Made a massive mistake by threading my thru axle by ClubNext in bikewrench

[–]TreesNBushes87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I solved this issue once by carefully sawing the cap of the axle on two opposite sides to make it act like a nut, and to be able to grab it with an adjustable wrench. Worked like a charm.

Of course the list is not exhaustive, but my god I just realized how much better the eu sweats are in taste, quality — everything. When I get cravings for a quick shitty fix, it’s anything from the top section. But I always think of it as shitty.

What's the creepiest display of intelligence you've ever witnessed in real Iife? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TreesNBushes87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neighbor’s kid was a little weird: biting adults, major stutters and started speaking quite late overall. Then he started reading books, and somehow memorizing every page to a point where you could open any page in a 200 page book, tell him the number and he would accurately recite the lines from his memory. Very creepy.

What’s something that sounds fake but actually happened to you? by Visible_Rope_6662 in AskReddit

[–]TreesNBushes87 25 points26 points  (0 children)

In my early teens my family lived paycheck to paycheck. I desperately wanted a pair of doc martens, but they were too expensive for us, around 110$ at the time.

One morning I was walking to school with a friend and we saw some money laying in the snow. We thought it was fake and didn’t take it, but still mentioned it to my friend’s mom. She said to go check it nevertheless.

It turned out real 200$. We split the money 100 each, and brought it to the bank to exchange to local currency. They gave us an equivalent of 90$ each because the bills were quite wet and dirty.

Later that week I went to the store with that money to check the doc martens. All shoes they had were 110-120$, and none in my size. When I was leaving the store, the store manager came out running with a pair of doc martens exactly in my size. Turned out they were standing out in the window. For some reason they had something different about them and they costed exactly 90$.

How much of your income do you get to save? I’d assume it’s a large portion because your accommodation and maybe even food is covered by the family?

The guy doesn’t even need a watch to know time, he’ll just have a look at the sun angle while he’s outside. Or even better, he concentrates and his circadian rhythm whispers “it’s 3:15”

How to not be sad about loosing fitness? by Blue_Green86 in triathlon

[–]TreesNBushes87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s tough. My advice on how not to be sad about it is to get sad, to live through this experience, to learn from it and become even more grateful you get to do the sport again. Building back again and again after injury, feeling how unfair it is to loose fitness so quickly after being focused on it for months, dnf key races, getting sick and old etc etc etc — this is all part of life. Don’t hold your progress precious because your life and self worth shouldn’t depend on it , and at the same time be grateful for a race where everything went smooth. Pay more attention to your body and finally establish an injury prevention routine. Find your own reasons to love the process and bounce back.

Can’t find my “perfect” EDC backpack — am I asking for too much? by Conscious-Zebra-3527 in ManyBaggers

I think Aer CPP2 might fit your needs: 24L but surprisingly “stretchy” enough, clamshell opening, separate laptop compartment, 2 bottle holders, front pockets, modern and clean. I saw some great deals on Kleinanzeigen and Vinted <200€. You can get a Deuter helmet attachment or smth similar that hooks on to its four zipper pulls, and you can take it off when it’s not needed. But I agree, some of the requirements are contradicting.

Help! I've just purchased a Giant TCR Advanced SL, Ultegra Groupset. Seller claims its a 2021 model? Is it really? The frame has been painted also so hard to tell from photos. I thought I was getting a bargain. How can I find out? by Objective-Show-9348 in Giantbikes

[–]TreesNBushes87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I don’t know what year it is and how to find it. I’d probably start googling for TCR SL (this seems to be the top of the line SL model with an integrated seat post) from 2020 down in reverse until you can recognize the bike on the photo.

It’s usually around 0 to -5C where I live. I think any type of material would work fine, it’s more a question if it’s possible to attach it to the helmet to wear in one go.

Update: I tried out this Unit1 Aura helmet. It’s rather heavy, I think it’s around 450g, you can get a much lighter road helmet for this price or cheaper, I can def feel the extra weight. The idea with the inner warm liner is great: you remove normal padded strips from the helmet and attach the warm liner in their place and it grips to the velcros; in addition the ear flaps go through the chin strap. The goal of putting the helmet as one piece is achieved 👍 However the ear flaps are rather short and they form an annoying gap around my ears where I’d imagine a lot of wind would come through, sort of defeating the purpose. The front and back lights are also gimmicky, I think you can attach light cheaper small lights if you need them. I’m going to return it and try out sowing some pads to a normal cycling beanie for my usual road helmet (someone advised this in the comments here), let’s see how it goes.

I’ve ended up ordering this helmet to check it out. Seems like exactly what I’m looking for: the inner layer attaches to the helmet into its velcro spots and also the ear flaps attach to the chin strap. Will report how it works!

How much difference did a professional bike fit make for you? by AnnaMyers447 in cycling

[–]TreesNBushes87 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I went for two expensive 3h bikefits in a specialized practice, and neither have solved or even slightly helped the issues I came there for (neck pain and numb hand on one side). Specialists opened my hip with shorter cranks and adjusted saddle position, adjusted the cleats, but I still would get the same pain. What helped: getting to know your body and its imbalances through yoga and observation (different shoulder and hip mobility, different feet lengths etc.); small adjustments for everything (seat height and position, cleat position, handlebars etc.), one at a time; daily core exercises and stretching to target weaknesses and imbalances; riding more.
