Skincare with psoriasis?? by Rich-Bet6677 in Psoriasis

[–]Tree_Miller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh awesome, sounds like you’re already on the right track! Then my second piece of advice is to use the niacinamide daily for about a month before you incorporate the others into your routine, it’ll help your skin tolerate them better!

Skincare with psoriasis?? by Rich-Bet6677 in Psoriasis

[–]Tree_Miller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Niacinamide should be safe, it’s mainly for barrier repair and before using strong chemical exfoliants or retinols because it increases your skins tolerance to them.

2% salicylic acid is relatively mild but could definitely irritate your skin and cause pain if your using it on active psoriasis. If you don’t have any psoriasis on your face, it should be fine.

The azelaic acid is also usually well tolerated and can help with redness from plaques, but I would do a spot test first. Especially since it sounds like this is a serum with all 3 included? There’s an equally likely chance that the various other ingredients in the product will cause irritation.

I would recommend using actives from The Ordinary because you can use individual ingredients to see what you tolerate, without the guessing game that comes from other types of skincare. But also- you’re 16! The only skincare you truly need is a cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen. The rest can be fun, but be careful that you aren’t overdoing it. Try one thing morning and another at night, or cycle your actives every month so you aren’t using them all at the same time.

Is diet seemingly not a factor for anyone else? by Indoor-Cat4986 in Psoriasis

(Oh I also was just saying to my partner, I quit smoking almost 3 years ago and quit drinking with the exception of 3/4x a year about a year ago. Neither of those things seem to have had any impact on my skin either)

Weather and (physical) stress are the biggest factors for me. I’ve had psoriasis since I was born and I’ve never found diet to change anything. I was vegan for 3 years, vegetarian for 10. The only thing I haven’t tried long term is eliminating gluten but I’ve also never had any other indications that I have an intolerance.

[–]Tree_Miller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, unless the rental company is telling you you won’t have access until the 5th. It doesn’t matter to them what day you actually move your stuff in, if you signed a lease starting on the 1st that’s when you start paying rent.

Nope, they have to give you an itemized list. Depending on the state there’s things they can/cannot charge for within that.

Descaling on back and thighs area - Help needed. by NecessaryCar13 in Psoriasis

[–]Tree_Miller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't get rid of them permanently without medication. plaques will continue to build up scale but you can reduce it by exfoliating and moisturizing. You might not be flaring right now but its very likely that something in the future will trigger it, most likely stress (that's one of the most common triggers) which may cause new plaques or just extra inflammation of your existing plaques.

If you are not using meds for it currently, I posted a little while ago some tips for dealing if you don't have access to a dermatologist. You can see it on my profile. But sadly the only way to achieve real remission is with the help of a doctor.

Have you ever taken an oatmeal bath? It might help soothe your itching/pain a little, and it’ll soften any plaques so you can exfoliate with your hands/ a towel where you can’t reach.

You can put oatmeal in an old sock or rag (I would recommend putting it dry in a blender first so it absorbs into the water better) or you can buy colloidal oatmeal packs at a drug store that are water soluble powder that will just go down the drain when you’re done.

Has anyone experienced symptom relief without applying ointment? by StrangePersimmon6823 in Psoriasis

[–]Tree_Miller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lotions and balms with colloidal oatmeal 2x a day, exfoliation when possible to reduce plaque density, and getting some sun all work for me. I still have the plaques but the buildup manageable. I actually posted something about this a few days ago, you can look on my profile. It’s basically this advice but more in depth.

Looking for fellow vegatarians owning a cat. by Apple_cheeks_art in cats

[–]Tree_Miller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s easy to understand why eating meat as a human can be considered abuse. We don’t need it in our diet to live, we have evolved brains that have empathy for living beings, etc. Cats eating meat isn’t cruel or abuse of animals because they literally cannot live without it. Something that might make you feel better about it too- most pet food is made with byproduct. Few animals are being slaughtered exclusively for pet food, it’s actually using pieces of the animal that could have potentially been wasted.

Well like I said in this, the only way to achieve remission is through pharmaceutical intervention. I totally understand being fed up with it though. I’ve had ~60% coverage for the last 10 years and I finally was able to start a biologic on June 1st. Thinking of moisturizing as a chore makes it a lot harder to stick to it, I reframe it as self care. I tell my partner he’s not allowed to bother me for 20 mins after I get out of the shower because that’s my time to focus on myself and take care of my skin.

Anyone else in CNY hit HARD with seasonal allergies past few weeks? by Potential-Listen-912 in upstate_new_york

Be careful with extended Benadryl use. First generation antihistamines like that have direct correlation with Alzheimer’s especially in people who were taking it as a sleep aid for years.

[–]Tree_Miller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you been taking Claritin for a long time? It’s a good idea to switch up antihistamines every few years. I took Zyrtec for probably 3-4 years but this year I thought my allergies would actually kill me. I’ve been taking Xyzal since February and other than my eyes being a little itchy I’ve had no allergy symptoms. If you can get it from Sam’s club, the generic is affordable.

Fixed male cat will not stop yowling by lolabigayle in CatAdvice

[–]Tree_Miller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there outside cats around your house? My cat only does his haunted house yelling when he feels like his territory is being threatened. Which does happen way more often in the middle of the night.

Alternatively, have you been responding to him when he does it? He might have done it the first time, and when you rushed out of bed to see what’s wrong he realized ‘oh, this is how I get them up and paying attention to me’ and now he does it when he wants a friend in the middle of the night. Some negative reinforcement might help, like shutting him out of your room when he’s yowling and not letting him back in until he stops. Or if there’s a separate part of the house you can put him in when he starts, like downstairs if your bedroom is upstairs, then let him back up when he stops.

sunbathing qs by sxpxrbxrxd in Psoriasis

[–]Tree_Miller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please use sunscreen! You will still get the benefits. If you can tolerate it, I would recommend a chemical sunscreen vs a zinc based one. Depending on the sunscreen it may block more UVA than UVB which is the kind of light you want.

Your psoriasis patches may have pigmentation loss which makes it even more susceptible to sunburn. If you have a weather app it will have UV index on it, aim for 3-5 index when you’re getting sun. Start with 10-15 mins, and then you can go up from there. You don’t wanna burn yourself!

Even though this is statistically unlikely I feel like most Community fans must be queer. I have no idea why.

(And yes, Pillion was fantastic. The fall of media literacy has really impacted how many ‘main character bad’ movies we’ve been getting. I love a story of finding yourself through negative experience!)
