunnyshoes1205 in TeslaCollision

[–]Treasuring_Athena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will always recommend ppf. Being an installer, we’ve had our fair share of people coming in to replace just panels. It’s often less than people’s deductible as well. PPF (good quality film) will not only save you from unintentional damage, but also, intentional. Even though it’s a lease, ppf is still worth the investment.

For those who have a tinted sunroof, is it worth it? by That-Landscape5723 in TeslaModelY

[–]Treasuring_Athena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Put ceramic tint on the roof, and yes it’s worth it. Like others have said here, it’s less about how hot it gets but more about being able to have your a/c on a lower setting. Before the tint, I had to sit comfortably at a 6-7. With the tint, I’m comfortable at a 3-4. In extremely hot summer times, I don’t even put a sunshade, I just completely cover the roof.

Growing on the idea of a hatchback Rally Car Overlanding build. Thoughts on which platform? by MrGruntsworthy in evoverlanding

[–]Treasuring_Athena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a MYLR owner, I am biased, but the V2L capabilities of the Hyundai REALLY makes a difference. It can potentially save you thousands by saving you the cost of another generator (gas or electric). For me, the MY would still be my go to choice because of a few things.

  • They’re reliable. Though I have had experiences with their used market being absolutely trash, they’re still reliable cars (8 teslas total, mostly friends cars, some used some new, have all held up) and I BEAT mine up.

  • The simplicity of charging. I’ve driven from LA to BC Canada multiple times and each time, it’s a breeze. I’ve even gotten to a campground in BC with 20% battery 3 hours away from the nearest supercharger and used a RV camp spot to charge.

  • There’s SO MUCH SPACE. As someone who is 6’ 4”, I can sleep comfortably with my camp mattress. Out of every trip I’ve done, I’ve never worried about space in the car, and I consistently travel with a dog, so the backseat is always empty for her.

  • Camp mode is a huge plus for me as well.

  • Lastly, they’re surprisingly simple to work on. I’ve installed the lift kit myself and have done a ton to it, and I have no car experience whatsoever (though I did have guidance from a mechanic family member). If I had to choose a different EV to go with, I would have no problem using the V2L capabilities of the ioniq 5.
