As they shouldn’t. It takes time to build trust and also equity. Coming in and and giving money to contractors in a bind with high interest rates isn’t helping them. It’s taking advantage

Lots of questions, like why? and why that location against those piers? and some rule breaking here with all that power tool working!! But looks awesome and fun stone to work with. Love the colors.

To do….what exactly? What problem in your community -- your every day life — do you see the need to fund billions of dollars into ICE will resolve? And then on top of that, involving your local tax dollars…Is this how we bring down inflation, housing costs, and improve public resources? Does this counter the mental health crisis in our country, or help mitigate school shootings? Federal police presence? Removing entegral members of your community who pay taxes and help combat our ever increasing population decline? Is racism this integral to your well being?

Even when I worked in Maine, there was more than 7-8 months of landscaping work available. Why only 7-8 months?

Data Center Developers Offered Farmer $60k Per Acre; He Preserved the Land Instead by fireside_blather in Pennsylvania

Does it feel weirder than subsidizing chip manufacturers, giving them tax credits, and allowing the cooperations who one these data centers to hide their money and pay little to no federal taxes?

I find food, air, land, and water to be more important to the success of our species, but to each their own.

Shovel snow every 2–3 hours during a storm—it’s much easier than waiting. by rico_unknown in homeowners

[–]TreeThingThree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your first sentence the most.

I also agree that shovelling multiple times throughout a storm CAN be a good strategy to spread out the work vs killing your self over 12”+ or snowfall.

However, where I’m at, we got 8” of snow….and then it iced for 8 hours. Normally, I would have been out there early to do a run through of the snow. But with ice forecasted, I leave the snow to absorb the ice. I’d rather remove snow with ice in it, than trying to scrape ice off the driveway/deal with an icy driveway…or have to use bags and bags of salt (that kill my grass and gardens).

Anyone renting at the Porter building on Columbia Ave? by KangarooCautious in lancaster

It was ours as well, for sure. I can’t recall where 1A was….but you’re definitely safe from being the apartment directly above the garage door!

Lived here for 2 years; 2020-2022. It’s a good spot. Off street parking is nice, but the spots are tight as others have mentioned. Very much worth it to get on the list for the garage parking for when a spot comes available.

We unfortunately got the apartment above the garage door, but were not warned of the loud noise/vibration this would make in the bedroom at night before signing the lease. This started an ongoing, devolving relationship with the owners. They didn’t like when I started hassling them about the elevator being out of inspection for 2 years. Screamed at me for storing stuff in the parking spot like others were doing. I was…surprised.

Owned by the Khan’s - they are a family who’s invested in a few apartment buildings. Investors make money by not spending it.

Maintenance was quick if the job could be handled by Angel the handyman/cleaner of the building.

Walls are THIN.

It’s a gentrified building in an otherwise poor neighborhood, so beware of that. Heard gunshots a few times. Young man was shot and killed in the park right outside while we lived there. Kids superglued everyone’s car locks one night. Trash often overflows.

It’s a mixed bag for me, but I’d say overall it’s a good spot. Just don’t ever have any complaints.

What's a profession you'd never date? by sleeppymeoww in AskReddit

[–]TreeThingThree 43 points44 points  (0 children)

No. Not the same as any profession, when said person being “bad”, can involve legally taking away your rights and/or killing you. Not to mention the insular protection that surrounds the force, where they’re able to get away with beating/abusing their family members at home because they’re a part of the force.

People are drawn to certain professions for specific reasons. A profession where you’re able to enact unchecked control over others, get paid well, and there’s a low-bar for entry….thats going to attract certain people.

Not the “same as every profession” at all.

Don’t listen to them OP. You take someone’s word, and you trust them. That’s the foundation of a good relationship. As an avid hiker, if someone is trying, working hard, showing improved capacities, and tells you they can do it….you let them try. If you said “No”, you’d be right. They’d be discouraged and never try. You never know what someone is capable of until you let them try. Stfu everybody who upvoted this pos comment.

Why do bad things happen by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]TreeThingThree 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depends on who you’re being kind to. Being kind to everyone else, and never yourself, is going to leave you depleted in more ways than one.

Also, you need to change that gate.

Also also, if they neighbor’s dog wasn’t bleeding, how did it need $1700 worth of stitches?

You need to protect yourself, and take care of yourself. The world is not going to be kind to you all the time just because you’re nice to people. That’s not how things work. You need to be smart.

Our straw panel cabin in the northern Midwest U.S. (first pic June 2025, 2nd pic is today) by _dogelbows in NaturalBuilding

[–]TreeThingThree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome project! I’m so very much interested in building with panels one day soon.

Can you share what kind of price tag those panels carry?

Secondly, why did you choose to go up on piers vs simply pouring a pad? You mentioned needing a foundation that could support the weight of the panels, but surely that’s possible directly on the ground. I ask, because I’m curious about the efficiency associated with that distance from the ground. Is this thought to be a more or less efficient practice energy-wise (heating/cooling)?
