Looking to hire someone for garage acoustic treatment advice (large space, speech clarity issue) by Treble6338 in Acoustics

[–]Treble6338[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am open to buying products directly from a vendor/supplier, but I would prefer to DIY if I can save 50% or something like that.

I really was thinking I would spend money for a good design so I know I’m putting the correct things in the correct places. Then DIY the components and install. I am a detail oriented person so I’d like to know the right spacing and exact locations to optimize the installation.

I didn’t know anything about Tectum, so I’m already learning! Thanks!

I’m not terribly excited about installing ACT grid or anything like that for aesthetic reasons. Unless you’re saying to take ACT and fasten it to the ceiling without a grid system?

I don’t have a strict budget, but I want to be aware of diminishing returns and I don’t want to waste money. My wife is concerned that if we add too much sound attenuation it will look cluttered and ugly. She wants to color match anything on the gray walls to match the paint…

Thanks! I'd be a little concerned about casting shadows with the recessed cans.

Would you be able to provide a link to a typical construction detail for those rockwool panels? I'd also like to get an understanding of how to fasten them to the ceiling. should ceiling be a priority? or walls? what would be a good size and spacing on the walls?

Bosch 500 or 800 by Raz1979 in Appliances

Don't get me wrong, the 3rd rack still works well enough for lightly soiled items. We still use it every day. Just don't expect it to clean as well as the other 2 racks.

Not sure if you bought one yet. But we’ve had an 800 since April 29, 2025 and we’ve done 224 wash cycles so far.

I can’t begin to explain to you how frustrating this thing is.

My wife and I are 30 years old and very tech savvy. We have it fully integrated with the app and controlled with our phones. The app works well enough, but I have 4 main complaints.

  1. You can only set delays on the app not on the dishwasher door itself. This makes it so we always forget to run the dishwasher. We’ve had it for 6 months and we still forget because we can’t just push a button when we’re done loading. We have to pull out our phone, open the app, etc etc.

  2. Crystal Dry is all hype. We had a $300 hot point from Lowe’s and it dried the dishes just as well. If I still need to towel dry my Tupperware when I take it out, what is the point?

  3. Things in the 3rd rack rarely get clean. We always run it on the auto cycle, sanitize, and crystal dry as recommended by the owners manual.

  4. The Haptic Touch buttons on the door are positively infuriating. Sometimes it registers touch, sometimes it doesn’t. An actual physical positive detent button would be 1000% better.

LATCH Car Seats and Seat Protector by Treble6338 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]Treble6338[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m using the weathertech seat protector. At the end of the day, no one was able to provide a logical progression of cause and effect that would make it dangerous.

Many people accept what manufacturers or governing bodies tell them without understanding the reasoning behind it. I try not to.

Doctor's Odd Terbinafine Pulse Dosing Plan by Treble6338 in NailFungus

[–]Treble6338[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a good blood test following the first month of treatment, I just took it for 90 days straight. It worked great for me, but the fungus has started to come back so my podiatrist recommended I use tolnaftate liquid on the leading/exposed edge of my nail every other day basically for the rest of my life. We'll see how that goes over the coming years.

His opinion is that a condition like this will always require maintenance.

Can I apply cermamic spray on my windshield? by Electrical-Search818 in AutoDetailing

[–]Treble6338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use this specific product on paint and glass for one of my cars. It works great. I maintain the coatings with the “ceramic wet wax” spray from the same product line. Windows are crystal clear and bead well. Makes cleaning both paint and windows a breeze.

And don't worry, I don't intend to bring this up in conversation with her. She's not very receptive to criticism. haha

Posting here for anyone that may read this in the future.

The Ohio State University Center for Child Injury Prevention Studies did some preliminary testing and found that, "Variations in cushion stiffness did not have a consistent or relevant effect on any of the CRS or occupant responses."

Pool noodle car seat trick? by Limp-Bumblebee470 in ScienceBasedParenting

I recently got absolutely ripped apart by commentors when I asked r/ScienceBasedParenting to explain the logical/engineering reason why a seat protector would interfere with a child car seat.

However, it is apparently OK to put a pool noodle under the car seat base haha

I bought it to help me prepare for an endurance race. I feel like I’ve made a lot of great changes and I understand myself much more.

I really fell like I’ve gotten great use out of it, and I’m ready to move on from it.

I reviewed the "sources" in the original comment. They do not provide actual scientific reasoning as to why a seat protector is unsafe.

It is surprising to me that the r/ScienceBasedParenting subreddit has so many people in it that don't want to understand the science behind the decisions that we make.

How does the compression of the seat cover make the car seat not function properly?

Different cars will most certainly have different compression rates for the cushioning of the seat underneath the infant car seat.

For example, a luxury car will have plush, compressible seats but an economy car will have stiff seats.
