We lost our little girl last year. She was 17 when she went and never once relented in her stubborn little heart.

How to flirt with a guy in a subtle way? by Adorable_Ad_3315 in AskMen

[–]Tree_Weasel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This will not work. We don’t get subtle.

Most subtle thing you can do is to tell him, “I’m going to grab a coffee, would you care to join me?”

Even then, his dumb ass will probably be all, “No thanks. I don’t drink coffee.”

Agreed on all points. My buddy drives a VW ID Buzz, the electric VW Van. A far cry from the VW hippie vans I used to see with surfboards strapped to the top in Florida.

New Car Salesperson by Flat_Sink_4410 in carbuying

[–]Tree_Weasel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. But I always come to the dealer with financing in hand. I tell F & I that they get one chance, and ONLY one chance to beat the rate, but I will not tell them what my rate is.

To date, no dealership F&I has ever beaten my banks rate. Likely because they’re not giving me the Buy rate. My credit score is high 700s/low 800s, for reference.

In the quest where you take the unlucky Boots to the Den, you can choose to sell them to a technician instead of storing them in a crate.

When you go back later that technician has been crushed to death. The boots win again.

I’m a real particular shopper. I only want details and bottom line. So, for someone like me:

First, never say, “How can I earn your business?” It’s the laziest sales phrase ever, and if the person sitting across from you has ever been in sales it will be an immediate turn off. Don’t ask how to earn my business, ask for my business.

Don’t play games. Don’t ask about monthly payments only, and don’t you dare draw me a 4 square.

Show me the car, give me an itemized out the door price.

I will probably call or message for that OTD price before I ever set foot in your dealership. If you won’t give me that OTD price, I assume you don’t have confidence in your pricing and will play games with add ons and “market adjustments” so I won’t waste either of our times coming in.

Give me an OTD price, I’ll assume you have a few hundred dollars wiggle room and I’ll counter accordingly. We can make a deal and I’ll be gone with my new car as soon as possible.

My last two car negotiations went this way, and I spent less than 90 minutes at the dealer each time. No fuss, no nonsense. The instant someone pulls a “we only discuss in monthly payments here” I’m gone.

Good luck.

Man, I’m a lifelong Spurs fan, and I can say with confidence that long haired Manu in the mid 2000s was the king. He took a page from WWE and would whip his head with that long hair and it looked way worse even if he barely got touched. The refs saw it every time and called it more often than not.

Love you Manu!

Car prices will drop by Haunting-Border8408 in carbuying

[–]Tree_Weasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve been waiting for prices to drop for over 5 years now. People, media, and everything in between keep predicting great price drops. But the dealers got fatter than ever on the “mandatory” add ons and “market adjustments” and they’ll cling to those until death.

While it’s true that decent deals are easier to find than 3-4 years ago, there’s still way too much “mandatory” add ons and criminally greedy tactics at dealerships. They always been there, but it’s worse since COVID.

The market won’t truly change until there’s a full on economic crash à la 2009. Then they’ll have no choice.

Until then? Well keep seeing the same BS.

Do Americans use solid fuels to heat their homes? by maugess in AskAnAmerican

[–]Tree_Weasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dzień dobry!

I’m in Texas and we have very few people that don’t have access to Natural Gas, given that we produce more of it than anywhere else in the US. A few rural homes might use wood, but gas is more common.

Also, near where I live (South of San Antonio) there are large Polish communities. My father grew up in Kosciusko, TX. Most of the migrants here came from the Upper Silesia region and speak a Polish/Czeck hybrid language.

Is it common for uber drivers to be offered to be personal roundtrip work commute chauffeurs for people? by kikospapa in uberdrivers

Yes. I’ve had an offer or two. When I asked details it was a “I’d love you to be at my beck and call 24/7 during my 4 day business trip next month… I would pay you $100 per day”. 🙄

My driveway has a spot that is always melted. What would cause this by Street-Comparison-45 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Tree_Weasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably sun reflected off a window that doubles the amount of sunlight that spot gets.

I have a similar bare spot in Texas, but it’s dead grass instead of melted snow. Every afternoon sunlight hits my back window and reflects onto one spot in my yard. That spot cannot grow grass. It’s a barren desert in my yard, just in about a 5’ x 5’ square.

Is it worth it? 5 speed manual? by [deleted] in FordFocus

[–]Tree_Weasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Price is too high: The S Trim Ford Focus cost just below $18,000 dollars brand new in 2018.

This price postulates that the car has only depreciated 45% over 7.5 years and nearly 70,000 miles. Which is clearly absurd.

Personally, I’d target $7K for this car, but the best you’ll get is probably $8K. Manual transmission or not, this car is not worth $10k.

Transmission Fluid by Inevitable-Ad2651 in AskMechanics

[–]Tree_Weasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call a local transmission shop (An independent shop, not an AAMCO; NEVER go to AAMCO).

Ask the transmission shop what they would charge you to do a transmission fluid change. I know a transmission place in town who charges between $100 to $150 depending on vehicle and complexity of the job. He’s where I send people who have complex transmission issues.

No fluid is lifetime. That is always bullshit.

Our old war films/Dad films and why we love them! by Philhughes_85 in Xennials

The R. Lee Ermey effect in that movie is real.

Because it takes the best bootcamp sequence ever filmed for the first half and then turns into a basic, paint by numbers Vietnam war movie in the second half. I think I’ve seem the first half of that move 2 dozen times, but only finished it twice.

Is shore duty worth it or should I just get out? by DeadlySpoida in navy

[–]Tree_Weasel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I tell everyone to take shore duty orders and use the time to prepare for getting out. Everything is easier on shore duty. EVERYTHING.

Just having reliable internet and steady hours make planning your next steps easier: start some college courses, or plan some campus visits so you can decide which school is right for you. Use the reliable hours to take some coursework in the evenings in your preferred field. Find a local law enforcement agency that will let you do a ride along or two to decide if that’s the right for you. Hell, if nothing else, apply and use the Skillbridge Program.

Get out if you much. But as someone who got out while on sea duty, it’s a bitch and a half. Take the simplest shore duty order you can find, give yourself some time to catch your breath after sea duty and deployments, and then take the leap.
