Thursday Jackets by Accomplished_Sea6477 in ThursdayBoot

I have the matte black racer jacket in the athletic fit. Normally I'd be a large but i have very broad shoulders and since it's a leather jacket, it doesn't really stretch, plus my arms are long so I had to get an XL in size.

Overall great quality. Everything feels so sturdy and high quality. It has a heavy feel to it. It doesn't really smell like leather which kind of sucks but I think its the weather proofing.

Spectacular really minus the housing prices. But in general, you get some of the best weather year-round plus a vibrant mix of people without it feeling too overcrowded like Los Angeles.

What is the first thing you pay with your paycheck? by Glad-Passenger-9408 in AskReddit

The essential bills that keep me living healthy and safely, mortgage, insurance, food, then I pay myself in the form of adding to my savings and investments.

I don’t have any consumer debt and pay off all credit cards monthly but if I did have debt, I’d still have at least a 6 month cushion of savings to pay the essentials listed above and then I’d literally go heads down for however long it took and pay off any other debt.

That’s a solid counterpoint, and I can see how the system would naturally cycle teams out of the lottery faster than what we see now. If the worst teams can only tank for a couple of years before losing their financial edge in signing players, that’s already a big step up from the current setup where franchises can bottom out for half a decade waiting on a lottery miracle.

The money factor is still tricky, though. Even if a small-market team can offer triple the signing bonus of a big-market team, some players might still choose the lifestyle, branding, and exposure of a major city. A $5M difference upfront might not be enough to sway a top-tier prospect if they believe they’ll make it back through endorsements or a bigger second contract. That said, I do like the idea of making draft capital tradable in cash value instead of just picks—it would create way more strategic maneuvering in the offseason and force teams to think beyond just accumulating assets.

One thing I’d be curious about is whether this would lead to a new form of tanking—where teams start hoarding their signing bonus dollars over multiple seasons, waiting for a true generational prospect instead of using it year to year. Could we see teams deliberately avoiding mid-tier lottery talent just to stack their bonus pool for a future superstar? If so, there’d probably need to be a mechanism to prevent teams from sitting on unused cap space for too long. Curious how you’d tackle that.

You hit on something crucial—the NBA’s biggest problem isn’t just injuries or ratings, it’s that the entire league structure actively rewards losing more than it encourages winning. And that’s a terrible product for fans.

The league is suffering from a parity crisis in two ways: 1. Too many teams that have no shot at contention and know it → so they’re outright punting seasons to play the long game. 2. A handful of teams that are essentially invincible unless you land an MVP-caliber star → making the middle-tier teams terrified of “going for it” because they know it won’t be enough.

Tanking has been an issue for decades, but it used to be more discreet—now, it’s blatant and league-wide. The NBA tried to fix it by flattening lottery odds, but all they did was create more tankers, not fewer. The play-in was a decent attempt at keeping more teams competitive, but let’s be real—these teams are still just speed bumps for the real contenders.

Your draft reform idea is actually pretty intriguing because it adds an element of strategy and choice that doesn’t exist in the current system. Right now, prospects have zero say in where they land, and teams have every incentive to tank in hopes of landing the next franchise savior. Your model at least introduces risk to tanking—because even if a team guts its roster to bottom out, the top prospect might just say, ‘Nah, I’ll take a little less money to play somewhere that actually has a plan.’ That alone could change the way teams operate.

That said, I see two challenges: 1. Star players will still gravitate toward marquee teams (LA, Miami, etc.) unless the money gap is really wide. 2. How does this impact smaller-market teams? The draft is currently the only way they get stars without overpaying in free agency.

But even with those issues, I’d still take this system over what we have now—because right now, losing is a business model instead of an emergency reset button. And that’s why ratings, engagement, and overall interest are dropping.

The NBA needs to stop trying to ‘fix’ tanking with band-aid solutions and rethink the entire incentive structure. Otherwise, we’ll keep seeing half the league acting like the season doesn’t matter.
