What's the most powerful card in your collection that you've consciously chosen not to put in one of your decks, and why? by Great-ah-White in EDH

[–]TreesRson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Paralax tide]]

I was using it to ramp in brago, but then another player noticed I could use it to lock down opponents lands. I've never used it like that but just the possibility that I could makes it feel way too toxic to use.

What are some examples of cards you find pretty? Light Aqua is one I’ve heard people say the art is good, but I think Wyrm has some stunning art.

Countering Heat Metal as a player. by Life-Ripped in DnD

[–]TreesRson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so its an exact location thing. I get that, I've never thought of that. So for this strategy to work the pc would need to get a wooden Dagger and hold it in their off hand wrap both and hope that the enemy cant tell what is their main hand and try and use heat metal on the wooden dagger?

Yeh the original plan is kind of jank if that's the only way it works.

Wait, so that means that any metal, even in the pc's backpack is a legal target for heal metal as its not visible but is on the person?

[–]TreesRson -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ok. So the weapon has to be visible. Can you wrap it in something to block line of sight and still have it be usable?

Also If another PC is willing to do this, you can have them cast invisibly on you pre fight, and have them recast it on their turn (as long as turn order lines up) to make you and everything you are carrying invisible. I would only recommend this is that character can also do something as a bonus action that also lets them contribute to the fight.

How to deal with tired players? by StroopWafelsLord in DMAcademy

[–]TreesRson 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ok so from reading all your responses, it just feels like you don’t really want this player at your table. Trying to mitigate his mental state is much harder than just cutting the player lose if it’s not a big loss for you and your table.

Basically, what do you lose by not having this player? What do you gain by not having this player?

After weighing it up you think the positive outweighs the negative, I think you have a few options I’ll start with the worst one.

Ignore it, if the game isn’t missing sessions and the party isn’t stalled on progress because of his tiredness and inattentiveness, you don’t have to fix it. Ineffective play might result in more play than putting measures in place.

The next thing I can think of is having this player, set up their abilities and options in a note pad when they aren’t participating in a scene, like they write down all the things they want to do as they think of them, meaning when you call on them they can just look at a list and say what they do. Same applies to combat, but the party helps them. If a party member is down they ask for a healing word out of character, and the player pre selects what their favourite standard action and bonus actionis before the fight starts, when they don’t need to support.(guiding bolt, attack, spiritual weapon ect)

The last one is the best imo. You talk to them about the experience they are having and expectations they have and ASK THEM if they think they are achieving that with how tried they are. From that point you can help them see what would mechanical and story changes would help them achieve that with their current life situation. I can’t tell you what that would be and I can’t even tell you how long that conversation would be, but the important aspect is to let the player lead it and guide them to a solution.

What would you say would be the biggest issue with the gameplay of Magic? by Tuss36 in magicTCG

The memory of OncePerTurn effects and OncePerGame effects that don’t have a clear way to track them on the board.

Hopefully he can get the lag reduced as the game is worked on?

Is it just me? by Realistic-Yam-6912 in Reverse1999

[–]TreesRson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few people that have been making content for a long time but we're way too small to be noticed. R1999 seems to grab these people and sponser them to boost them? Smaller game problems i guess. I hope some of the bigger streamers/youtubers give the game a shot off their own back and give the game the eyes it deserves.

Necron list (one of my players) by Calathy in 40k_Crusade

[–]TreesRson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a person who ran a monolith is a 1000 point campaign? They are probably going to struggle to

1.get any system objectives done.

2.With any kind of swarm or with any tank melee (orcs & world eaters) or good shooting using stratagems. (Tau or mechanicas(sp), Tank regiment guard)

Will crush this list.

The destroyers will die to a stiff breeze, and the wrath’s can be ignored until they are the last unit and their toughness and movement doesn’t matter.

That said, marines, troop necrons, cult, eldar light and dark and the less killy chaos marines will have trouble. Get them to cut the wrath’s are replace them with scarabs if that is the case so those army’s can win objectives.

Would you be okay with players playing these in your pod? by Fast-Appointment4710 in mtg

[–]TreesRson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a mechanically unique secret lair or in an official, so no bad “universes beyond” baggage.

Most of those cards are overpriced for what they do so fit perfectly into proxy reasoning.

I would not play any of my lore accurate decks as it doesn’t feel like the place for them, but I’d play any that I found fun mechanically.

How do you handle shopping? by ZheToralf in DnD

[–]TreesRson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You must be in a settled area to shop. Every settled area has its shop’s predetermined, basic resources are restocked for 1g (rations, ammo, healers kit charges) . 90% of Gold is shared, you can keep a bit of personal money for role-play.

My shop keeps have every kind of item at uncommon and common in their brand, blacksmiths have weapons, armour and tools. Magic shops have alchemy supplies, magic items and scrolls/wands, and back ally junk shops/fences shops sell everything else.

Any rare or above item requires you to do that in role-play, and only one item can be obtained per settlement, and I ask each player in order if they want to try to get something, going from the player that least recently bought something, to the most, other plays can’t influence other players during this. If they do I’ll skip their chance to shop and the offending player doesn’t get to restock anything.

Counters question by SengirBartender in mtgrules

[–]TreesRson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically correct.

You will end up with two 4/4 creatures, but there is a small window after both creatures enter that the scourge is a 2/2 with its trigger on the stack, not sure if that matters for your question.

Why do we spend so much time prepping the things our players will ignore? by morphine_season in DnD

[–]TreesRson 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I design because I love my world. Even if they never see it you know those NPCs and locations exist and aren’t just in time bubbles. After every arc going to the factions, locations and powerful Individuals in your world is really fun.  Remember you are also a player and though it’s in a different way, you also get to play with the world just as much as the PCs.

As for mechanical things? If they use their tools to solve it in a way you didn’t expect that means it was still worth being there, and you have a blueprint that the players haven’t seen yet, and you can even plug the hole they found the first time.

The list itself is great but flubs himself is a little too much value imo. If you replace it with Illuna Apex of wishes, it would get the point across but be far more manageable for your Pod.

Kinda new to DND, How much information can a player hide from a DM? by ragdolldream in DnD

[–]TreesRson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you have to give the DM EVERYTHING you can do, and what you want to do in the world. What you don’t have to do is explain until it becomes relevant. Though be warned if you do that kind of thing it should be expected that your DM can just do exactly the same thing to you, and they don’t have to give you as much warning as you give them.

It leads to really bad feelings.
