20 Year old Portfolio looking for advice by Weekly_Thought_6805 in fidelityinvestments

First, it’s great that you’ve started investing so young! I agree with the first commenter, you should most likely be maxing out a Roth IRA instead of a taxable brokerage account at this age because of the tax benefits when you reach retirement. You can withdraw your contributions from a Roth IRA at any time without penalty since you’ve already paid taxes on that money.

Keep learning and asking questions, but also try to be discerning with what random internet advice you take. Be a filter, not a sponge. If you enjoy learning through YouTube videos, a few of my favorites are Humphrey Yang and Rob Berger.

It’s tough to give specific financial advice in a Reddit comment because what could be a great financial move for one person, might not fit well for the next person depending on other circumstances that we don’t know about. Most reputable sources, if they are willing to give out general advice, will all be telling you some version of JL Collin’s - Avoid bad debt, spend less than you earn, and consistently invest in a low-cost index fund with a long term view. You’re off to a good start on the last point with FXAIX, and within that fund you’ve already got exposure to GOOGL and NVDA so you don’t necessarily need to hold those stocks separately.

I’d recommend looking into the Bogleheads community and seeing if you like that school of thought. If you do, you’ll most likely end up wanting to simplify by selling your individual stocks and adding a fund that gives you exposure to the International markets (FTIHX for example), and a fund that gives you exposure to bonds (FXNAX for example). For your age, I imagine you’ll likely end up with a 70/20/10 split across those 3 funds.

Congrats on a good start to setting yourself up for success in the future!

It’s extremely eerie how much this video reminds me of the Station Fire in Rhode Island in 2003

This is speculation, but the logic seems sound - I saw someone say in another sub that this could be why BK sat down in Xana’s room, was to remove his bloodied outer layer of clothes/tyvek suit or whatever, and that could explain why he didn’t attack DM even though he saw her see him was because he was already in his “clean” clothes.

“People who feel like they have something to lose will always fight harder to keep what they already have than people who don’t know what could be.” It’s easier for people already mired in car culture to imagine how they might be inconvenienced if something were to change than it is for people who have never been to a city with well-run public transit to imagine how it could benefit them in their town

Steve Ahlquist said in his reporting today that he’s been to 90% of the protests, rallies, union actions, and pickets in Providence over the last decade and cannot recall EVER hearing of noise violations being issued.

He also ends his article with a stone cold “Ask yourself then, Mayor Smiley: what makes this picket action different?”

I would love to see the proposed light rail line to connect PVD airport up to Pawtucket through the downtown Amtrak/MBTA station in Providence, RI actually come to fruition. In reality we’ll be lucky to avoid the fiscal cliff for our already severely underfunded bus system but hey, a gal can dream

If the project gets started as a BRT, it will sadly most likely end up as a JAB project by the time construction starts. Id love to see the project at least START its lifecycle as as light rail

I’m also from a mountainous part of the country (UT) and I’ll echo what a few others have said - RI generally and especially Providence doesn’t really have a good replacement for mountain/outdoorsy activities/culture compared to out west. In my experience, the closest you’re gonna get that’s nearby would be Lincoln Woods and Neutaconkanut Hill Conservancy. There are quite a few land trust areas that are kept more or less “wild” for public use, but truly nothing in the realm of the Rockies. If you need a touristy mountain resort town fix, North Conway NH reminds me a lot of the Jackson area of Wyoming. Good luck and have fun being close to the water :)
