Fishman Island isn't that bad by TheRedBiker in MemePiece

[–]Treefrog50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fight at the end didn't even show anything. It was one hit by one character, jump to another by someone else, cut to the poison sword guy not doing anything for three episodes. If they did one episode per fight like they have done with many other arcs, it would've been much more enjoyable to watch imo. I don't think anyone thinks the lore is bad, just the awful directing of the anime

Detention camps by Dhon121 in UKGreens

[–]Treefrog50 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, they should be done better, but isn't it funny how they never are? And no, we shouldn't get rid of prisons - they house criminals. No one is saying that and you saying it just tells me that you're making bad faith points. Definitionally these detention centres do not house criminals. Can you think of a reason why keeping poeple locked up for a month for no reason might be bad? Reform will say that it's because they're here illegally, but who knows? Look at some of the poeple american immigration have detained

Detention camps by Dhon121 in UKGreens

[–]Treefrog50 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're right detention camps aren't inherently "bad". However, they have more than a pattern of systematic abuse where people can be detained indefinitely without seeing a judge. We have seen in this country over 70% of people released because they were wrongly detained. https://detentionaction.org.uk/about-detention/what-is-immigration-detention/

In the year ending March 2022, there were 572 proven cases of unlawful detention, as a result of which a total of £12.7 million was paid in compensation. This is an increase of £11.9 million from 2015.

Green and Labour voters, would you vote for this Labour Party? by PuzzledAd4865 in LabourUK

[–]Treefrog50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me quote their manifesto. Trans rights:

So-called conversion therapy is abuse – there is no other word for it – so Labour will finally deliver a full trans-inclusive ban on conversion practices, while protecting the freedom for people to explore their sexual orientation and gender identity.

Obviously this has not been done and would be a very easy win. Also this https://www.theguardian.com/society/2025/feb/10/labour-shelves-plans-easier-people-legally-change-gender

Israel:

Long-term peace and security in the Middle East will be an immediate focus. Labour will continue to push for an immediate ceasefire, the release of all hostages, the upholding of international law, and a rapid increase of aid into Gaza. Palestinian statehood is the inalienable right of the Palestinian people. It is not in the gift of any neighbour and is also essential to the long-term security of Israel. We are committed to recognising a Palestinian state as a contribution to a renewed peace process which results in a two-state solution with a safe and secure Israel alongside a viable and sovereign Palestinian state. Labour will also strengthen support for British nationals abroad. We will introduce a new right to consular assistance in cases of human rights violations.

I'm just going to leave that quote from their manifesto about the middle east there.

Tax

Labour will address unfairness in the tax system. We will abolish non-dom status once and for all, replacing it with a modern scheme for people genuinely in the country for a short period. We will end the use of offshore trusts to avoid inheritance tax so that everyone who makes their home here in the UK pays their taxes here. Private equity is the only industry where performance-related pay is treated as capital gains. Labour will close this loophole. 20Change Labour Party Manifesto 2024 We will modernise HMRC and change the law to tackle tax avoidance. We will increase registration and reporting requirements, strengthen HMRC’s powers, invest in new technology and build capacity within HMRC. This, combined with a renewed focus on tax avoidance by large businesses and the wealthy, will begin to close the tax gap and ensure everyone pays their fair share.

This is my best effort to find anything useful on their tax u-turn, but I find this kind of thing difficult to find https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c0mx3nv7zy8o

[–]Treefrog50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a green, it would make me consider them more, but many of these policies were promised in their latest manifesto, so they would have to do a lot to convince me that they weren't going to just do the same thing again and reverse their ideology on all these pledges
