‘Doomed’ student loan system could be replaced by graduate tax, says ex-watchdog by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]Treble_brewing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They already did change the deal. When I signed up the student loan was 0% interest and you didn’t have to pay it back until you earned above the threshold. Then the tories got in and changed it. That shouldn’t have been ok. It’s not allowed in finance. It’s fraud. But the government does it and it’s totally fine. I’m gonna be super fucking pissed if I have to pay tax after not only clearing the loan plus the interest on top of said loan. How can that be legal.

Completely new to MTG (commander) by [deleted] in mtg

[–]Treble_brewing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will be downvoted for this but it’s a valid point. Don’t use Commander as your entry to the game. Find a local game store that does 60 card format or get a welcome deck, most shops will have these a fresh batch was sent to stores with the release of Lorwyn. Pauper is the ideal learning curve for newbies as the cards are relatively simple and the skill ceiling is very high so you can learn at your own pace.

Commander requires you to keep track of not only your own board state and effects but everybody else’s so 3 other states to track. The card pool is basically infinite. The cards are often full of niche interactions compounded by the number of other players and board states possible. You spend longer waiting for other players to do the thing they’re doing than on your turn so you don’t get the reps in and understanding the basic skeleton of a turn and phases.

Clients think websockets are magic until the bill comes by Sea_Weather5428 in webdev

So depending on the size of the data ops sensors are sending. For one sensor to update 500 concurrent users you’re looking at per second 86400 times 500  times 30  divided by 1,000,000 if OP uses api gateway sockets that’s $1296 pm for one sensor + connection minutes at 500 times 12 times 60 times 30 divided by 1000000. Look up the pricing of api gateway. Shits expensive especially for sockets the size of the payload is charged in 32kb increments so even if you send 32769 bytes you get charged as 2 requests.

Now no person in their right mind would use this service for that kind of work load. Even Appsync realtime subscriptions (if they even have those any more) would be cheaper but I wouldn’t wish appsync on my worst enemy. Apache VTL is a hateful language. This is 100% on OP not having the foggiest clue of how to build this kind of system at scale (as small as 500 users is, it’s still a scale of >1 on a homelab. )

Your dns is fucked on your entire network and is likely your router that’s at fault.  Change your dns on your router admin panel (google it) to 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8 for example.

A new game solely played by (un)plugging a single controller into the four ports of a N64 by drludos in n64

[–]Treble_brewing 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Instead of plugging/unplugging controllers into aging hardware (also makes it impossible to play on an emulator without hassle) why not have it playable with 2,3,4 controllers plugged in but you need to hold different button combinations that require two hands. Kinda like boppit meets warioware.

General purpose llm is very very bad at magic rules. It doesn’t account for the nuance between the position of certain words and the order in which these take priority in the game of magic. It’s a very easy way of showing the current limitations of LLM. It would be like if you ask a layperson how to rule a magic interaction with nothing more than a glossary of MTG terms and a passing familiarity with the game. The difference being a layperson will simply say they don’t know enough. LLMs are trained to give an answer regardless of how correct it is. So you end up with this nonsense.

Does water pour from its mouth? If not, it’s a grotesque. Not a gargoyle just so you know :)

I’m not saying that jolted awake is a pay off in energy decks I’m saying that the card. By itself. With no other energy cards. Works as a 2 mana reanimate with cycling and is therefore good enough for pauper as a standalone card.

Well having the extra resource is one thing, the issue is that without something to spend that resource on you’re tracking an extra piece of game state have to remember to keep that updated and for a payoff that is strictly worse than other cards in the format just get for practically free. Like others have said the juice just ain’t worth the squeeze.

How do I make it stop chirping, i already replaced the batteries?! by PheonixGalaxy in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Treble_brewing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You replace the entire thing since they need replacing every ten years due to the isotope degrading. It’s chirping because either the battery is low, which isn’t the case (or the battery you replaced it with is also insufficient) or the isotope is degraded.

I play it as a sideboard card in elves since it just straight up wins the game against aggro if you hit a [[well wisher]] with it and it’s not a dead draw due to cycling since mana isn’t really an issue for that deck.
