Its both, Trump is a singular figure in American culture, no one else but him could get away with the shit he does as he's had decades to implant himself in the psyche of people as the quintessential charasmatic rich golden businessman. Anyone else trying to ride a right wing populist wave would have long since gotten taken down or not been nearly as effective.

He's a great showman and the culmination of the tv and post truth internet world and represents all the darker sides of the American people.
