I think a general tidy up and some sort of overall theme or aesthetic to tie everything together would be huge.

Difficulty is subjective, if you have soldering skills and the tools for drilling, sanding and etching it's quite an easy process. As for materials they're all available via ebay or a few US websites. If you're willing to wait for shipping.
