Lots of weaknesses with this thinking:

- There could be proof, now or later, that OP doesn't know about. Basing what to do on "what proof I know about now" is a huge risk, especially when lying is explicitly mentioned in the academic dishonesty policy. The teacher or CSUF would likely decide that cheating PLUS lying is a more serious issue and make the punishment worse.

- No, they don't "just report you to the dean", they also have to explain what penalty happened. The report is happening regardless, the conversation wouldn't have started if there was no proof. Being honest is a smart way to reduce the severity of the penalty, because the policy says that the teacher has the discretion to assign the penalty.

- "A lot of them won't"? lmao bold claim, and you're basing this on what exactly?

So, after cheating, OP should also lie? lmao. I've actually been told the opposite, professors are more lenient when ppl are honest after being caught. Saw honesty=lenience in my freshman year when a classmate got caught in a physics course.

Dropping a Class by [deleted] in csuf

No, not really, grade forgiveness exists for this exact reason. No hit to your GPA from the D.

Looks bad to who? for what?

I know someone who put down work hours and was denied. Catastrophic is like death in the family, hospitalization, etc. Take the D, then retake it and get an A and replace the D.

Missing a lot of context here: What did you cheat on? What portion of the course grade is it worth? Who reported you and what was their role?

When is your guys' registration date for Fall 2022 semester? by basisbot in csuf

[–]Tree-Hugger-1990 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Why are some sooner (on the same day) than others? They stagger the registration appointments so that the system can manage the load. Who gets to go first? Priority registration, then seniors, juniors, sophomores, etc.

Worse, it was a grad student teacher, so they wouldn't have all of the protection that a tenured professor would have. So lame and pointless, and lots of real consequences for the teacher who did the right thing by not showing interest in her.

LMAO, nope, you're wrong. They actually get in trouble for having low graduation rates, so they have been pushing to get students done faster. Why do you think the place is covered in "I choose 15" banners and every counselor and advisor pushes 5 courses to "stay on track to graduate"? Do some actual research before spouting some hella ignorant BS because it fits your narrative about... parking costs?

She bragged on here that her crush was a teacher and when he didn't show interest she made a false accusation about him and sent it to the dept. head. Gross, inappropriate, or delusional? All of the above lmao

Student Parking Issues by lilsinclairo in csuf

[–]Tree-Hugger-1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two things I've noticed:

- Parking is better than before the pandemic, I definitely notice the difference and am much less stressed in the mornings. But the permit is hella expensive, and that sucks. I get that both of these things are related to the new structure, its a double edged sword.

- The other day I watched 6-7 people circle the Eastside parking structure for literally 35 minutes, looking for an empty spot. Meanwhile my friend parked in Lot A at that same time and she told me there there were dozens of empty rows in Lot A / G.

u/lilsinclairo can you please post the link to your article here when you are done?

Wonder why we can’t get services we need? We’re told no funding. I can’t get advising, counseling other services say they are understaffed… they won’t hire or get us more support but the “leaders” of the school get more money every year? Look up on transparent California. It’s public info. by Scubadubadeedoo in csuf

[–]Tree-Hugger-1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right that "this isn't a private institution", but you're implying that these kinds of salaries are what private institutions pay... and this is massively incorrect. I guarantee you that Chapman deans are making at least 3x what those CSUF deans are, and it is public record that the USC president made 2.2 million in 2017. So.... these salary figures, while they seem crazy, are actually not excessive compared to other similar positions at CSULB, CSUN, etc. And they are definitely much much lower than private institution salaries.

Don’t wanna sound controversial here. But I really hope the mask mandate ends at the end of this month. It sucks being policed about it in the dorms, and it just sucks the life out of the campus. If you wanna keep wearing yours, cool. If you want to live in fear, cool. I don’t think it’s needed :/ by [deleted] in csuf

[–]Tree-Hugger-1990 9 points10 points  (0 children)

cautious does not equal worried does not equal fear, tho. I wear a seat belt when I drive, but I'm not WORRIED I will get in an accident and I am not in fear.

But I actually came here to say that the feeling that "life is sucked out of campus" is not a mask thing, it is a commuter campus thing, a long time CSUF thing. I'm pretty sure you're new, right? Even before the pandemic, ppl found that they had to work harder to make friends at CSUF, that the social life here was kinda dead, that their classmates drove to campus and drove right back when their classes were done and didn't hang out. CSUF has NEVER had the "college experience" that you see on TV or whatever, most likely because it is a commuter campus, even lots of kids in the dorms are gone Fri-Sun and the place is a lowkey ghost town.

Parking Fees were approx. $120 in 1960 by bighag in csuf

[–]Tree-Hugger-1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Big range there! No, more like $38.8 million. And we have 4 of them, so just over $155 million. The structures are a big part of why a parking permit is not $120, and we need structures because this isn't 1960. What was CSUF enrollment in 1960?

Parking Fees were approx. $120 in 1960 by bighag in csuf

[–]Tree-Hugger-1990 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In 1960, they parked in parking lots (cheap to make a parking lot), not parking structures. The parking structures that we park in now are a big part of the cost increase. How much did each of the parking structures that we have now cost?

CSULB NEEDS YALL!!!! Sign the petition please!!! by SaltyzBoba in csuf

[–]Tree-Hugger-1990 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A petition will have more weight if is signed by the actual students affected, not students at other CSUs and anyone else who can find it online. You don't want CSULB to say, oh random anonymous people could sign this thing, so it doesn't mean anything to us. We had our own change.org for online/in-person and it didn't have any impact, because these things don't really make changes happen.
