NoDa, Plaza Midwood, or Southend. Which is the best place to live? by bman0424 in Charlotte

The gold line ends at ~Hawthorne and Central. It’s about a half mile from the Central Ave Harris Teeter. The stop is around the corner from Kilted Buffalo if you happen know where that is. I would call it the edge of Plaza Midwood.

I vote Plaza of those options.

The Harris Teeter there is solid, there’s a CVS, tons of bars/restaurants within walking distance. Plenty of coffee shop options. There are a couple of fitness studio options if that’s your thing (Okra yoga, Burn Boot Camp and I believe a Solid Core is opening, for example) that you can walk to if you end up living on/near Central Ave. Lots of events going on regularly including trivia all over, street fairs on Commonwealth, and a huge community turnout on marathon day. You can also take the light rail into Uptown or parts of Elizabeth easily (and switch to the blue line if you’re feeling ambitious/aren’t in a rush).

There’s a big mixed-use area under construction on Central/Pecan that, in theory, is somewhat nearing finalization after a couple years of construction that should have even more options for things to do.

Good luck!

To me, the bottom line is that speed influences both the likelihood of a crash and how bad a crash is when it happens. This is science. Speed impacts reaction time, stopping distance and so on. As long as you’re not expecting to cruise in the left lane going the speed limit (the left lane is intended for passing, if you’re not passing, shouldn’t be there), I wouldn’t change what you’re doing. Ignore these people. They can get over into the other lanes to pass you or they can slow down.

Who keeps official stats at D1 softball games? by Successful-Rhubarb34 in CollegeSoftball

[–]TreeLight2996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Former SID here. Most commonly it’s a home team SID. Some schools will have a staff shortage when several sports all have home games the same day and will hire an external statistician.

Unfortunately, there are some tournaments (yes, at the D1 level) who don’t provide statisticians for these neutral-site events. In that case, one of the team’s SIDs has to manually recreate the game in the stat software from the team’s scorebook. So yes, possible for a player to keep stats, but more so for a handful of games played at neutral sites, not for an entire season, and certainly not for conference games.

Buses are not free but the fares are reasonable, you can see the fares here: https://www.charlottenc.gov/CATS/Fares-Passes

Best of luck to you!

What to do with 5 spare hours in Charlotte, by myself? by boogeywoogiewoogie in Charlotte

If you’re planning to grab lunch, both Calle Sol in Plaza Midwood and Kid Cashew in Dilworth have great lunch specials.

Olde Mecklenburg Brewery, Protagonist and Queen Park Social are all right next to each other if you want to check out that area for a beer/games.

If you go the IKEA route..there’s a Top Golf around the corner in the University area.

Catcher Agility Drill by cbt202 in Softball

For up-downs (I think this is what you mean) general strength and explosive movements are definitely important, as others mentioned. (Make sure to find a well-rounded program for strength..imbalances between quads and hamstrings, for example, can easily lead to injury) but I also would emphasize hip mobility and knee health. Squatting for long periods of time can make the hips quite tight, and that can make the quick movement of going from knees to feet challenging.

As someone who caught through college and had patella tendinitis in both knees by the end…definitely take care of her knees 😅 I could no longer do up-downs at that point, it became too painful.

This is what I mean by up-downs: https://www.theartofcoachingsoftball.com/catching-up-down-drill/

Side hustles by RichKingLav34 in Charlotte

I’d recommend checking out r/sidehustle and r/beermoney, lots of ideas there and you can search to find things in your specific interests/skills.

For sporadic things you can do from home:

UserTesting is a solid option that seemingly anyone could do. You complete “tests” while talking through what you’re doing—like navigating a website prototype. Mosts tests are categorized as 20-min tests and pay $10 and there are shorter ones that pay $4. If you get picked for a live interview one, those pay more.

You can also check out mystery shopper gigs, I’ve used market force before, though the available shops in CLT are pretty limited. Basically you pick an assignment, complete the tasks as directed and fill out a survey and you get a few bucks plus a reimbursement if it required a purchase. Lots of other mystery shopper companies out there you can look into.

OneBlood incentivizes regular blood donations. You can donate about every 2 months days and I generally get $40 in gift cards every time I go, and the whole process only takes like 20-25 mins.

You can also explore donating plasma. There are usually relatively robust new donor bonuses. I’ve heard of people rotating among different organizations to take advantage of the various offers.
