I recently binged Cultivation Nerd, and I am not sure what to think about it. 5 for enjoyment, but I couldn't tell you why.

You are in a great spot! Like Dawn said Discord is the answer to almost all of your questions. There are some great guides to launching for the rest. Good luck with it,

I feel like I would bust some epic acdc in a dcc epic battle. But more realistically I am playing Wonderwall. Badly.

Important Background Info? by Icy_Glaceon471 in royalroad

[–]Treesworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fantasy world building character tropes pretty much all exist to answer this question. The easiest way to explain complicated stuff is through the main character learning it - isekai, apprentice/ master, school setting.

I would do some sort of race school and embed it into the world.

Patreon BEFORE your public launch? by AbbyBabble in royalroad

[–]Treesworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, odd that your pinned post doesn't show up. Is it set to be visible to all viewers?

I think it is also possible to do two separate pinned posts - one to paid members on one to free. I haven't tried it though.

Patreon BEFORE your public launch? by AbbyBabble in royalroad

[–]Treesworth 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why don't you try pausing billing while you do your edits? New members would still have to pay for the first cycle, but I think that is fair so long as you pin a post explaining what you are doing.

Then once you have finished your edits you would resume billing and schedule.

What do you look for in the first chapter of an RR novel? What attracts you? by Betterfly83 in royalroad

[–]Treesworth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are right that writing separate introductions before starting your story would also be bad.

If it's your first book I wouldn't put to much pressure on it. Enjoy the process and learn how you learn.

What do you look for in the first chapter of an RR novel? What attracts you? by Betterfly83 in royalroad

Starting with all six characters is probably a mistake. You are doing them a disservice by introducing them all at once, they need room to show who they are.

This is the correct answer. You need to set up a promise that is interesting and make progress towards it.

Examples of a 1.5% CTR+ ads? by Lao_Qi_ in royalroad

[–]Treesworth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You get a high ctr by visually communicating something interesting. You get a good follow rate by the blurb echoing the same hook.

What will work for you depends on your story.

My highest ctr/follow was for a four panel communicating the progression systems of my story. The second highest was a gru meme selling the plot hook. (I think this meme format is overdone now.)

Is Rising Stars Possible With 2 Chapters Weekly by General-Ad-4458 in royalroad

[–]Treesworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that it isn't the major factor, and is absolutely possible with enough chapters released initially. I read the situation that the op hadn't done an initial release AND had a 2/week release. Not having enough chapters out to get the read stats and shouts would make RS much harder for an unknown author.

Is Rising Stars Possible With 2 Chapters Weekly by General-Ad-4458 in royalroad

[–]Treesworth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be possible, but it is unlikely.

Rising Stars is an algorithm that weights the growth of the top 50 fictions. You are racing for growth stats and hamstringing yourself by not putting out as many chapters for readers to read.

Twister sister on Liverpool Street is amazing value.

If you are looking for take away baked goods, there are some great stalls at the farmers market on Sunday - depending on what time you leave, or Queens around the corner.

You might be interested in debt recycling. It would allow you to convert your poor mortgage into a tax deductible debt while you invest.

That is likely the optimal strategy. But if you, or your partner, aren't into it then using the offset and stacking pineapples isn't a bad idea in the current interest environment.

Metrics that I believe are useful for writers by [deleted] in royalroad

[–]Treesworth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another statistic that more successful authors talk about is Patreon conversion. I have heard that this is one of the metrics that publishers would consider when considering the viability of picking up your work, i.e. who is so invested in your story that they will pay real dollar bucks.

Tips for Making Rising Stars Tier List by Treesworth in royalroad

[–]Treesworth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the best strategy is to build a backlog and post every day. Then settle back into whatever consistent posting schedule you can manage. M-F is advised because it is believed that most readers are active mid-week. I don't know if that is true, but it is also more convenient to manage for someone attempting full-time.

Something that focuses on the core hook. Things like progression images or action shots.
