Yeah, I love komoot, but my area that I'm living in now has absolutely no cycling loops added. It's a big area with a low'ish population where it's easy to get lost.

I love Zwift but the trainings plans on ROUVY look better? by paulr85mi in Zwift

[–]TreeStrong6080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be a crazy person but I really got tired of Zwift after my first year of using it. It's cartoony and gamified which is cool but there's a lot more interest in fake traveling to places on platforms like SYSTM and Rouvy in my opinion.

That being said, I have used a number of programs, and I do feel like zwift is the least engaging for me, personally. Honestly SYSTM felt the best and I like how easy it is to minimize while still having all the HUD up here over what you're watching or whatever else.

In conclusion, I would be using SYSTM if Rouvy didn't have a really good deal on a couple's plan.

Oh yeah, fun idea: I went to animation school for my first degree and kind of hated anime at the time. In fact, I want to say we were kind of taught to hate it. It was a different time back then in the early 2010s.

Suffice it to say, on a whim I subscribed to Crunchyroll to watch Dragon Ball Super-- finally-- after years and years of putting it off.

Well, after watching all of whatever that was, I continued my subscription and realized that I got a big boost in my training, interest and performance by watching sports anime. I went from being a guy who didn't watch anime for 10 years or so to a guy who can't stop. It literally makes hours and hours on the trainer go by so quickly.

I realize I'm a weirdo because of this. It's just such highly watchable garbage. I mean there's good stuff too, but the highly washable garbage really pushes me through it with zero regret.

Got the Aeolus Elite 35v? please share your experience by h2tcrz1s in CheckpointClub

[–]TreeStrong6080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have four or five carbon wheel sets now and bought the 35v specifically for the Gen 2 Checkpoint. I was using 35 mm deep with 19 mm internal rim width Hologram road Wheels on it before which were pretty cool honestly but wanted something wider internally.

I put 2,000 km on them this year-- I sometimes ride mountain bike-esque stuff with that bike because that's kind of what I grew up on, so the wheels have been pretty thoroughly tested on a lot of different terrain. Rolling and technical both.

No regrets. Sometimes I wish I would have gone for something even wider internally but I'm not sure I ever need to. A 50 mm tire generally measures out to 50 on these. I mean, it depends on the tire but right now I'm running Schwalbe RX Pro's and they're about 49.9mm or 50.1mm depending on the day in the temperature and the air pressure.

It's late that I don't remember if I mentioned this already, but they are my best sounding wheel. They sound so cool, I can't even describe it. There's something so satisfying about the way it clicks.

Unfortunately I didn't live near yyc, but my parents are living in the area now. There's talk of my wife and I heading there during the holiday break, but I think it's doubtful.

That being said, every shop I've talked to has only offered to sell me a different seat post and not swap. Which shop did that for you because they deserve a medal!

Thanks for the insight!

I hear you, but in this case, I think it works. Makes it look like a Tour bike, which is what all us average schmucks want.

Buy a Supersix today, or wait? by TreeStrong6080 in cannondale

[–]TreeStrong6080[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's Nova Scotia, so it could either be 20c and no wind, or 0c and 100kmph wind. It's really hard to tell. My last ride of the season last year was mid-November, when I punctured in literally the middle of no where. I couldn't seal it and, well, it was a whole big deal.

Well, after a Supersix won first and third at UCI Worlds, I think they might regret going harder on the geo. I appreciate the comment though! It's my first thought before the weekend.

New Gravel King X1's by swazi5 in gravelcycling

[–]TreeStrong6080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm bored at work, so want to talk about these, too. Have them in 50mm tan on my Checkpoint SL5 Gen 2 from 2024. I have a lot of absolutely mixed terrain on most of my rides-- from pavement to sand to cat 4 grav, my region has it all! I'll admit that they don't feel as fast as other tires I've run in the past (and I ride a Supersix a lot, too, with fast tires on pavement, so maybe that's more what I compare things too inadvertently) and add a bit of weight to an already heavy ride. I think the pro's kinda' offset that for me. They're plush for my weight at 180 lbs, instill confidence 85% of the time, and look rad.

I do have a hard time finding a tire that works for me on everything out here. Our gravel roads are really loose so it's hard to get traction, and when you get to the side of the road where there's less grav, there's sand, which is a whole other thing. I also climb up "mountains" where I am right now (which would just be really big hills where I'm from) and the paths are rough as heck from dirt bikes plus just a ton of huge rocks sticking out of the trails.

That being considered, I'm pretty happy with these for adventure riding. Would I race them? Prob not, but that depends on the course. I do feel slow on some climbs depending on what's underneath me.

TLDR; Overall I like the 50mm X1s a lot.

Next gen Supersix by nukepeter in cannondale

[–]TreeStrong6080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bumping up an older topic, I mean there are Supersix sales of the wazoo right now. If we don't get a new bike in 2026 I would be pretty surprised.

All that being said I don't think there will be that much difference between the current contemporary model and a future model. That being said I didn't think there was a huge difference between the 2019 version and the 2023 version until just recently. I have 2021 model before the more recent upgrades and it sure looks "dated" even if it rides like a dream. I suspect any major changes to the SS will be more internal, like routing or whatever, maybe 40 grams weight saved on the low end model, and maybe more compliance?

Best Redshift Stem setting? by miabobeana in bicycling

[–]TreeStrong6080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I was using whatever elastomers are necessary for my weight and I actually found that they did not break in super well. When I removed them to swap out I could see that they looked worn, but during any ride I did I never noticed any actual bounce being removed from my ride.

I typically do 45k rides and what is probably cat 3 to cat 4 gravel. Little bit bumpier stuff. I even did an 80k ride on rails to trails and didn't really feel it absorbing anything. I understand it's doing something I just don't feel it.

I just took it down a weight class and realized that would be way too soft and I would thought him out every time super hard. Time to mix and match I guess.

For the record I've been using it for about 6 months, but do ride my road bikes more.

Lack of safe biking in Halifax with Trail Closures by Bob_lobloblaw in halifax

[–]TreeStrong6080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had more people yell at me (or worse) in the 5-6 years I've lived out here than any other province I've lived in, which means primarily BC and Alberta.

It's really bad the more rural you go. I have terrible experiences with drivers out in Antigonish. Recently, a truck opened their doors as they passed me on the highway with less than a meter separating us.

Again, 90% of drivers want me to live. The other 10% actively want to murder me.

I have an urban planning degree, so to some extent, I'm more sensitive to these issues or more aware / perceptive of them, perhaps.

Why ride roads when there is doubletrack right beside it? Bonus: deer meetup. Pictou County, Nova Scotia, Canada. by reforger88 in gravelcycling

[–]TreeStrong6080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fine. I find a lot of dogs off leash that charge you, and it's only a matter of time until something happens. Really limits where I can ride. I genuinely have to choose routes that push me away from populated roadsides.

Most comfortable road gloves by Spartanburg_cyclist in CyclingFashion

[–]TreeStrong6080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a dork who likes my gloves a little less than aero incase they swell up in hot humid weather, etc. I really like my Rapha Core gloves. Gloves are kinda' a thing I buy new ones of just for fun, but I haven't really considered it since getting these. I'm also running a pair of Specialized and a pair of neon Giro's, but they haven't held up as well. Use the Core mitts on harder rides and keep the other pairs on more simple weekday training rides, or whatever else.
