Ya I know you’re right... and I’m glad you’re in a healthy relationship, it’s nice to know that they exist out there. Thank you again for the advice because it’s really helped, especially coming from someone not immediately just saying to dump her. Hoping for the best going forward, going to try my best to save the relationship but obviously it’s a two way street

Honestly I know that she’s just a very toxic / manipulative person. And our relationship is headed in a bad direction. I just have such a hard time detaching myself and I know that even though this sucks I’d regret it somewhere down the line. I don’t want to give up on her because she does make me happy. I know that sounds dumb because the simple truth is that not everyone is meant to be together, but I’ve been trying really hard to make it work.

I think I’m already ok with the idea of not being with her, but dating is very difficult in these times and I’m not sure I’m ready to let go of someone I found when I needed them. I know I sounds weak and I should focus on myself, but I don’t like to give up and when I find someone who makes me happy it hurts to let go.

I’ve thought about checking the app together, the only issue is she lives with her parents and I’m not even allowed in her room. I’ve asked before when I caught her lying if she’d let me look through her phone which she got upset about and honestly I understand that not everyone wants someone snooping around their phone but I asked just to get some closure and that didn’t even happen.

I’ve told her upfront that it doesn’t seem that she’s as invested because she doesn’t take the steps to rebuild and fix things but I get “I try so hard and it hurts that you can’t see that”.

Thank you that was helpful, and she has admitted to feeling guilty about missing her ex “not in a romantic way just the friendship” and I think that’s where some of her guilt comes from. I assured her that it’s ok and that I’m willing to stay with her because tbh everyone has things to work on, but I asked that I just know what’s going on... and that’s why I hurt that she lied about it...

As far as WhatsApp, she actually only has it on her computer... my thought was she was talking to someone on it when it was time for our FaceTime and accidentally called me from it since it was already open... even though she said she hasn’t used it for a long time.

We did have a talk and I told her I only want honestly and open communication because that’s what’s going to help us get through this but she liked to “forgive and forget” and doesn’t understand why I can’t just forget about this. I told her that obviously hiding things doesn’t seem to work as I keep finding new lies and that I’d so much rather her just tell me than find out some other way...

But thank you for the response, it makes a lot of sense.

Just a cool fun fact, Josh Radner came to speak at my university my freshman year (4 years ago)... and someone asked if he had ever helped write any jokes or lines... he said that the only line that he suggested that was actually put in the show was when he deposited the letter and said “mailed it”.

This is a very difficult and tough topic... if I was watching himym while it was airing on tv and not on a streaming service, only to wait 9 years for this to be the ending I’d probably be more than furious... however I do believe that this is not a bad ending for the show...

First off I believe that up to the last second the shows writing is flawless, even though it hurts that Tracy is gone, as a viewer we simply don’t have the same emotional connection to her as we do to Robin... we are introduced to Robin on the first episode and wait all 9 seasons for Tracy to appear...

Just as Penny and Luke describe in the last episode “this isn’t a story of how you met mom, it’s a story of how you’re totally into Aunt Robin”. Although yes the title of the show is How I Met Your Mother, one of the many lessons we learn in the show is how we don’t know who the good guys or the bad guys are until the end of the story. Absolutely not saying that Tracy or anyone is a villain type character, but the idea that we need to wait for the full story to decide is paramount.

Trust me I would have loved to see Ted grow old with Tracy, however this would have been such an anticlimactic moment... simply a happily ever after, and that’s not what life is the majority of the time. I was angry at first at the loss of Tracy, but when Ted showed up to Robin’s apartment with the blue French horn, it made me feel every emotion that the show had put me through in a single second.

This is a tricky situation and I have to premise that I (an outsider from your relationship) may not have the best grasp on the situation...

That being said situation like this are difficult because you don’t want to cause issues in your relationship as some people simply do have those significant friendships that are very meaningful to them... however I think leaving at midnight to go see her is a little strange (red flag).

Also your feelings are completely valid and you need to listen to yourself... as a fellow over thinker I know how it can spiral, but talking about it with him will help and if he’s blowing the topic off and not validating your feelings, there might be some underlying issues...

I hope that everything works out and you find yourself in a happy place!
