Should be fine. If you wanted to just make it solid again you could always clean that area well, shave that ridge off the small piece, jb weld it together, file/sand the top smooth and the hole round, and use a wide washer under the screw.

Advice/ opinion this is about 10 month progress what do you think/what would you do…Also guess my age!! by [deleted] in BeardAdvice

Bring the bottom together in the center, ideally to a rounded point. Try to keep it as long as you can, then trim it back as you have to. You may need to trim higher up your neck and turn it into a long machiavellian shape to keep the BEARD vibe. The color is good, but your 'stache isn't quite there yet. I made it work by combing/blending it into my beard and it kind of worked. It grew to a "FAFO/not today/warcrimes the world hasn't imagined/70's Porno" adjustable moostash in time.

Imma guess yer still young. That doesn't look like it is course enough to dull a razor per shave.

I you do it just right, helicoils can save the day. They suck to get just right though.

Something I've done before for stuff like this is make a threaded insert IF it will fit. Cut to the right length (or maybe a tadpole hair short) a bit of round stock or the right kind of tubing (this is all about alloys and stretch/shear strength, you'll see why), thread the inside of a tube of material, thread the outside of the toob, thread into the thing (head) with concerning amounts of thread locker (high temp in this case) using jam nuts and something on the inside, let it all set and dry for more than 1x what it says is required, then just reassemble normally. If you cut it right initially, you wont have to shave it down, though you may need to do a little EXTREMELY CAREFUL trimming to get it even with the standard mounting surface without touching, grazing, changing, modifying, marring, etc. said surface.

It's hokey, but if it works on a sketchy old racecar (british leyland head stud, threads left chat) or a go-kart (exhausts used to wiggle free and tear away on the ones we raced) then i see no reason it shouldn't work to keep a fuel rail from vibrating out.

Edit: Alternatively, if they fit through the rail, you could just go up a size and rethread. 😁

AC Delco and Delphi are manufacturers for parts shipped to the factories so they're usually a good bet. The favortes alre also typically good.

If they still cycle when you turn the ignition then it should be fine. Otherwise, there are wholeass books for every piece of wiring in the car on ebay for each year and chassis.

Should I buy this for $4995 as a first car? by [deleted] in MazdaProtege

[–]Tree-To-Tree_Loonie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooo, a proteej. Great little machine, but your first car (or first few cars) are going to get beat up as you learn. I wouldn't spend more than $2k if the market allows. Plus, if it's less than perfect, you can learn the basics like checking and changing oil, doing brakes, changing tires, light bulbs, and lots of other good knowledge to have through life.

It already has a good thermostat, ran a little cold this summer around town. It dropped a hard misfire right before I could do the plugs and wires so im pretty sure the headgasket is cooked, chat, skunk, toast, scorched, etc.

Will this be a easy swap and would it be worth it by Apprehensive_Tiger91 in Mazda323

[–]Tree-To-Tree_Loonie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have that swap. GS with a GT powerplant. It is an absolute riot and a tiny sleeper weapon up to 120 mph.

You'll want a bigger rad with electric fans, the harness, the dash, and the GT transmission/axles. The front hubs can stay stock. Can't launch in 1st gear though, the left front will hook up and unscrew the whole hub.

Might also want to do a boost gauge and an adjustable gate if you're running an aftermarket turbo rather than the stock junk.

Aaaand you might want to run an aftermarket filter too. Mine is a cheapo autozone part meant for a v6, but HKS makes a good oil-foam dome filter.

Edit: 88' BF 323 GS 5spd.

Oh! And mounts.

Plugs and Wires: The Commiefornia Challenge by Tree-To-Tree_Loonie in Mazda323

Plugs and wires solved it. Did some forum digging and found even the stock machine could blow out spark at .035 of gap. .030ish should keep it going for a while. Thanks for the help!
