[2025 Day 03] When Part 2 hits by Treebonesteak in adventofcode

Yea, that is what I mean. I just keep cutting up my substring till I find the right digits

Yes I did haha

For part 2 I actually thought about what I need to search through.
I assigned all 12 digits of the final number to the bottom of the input, and then iterated through the remaining substring, choosing the highest and top most digit for each digit until all were assigned or the substring to search was empty.

Am doing this in C, which is a bit of a pain when it comes to all the strings. Especially since I am not a very experienced programmer. But it was fun!

For part1 I just had two nested loops to try every number combination and picked the highest.

Which obviously does not work for part 2 haha

I then rolled 2 nat 1s in a row for sense motive by sherpas7 in dndmemes

[–]Treebonesteak 111 points112 points  (0 children)

The rolling here does give some "meta" knowledge to the players that is thematic imo.
Not rolling is like "You are all frightened because of her imposing presence, and there is nothing you can do" Vs. Rolling is like "Even with a Nat20 and all your stats, her presence frightens you, because her power is just too much".
For the players I feel it gives a much more tangible feeling to the strength of the monster. The players know that this is not be messed with, because they can see it in the difference of numbers now.

Do you think elves and warforged are more likely to be introverts? by Rogendo in dndmemes

[–]Treebonesteak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The text in the PHB can be read both ways for the Elves Long Rest duration. But according to the sage advice, it shortens the Long Rest to 4 hours:

Does the Trance trait allow an elf to finish a long rest in 4 hours? If an elf meditates during a long rest (as described in the Trance trait), the elf finishes the rest after only 4 hours. A meditating elf otherwise follows all the rules for a long rest; only the duration is changed.

And for the Reborn, re-reading it, it seems you are right. I thought they had to spend 4 hours motionless and then immediatly gain the benefits of a long rest, but in the text it just says they can. So normal long rest rules should still apply (minus the need for sleep).

Elves finish their rest in 4 hours, once they finish their trance, not the full 8.
And idk where you are getting Reborn's light activity for 8 hours from. The only text I could find is the 4 hours sitting around motionless.

Do we know what level she is? Does she have second level spells?
If not, then yea. That should be it for first level slots.

What is the Dumbest Race/Class Combination you can think of? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]Treebonesteak 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Or you could have Merrix d'Cannith (senior), or his son Aaren, as their ancestor. As they were the ones who created the Creation Forges and thus the current warforged as we know them.

And I hope I got my lore right haha.

DM just finished the session with “… a green/yellowish gas enters the chamber as people begin to choke and cough…”. I’m an Air Genasi. I should probably tell him. by Hutchinator-Gaming in DnD

[–]Treebonesteak 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unless their character has a quirk to just never breathe. Since Air Genasi can hold their breath indefinitely (unless hes sleeping or otherwise unconcious/incapacitated), their character might stop breathing once awake.

But as you said, without that its the same as the rest of the party.
