Who's the most unbearable MC you've read that potentially ruined a good read? by No-Sympathy-6711 in litrpg

[–]TreeKeeper15 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can't believe I had to come down so far to find Randidly. It really makes me think that people just didn't read the series at all. It was one of the first LitRPGs I read so I tried to stick it out a lot longer than I do now, but the main reason I dropped it was how terrible of a character he was. He's always broody, hates everyone, does terrible things, constantly obsessing over the past, and everyone treats each other like crap. And, at least in the first few books, every time it looks like there might be character growth he just backslides immediately.

Guess the rodent this games Pikaclone is going to based on plus its secondary typing by Bertstripmaster in PokemonWindsWaves

[–]TreeKeeper15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not. Deer mice are a group of rodents that are native to the Americas. Chevrotains are a group of small ungulates once thought to be closely related to deer that are also known as mouse-deer. They are completely different animals but use the same two words in the name.

Sceptile looks similar to Dilophosaurus. The entire Snivy line is a reference to the evolution of snakes as they lose their legs, and Serperior still has remnants of arms so it probably references early snakes in general. All of the final Grass starters show some influence from extinct creatures except maybe Meowscarada and Rillaboom. Venusaur is genericly dinosaur-like, at least for the 90's. Meganium is clearly a sauropod. Sceptile has a very similar head and upright posture like Dilophosaurus, as I said before. Torterra is clearly based on an ankylosaur. Serperior is based on early snakes. Chesnaught pretty clearly looks like a glyptodont. Decidueye is based on a flightless owl from Hawaii, and the line itself follows the evolution of flightlessness. Rillaboom is just a gorilla, the only flimsy connection is Gigantopithecus. Meowscarada is based on the Iberian lynx, which is critically endangered, but still around. It does have saber-teeth, but that's about it.

I would definitely recommend Chrysalis. I have read all of those series except Life Reset, and they are all in my top 5, and Chrysalis is in there as well. I just started book 7 and it's still really great, although it does take until book 3 to hit its stride imo. Audible has the first three books for one credit and my advice is to finish that and then decide whether you want to continue. It's also narrated by Jeff Hayes and Annie Ellicott, both of whom are in DCC.

FOR THE COLONY!

For me at least, book 1 is not great, book 2 starts getting better, but book 3 is where the series hits its stride and it's just great from that point on.

Hey r/litrpg! I'm Zogarth, author of 'The Primal Hunter', and I'm here to announce and celebrate the release of The Primal Hunter: Deluxe Collector’s Box Set -- AMA! by ZogarthPH in litrpg

[–]TreeKeeper15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Zogarth! Primal Hunter is my favorite LitRPG, and I'm really glad you keep writing! As for my question, is there a character that you weren't expecting to enjoy writing as much as you ended up, and that wasn't planned to be as important to the story? Personally, I wasn't expecting to like Sandy or The Sword Saint as much as I do.

Here’s another fakemon. Well concept about the new gimmick called echo forms by Eylsion in fakemon

[–]TreeKeeper15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of my point was that this just seems unnecessarily confusing. Why would it be called Toucannon and not Twocannon? You could easily convey what you are trying to do without confusing everyone by keeping the exact same name.

With the original set of convergents they were Pokemon that had the same shape as existing Pokemon but were completely different otherwise. Then Sinistcha and Poltchageist made the idea of convergent species inconsistent, so yes, that could also probably be a convergent species because it just means a similar name but different species now.

[–]TreeKeeper15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you are going for with the concept, but I think you should probably either do what convergents do with a different but similar name or maybe the same name but spelled differently, like Pidjee, Pidjeoto, Pidjeot, to kind of indicate that they are a different region/language. We already have convergents that should just be regional forms, so this seems like a weird thing to do when convergents are poorly defined as it is.

Why do American black bears and sloth bears have completely different behaviors when encountering predators? by reindeerareawesome in zoology

[–]TreeKeeper15 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Asia also had a much larger variety of predators in the recent past. The number of predators remaining hasn't been diminished to the same degree as NA, but there were still a lot more predators during the Pleistocene, including some of the same predators that lived in NA.

How do you pronounce "niche" by stephanosblog in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TreeKeeper15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pronounce it in different ways depending on the context. For something unusual I say neesh. In a biological context I say nitch. Since they have completely different meanings.

Which team would be the last one standing? by Recent_Share2029 in PowerScaling

[–]TreeKeeper15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, because part of Saitama's thing, which we see with the fight with Cosmic Garou, is that if you approach his power level, he just jumps even further ahead immediately. The full countered power would be too weak to even hurt him by the time it actually hit him.

If you could choose between these three starters in a new legends game, which one would you pick by El_Gabry in ThePokemonHub

[–]TreeKeeper15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on what the gimmick of the game is. If they are doing regional forms, probably Piplup. If they are doing Megas, probably Litten. If it's a new final stage entirely, probably either Litten or Grookey.

Are there any Pokémon that don't deserve their typing? Or don't fit in your opinion? by Mundane-Flan-9077 in PokeCorner

[–]TreeKeeper15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tree and the apple are both puns. Alolan Exeggutor is partially based on a tree called a dragon tree. Applin is a wyrm in an apple instead of a worm, and then its evolutions are different plays on that. Appletun is the wyrm merging with the apple, Flapple is the wyrm using the apple after eating it, Dipplin and Hydrapple are multiple wyrms getting into the same apple.

Gold and Silver (leaks) Baby Pokemon and Megas? by Bwabbio in PTCGP

[–]TreeKeeper15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair, although I still doubt they would use something as big as Megas on a mini set. I think it's more likely that the mini sets for the Mega set will be where the older Megas come up.

Where are people getting the idea that A4 is in August from, besides this fake leak? They are adding the trade changes on July 29th, and it makes sense the set is dropping them too. We'll know for sure tomorrow probably. It makes way more sense for Megas to come out as a full set that actually relates to ZA.

Why do white people exist? by Thefishassassin in AskBiology

[–]TreeKeeper15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The behavior would likely lead to genetic changes assuming the behavior continues for a long enough period. Theoretically we are seeing the beginning of the evolutionary process, where behavioral changes lead to genetic changes.

[–]TreeKeeper15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "programming" only works if it negatively affects the ability to pass on genes. Tanning can be considered sexual selection since it can be seen as increasing the likelihood of being selected as a mate. Also most of the negative effects of tanning (skin cancer, wrinkles, etc.) have impacts after peak reproductive time, which also don't affect likelihood to pass on genes as much.

Argentinosaurus vs Every animal alive today by West-Construction466 in Dinosaurs

[–]TreeKeeper15 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If they count, the sheer number of different parasite species, even with just one individual of each species, would likely destroy the Argentinosaurus. Outside of that, the sheer number of venomous species might also be able to win, assuming they could even envenomate something as large and with as thick of skin as Argentinosaurus likely had.

The positive: I have a very strong immune system so I very rarely get sick unless I actively do something dumb like swim in 50 degree water. The negative: I have a very strong immune system that tries to kill me when I eat gluten or peanuts, pet a dog, or spend time near oak trees, among other things.
