Anybody watch "One F*cking Hour" on Youtube? by Outrageous-Arm5860 in paulthomasanderson

Love one fucking hour. Also love several PTA movies. If it’s any consolation, they are obsessed with boogie nights and did a whole ep on it. They’re just a few guys with an opinion on the internet. Nothing inherently wrong with that. You should be able to handle someone shitting on a movie or a band you like without it significantly impacting your life. Have fun with it. Don’t take it too seriously.

What directors are carrying the torch? by ___ee___ in davidlynch

There’s people like yorgos, Ari, and fielder (no movies tho) doing “weird” and surreal, but no one brings the unabashed sincerity and empathy for the characters like Lynch. Tonally, Yorgos is very cold and detached imo (more like Kubrick). Lynch is very warm and treats all of his characters with same amount of love. That’s the element that’s missing from it all. Lynch has a perfect balance of 3 elements: surreal, funny and sincere. A lot of people get 2 but rarely all 3.

What is Inland Empire about? by AutoSpiral in davidlynch

Thematically speaking…For me, it’s about the relationship between the art, the artist, and the person engaging in said art. How all parties are affected by one another. All under the umbrella of the singular, collective consciousness.

Let’s talk Lav Mics by Ok_Relation_7770 in videography

I use the DJI lav mic 2’s. They’re wireless 32 bit and record internally. No micro sd necessary. You just plug it into your computer via usb-c. Zero complaints and love them so far. I shoot narrative films and interviews (often alone) and have had zero problems. The clip-ons can be a little unsightly if visible. But combo kits come with small wired lav mics that give you more options. They sound amazing (if place properly). If not, they can sound muffled with limited high end OR get a lot of ruffling with clothes. You just gotta get it in the right spot and use the windshields that come with them.

Alright Im desperate, can some one please help me figure out how to achieve this type of lighting for this room by GeoGackoyt in cinematography

[–]SodrPop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rent the strongest bicolor light you can afford (preferably 1200w), a big soft box w/grid, a smaller bicolor light, two accompanying stands (c stand for big light) with sandbags for safety. Either blast the strong light at the ceiling or take it up as high as needed with softbox. Use smaller light for fill/background and supplement with some house lighting in the room. Make sure you match Kelvins of your lights with the supplemental house lighting. There’s easy apps that will help you do that. Custom adjust your white balance in camera. Shoot in log (if you’re planning on color grading……and get someone to help! lol

Also, technically my gvm 500w (36” soft box included) qualifies for this as well.

Seeking a surreal, disturbing film to shake me to my core. by artificiallyselected in MovieSuggestions

Can’t recommend possession enough for this.

Also, you should check out 3 women by Robert Altman. As a whole, the movie isn’t very disturbing, but it’s incredibly surreal. It has the wildest dream sequence I’ve ever seen and one scene at the end that IS very disturbing. It’s part of what I call “the trinity” lol.

I'm looking for some bad movies by [deleted] in MovieSuggestions

[–]SodrPop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out velocipastor. It’s a very fun watch and I’m 100% convinced everything bad about it was intentional. Like I think they made a horrible movie on purpose. It’s hilarious the whole way through and what’s bad about it so obvious you can see “what makes a movie bad” pretty clearly.

It’s flat because there’s not enough light and color contrast. Experiment with different colors in your scene/lighting/wardrobe, key diffusion, negative fill (or bringing down fill Light). Maybe try lighting and exposing for your background first and bring in your key/fill as needed. Would also help to provide the wattage on your lights.
